Celebrating Black History Month at MVMS
Throughout the month of February, we celebrated Black History Month. Our Social Studies department is spearheaded a school-wide initiative – Black History Month door decorating. In flex classes, students are enthusiastically planed, designed, and decorated classroom doors to highlight the 2024 theme, "African Americans and the Arts." I'm excited about the opportunity to showcase what our students have learned through their creative displays.
The results are in! Congrats to Mrs. Chenevey's and Mrs. Sadoff's classes on being selected as the winners of this year's contest! Check out their doors below!
Thank you to all the students and staff that participated in this event. A special thank you to the Social Studies Department for taking the lead on this awesome initiative!

Good Luck at State MVMS Robotics Team!
The Mount Vernon Middle School Robotics Team is headed to the Vex State Championship in Marion, today March 8th! We are proud of your accomplishments and we are cheering you on!
The Academic Showcase is Next Week
The Academic Showcase is on March 14th from 5-7 PM. The Academic Showcase is an open house event and you are able to come at any time between 5-7 PM. It is recommended that you plan to be here for at least 30 minutes so that you are able to get the full experience.
We are encouraging parents, students, and community members to visit all the exhibits throughout the school and not just those that are connected to your student. For that reason, we are hosting a scavenger hunt that will have those who wish to participate visiting each exhibit to find highlighted artifacts of student learning and activities.
Below are the confirmed community partners that will be here that evening:
- BHP/Care Now Clinic
- Freedom Center
- New Directions
- Knox Public Health
- NYAP
- The Salvation Army
- MTVarts
- Triple P Parent Support Initiative
- Nationwide Children's Hospital
- Knox Substance Abuse Action Team
We have the unique opportunity to host a Hidden in Plain Site exhibit that is being put on by the Knox Substance Abuse Team. This interactive experience allows you to explore an exhibit resembling a teenager's bedroom with more than 100 items that are potential indicators of dangerous or risky behaviors. Topics covered will be substance abuse, suicide, unhealthy relationships, and more. Their official flyer for the even is below.
Current 6th and 7th grade Student Unified Arts Preference Sign Ups
Parents of current 6th and 7th graders, scheduling for next school year is upon us! Your student(s) will be receiving a google form the week of March 11th to express their preference for Unified Arts classes for the 2024-25 school year. Each class has a short description explaining the course. Please take the time to discuss these options with your student(s) prior to the March 31st deadline.
After School Homework Help
MVMS offers after school homework help from 2:40 - 4:00 on most Tuesday and Thursdays. While we call it homework help, students are able to bring any work or assignment that they need support on from their classes and there are teachers available to offer support. The full schedule of dates the homework help is offered is below. For those that need transportation home from homework help, there is a bus that takes students to the Learning Center, East, Pleasant Street, Dan Emmett, and Columbia.
