MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Lindblom families and community,
As a proud Chicagoan, I carry deep pride in knowing that the legacy of Black History Month was born right here in our city. One hundred years ago, Dr. Carter G. Woodson stood inside the Wabash YMCA in Bronzeville and established Negro History Week, planting a seed that would grow into a global affirmation of Black excellence and generations of creative brilliance stemming from Black Chicagoans. Muddy Waters gave voice to the Great Migration through electric blues. Earth, Wind & Fire fused lyrical wisdom with visionary sound. Contemporary artists, like Chance the Rapper and Jamila Woods, continue to honor heritage while building community. Through the powerful imagery of Hebru Brantley and the enduring rhythms of Chicago soul, I hope our students see themselves reflected in a lineage of innovation, resilience, and cultural influence.
Mr. Grijalva built an advisory experience to honor the long history of cross-racial solidarity that has strengthened our city and to inspire that same sense of unity within Lindblom Math & Science Academy. The lesson culminated in a simple but powerful collective action: the creation of our Solidarity Art Installation. The installation is beautiful in form and in meaning. Each raised fist was created by our students and staff during advisory on our colloquium day, representing shared commitment, collective responsibility, and unwavering belief in one another. Together, these individual contributions form a visual testament to our community’s strength, empathy, and resolve. It stands as a daily reminder that solidarity is not abstract; it is something we build, nurture, and live together… it’s part of our shared history.
Together we rise in cultural appreciation,
Principal Banks
~Swoop, swoop!
P.S. This weekend, a cohort of our students attended DePaul University’s Lunar New Year Gala; cultural celebration, stepped into a university space and experienced Chinese culture through live music, lion dance, martial arts, and community engagement, all in a college setting! For some, this was their first time in a collegiate setting. Students in attendance: Ajani Liddell (SW26P) Jason Diffay (SW26P), Ricardo Pluma (SW29P) Shaundria McLaurin (SW26P) Lyric Brazell (SW29P).
The results from our Spring RCPU survey are reflected below. This is a new approach based on staff and parent feedback. It is important that we all do our part to implement the approach with fidelity. Parents, when the appointment links become available, we ask that you review JumpRope prior to booking the appointment so you can identify the specific Performance Indicator or assignment you would like to discuss more in depth.
