HAPPY, DEAF AWARENESS MONTH & HISPANIC HERITAGE, MONTH!
Principal Pyles' Message...
As we step into October, I want to take a moment to reflect on and celebrate National Deaf Awareness Month, which took place throughout September.
At our school, we are exceptionally proud to support and service our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community. Our DHH students, staff, and family members bring immense strength, perspective, and richness to our school culture. Celebrating Deaf Awareness Month is not just an annual tradition for us—it is an ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and supportive educational environment where every student can thrive.
Throughout September, our community engaged in learning more about Deaf culture, the history of Sign Language, and the importance of accessibility in everyday life. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our specialized educators, interpreters, and support staff who work tirelessly every day to ensure our DHH students have full access to academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Although September has come to an end, our dedication to accessibility, inclusion, and representation continues year-round. We encourage all students and families to keep learning, staying engaged, and championing inclusivity both inside and outside our classrooms.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making our school a welcoming home for every learner.
Let the month be a catalyst for ongoing awareness and action. Together, we can build a community where every voice—whether spoken or signed—is an integral part of our school's story.October is Hispanic Heritage Month!
This month, from September 15th to October 15th, we are proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.
This special month is a dedicated time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. From groundbreaking achievements in science, art, and public service to the everyday vibrant traditions shared within our own classrooms, the impact of the Hispanic community is deeply woven into the fabric of our nation—and right here in our school.
Throughout this month, our students and staff are engaging in various activities, cultural spotlights, and educational events designed to highlight Hispanic heritage, history, and literature. Diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month gives us a wonderful opportunity to foster cultural pride, encourage meaningful conversations, and deepen our mutual understanding and respect.
We encourage families to engage in these conversations at home, share stories, and participate in local community events. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our school a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every student.

COLLEGE FAIR...
A massive thank you to the main office, security, and building services staff members. This was by far our largest fair- a massive undertaking. From parking reps, to signing them in directly after a fire alarm, and making sure the gym was nice and set up- we could not have put on this event without you! Thank you!
Thank you to all the staff who came to assist with the fair throughout the morning as well. It was a joy to see you helping students engage with colleges. I heard from so many of the reps and staff members that the change we made around the schedule were amazing and they appreciate meeting with all grade levels. That the students were very inquisitive.
Planning the fair begins in the summer. With the changes we made this year we were able to bring in 60 colleges from across the country and internationally and trade schools and military. I am very grateful for all the support shown in making sure our study body was able to partake in this event!!!

Students who enroll in an AP or IB course and register for the corresponding exam will not be required to pay the exam fee. This reflects MCPS's continued commitment to expanding access to rigorous academic opportunities and supporting student success.
Now that MCPS will cover AP and IB exam fees, some students may be interested in taking an AP or IB course. Students and families who would like to discuss their academic options are encouraged to contact their school counselor. We encourage students to enroll in challenging coursework that aligns with their interests, strengths, and future goals.
We will share additional information about exam registration procedures and timelines as it becomes available.
If you have questions, please contact your school
The new RHS IB website is still under construction, but there is lots of great information from What is an IB education to valuable tips for applying to college as an IB candidate to the May 2026 Testing schedule. https://msbangexample.my.canva.site/welcome-to-rockville-s
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Registration for International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations is now officially open. Rockville High School strongly encourages all students enrolled in IB courses to sit for the corresponding examinations.
Completing the examination is an essential component of the IB curriculum. Academic research consistently demonstrates that participation in IB examinations correlates with enhanced secondary student engagement, increased post-secondary admission rates, and superior collegiate readiness.
Similar to Advanced Placement (AP) examinations, students may qualify for post-secondary academic credit depending upon their examination results and the specific credit transfer policies of the receiving institution. Because each institution maintains distinct credit evaluation standards, please consult the IB College Recognition database for detailed institutional guidelines.
All eligible students currently enrolled in an IB course will be registered for the May 2027 examination session. Please be advised that students who do not submit a completed Internal Assessment (IA) suitable for IB submission by Friday, January 8th, will be deregistered from their respective examination. Should a student wish to opt out of an examination, formal notice must be provided to Ms. Ezerski in Room 3015.
If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me at Natasha_L_Ezerski@mcpsmd.org. I anticipate a productive academic year working alongside your students.
Sincerely,
Natasha Ezerski
IB Coordinator

Get Involved: Closure & Consolidation Engagement Meetings Begin in October
MCPS will hold engagement meetings across the county this fall for upcoming school closures and consolidations. No decisions have been made, and community input is an important part of the process before developing any recommendation. With multiple in-person and virtual meetings offered in two rounds, families can choose the location and time that works best for them. You do not need to attend every meeting, as sessions within each round will cover the same information. Interpretation and language support will be available. We encourage families, staff, students and community members to participate and make their voices heard.
What to Expect at the Engagement Sessions
Each in-person session will give participants multiple ways to learn, ask questions and share feedback, including:
A brief opening presentation will explain the work ahead and what participants need to know.
Multiple information stations focused on key topics and criteria.
Content experts will be available to answer questions and discuss the information in greater detail.
Multilingual staff will be available to help participants access the same information and opportunities to engage.
Participants will be able to ask questions, offer feedback and help inform the work ahead.
To learn more about this work, be sure to watch the Oct. 8 Board of Education meeting, when staff will provide a detailed update on the closures and consolidations study, the process and the upcoming community engagement.

Visitor Parking
Visitors must park in the marked spots that are reserved for visitors in the first row of the front parking lot.
Upon checking in in the main office, drivers must provide car information on the sign-in sheet to identify that vehicle as a valid visitor.

The PSAT and SAT assessments are used to measure students' College and Career Readiness, as well as qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT will remain free to all Grade 11 students [first-time Grade 9 School Year 2024–2025]. The PSAT will be taken digitally (not with paper/pencil format).
Every Grade 11 student must participate, except for non-diploma-bound students and students in English Language Development (ELD) Levels 1 and 2.
Students participating in the PSAT have the opportunity to complete an optional Student Survey with parental content. The form is due to Mr. Hankerson by Friday October 2. Students will receive a copy of the consent form from their History Teacher and may return the completed form to their teacher.

SAFETY IN BATHROOMS...
At Rockville High School, our bathrooms are shared spaces that should be safe, clean, and respectful for everyone. We are asking all students to follow our RHS Bathroom Guidelines every time they use the restroom.
Students are expected to:
Enter, use the restroom, and return to class promptly—no gathering or spending more than five minutes in the bathroom.
Keep restroom stalls for individual use—only one person in a stall at a time.
Keep food and drinks out of the bathroom.
Keep cell phones put away—no TikTok, dancing, or performances.
Leave hot irons, curling irons, and other heat-producing devices at home.
Maintain a safe and respectful environment—no fighting, vaping, smoking, drugs, or strong/non-controlled substances.
Treat the facilities and one another with respect.
These expectations are about more than rules—they help us maintain a school environment where safety, dignity, cleanliness, and respect are priorities. When students use the bathrooms appropriately and responsibly, everyone benefits from a safer and more welcoming school community.
STUDENT ID's...
During the first week of school, students sat for their yearbook pictures and received their printed, RHS Student IDs and lanyards. All students and staff are required to wear their RHS IDs on lanyards when on school property, so that IDs are visible.
As a reminder, all visitors to RHS must check into the main office with a government-issued ID and will be given a visitor sticker to wear visibly while in the building for scheduled visits.
STUDENT SCHEDULES...
Student schedules for the first semester have been finalized. As we enter the fifth week of school, students should take time to check in with their teachers for any additional support. Students should also take the opportunity to seek him through our Homework Club after school Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school.

Class of 2027!...
ROCKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL PARENT ORGANIZATIONS...
BOOSTER CLUB INFORMATION...
WE BOOST. WE RISE. WE ROCKVILLE.
The 2026–2027 school year is off to an exciting start, and the Rockville High School Booster Club is building tremendous momentum! Thanks to the support of RHS families, teachers, students, volunteers, alumni, and community partners, we are continuing to invest in programs, facilities, school spirit, and experiences that benefit all of Rockville High School.
📈 176 Members Strong — and Growing!
We are thrilled to share that the Booster Club has already grown to 176 members this school year!
⭐ 142 Century Club Members ($100)
🧡 7 $50 Members
🐏 8 $25 Members
🍎 19 Teacher Members ($20)
TOTAL: 176 MEMBERS
The growth has been remarkable. Our Century Club has increased from 107 members last year to 142 today — nearly 33% growth. Teacher participation has grown from just 3 teachers last year to 19 this year! At our September meeting, we were celebrating 131 Century Club members; we've added another 11 in just a few weeks.
Help Us Reach 250 for America's 250th!
Our big membership challenge this year is “250 for America's 250th” — our goal to reach 250 Century Club members during America's 250th anniversary year.
We're now at 142 — nearly 57% of the way there! That means we need 108 more families, alumni, staff, and community members to step up and help us reach this historic goal.
👉 JOIN THE RHS BOOSTER CLUB:

Every membership strengthens our ability to put resources directly back into RHS.
🙌 We Need You — Become a Booster Volunteer!
Growing our membership is important, but growing our volunteer team is just as important.
You don't have to have a student-athlete to volunteer, and volunteering doesn't have to mean making a major time commitment.
We need parents and guardians willing to help with concessions, special events, fundraising, merchandise, community outreach, communications, planning, and plenty of behind-the-scenes projects.
That's why we've created an Adult Volunteer Interest Form. Filling it out doesn't commit you to a particular event or schedule. It simply tells us how you might like to help so we can connect you with opportunities that fit your interests and availability.
👉 TELL US HOW YOU'D LIKE TO HELP:
Complete the RHS Booster Club Adult Volunteer Interest Form
Whether you can give us an entire Saturday, a couple of hours, one snack-bar shift, or your professional skills behind the scenes, there is a place for you.
🏫 A Busy Start to the School Year
We've hit the ground running!
During the opening weeks of school, Booster Club volunteers helped support Rockville Day, Back to School Night, Meet the Coaches, the Pre-Service Week Luncheon, and Transition Day — activities that welcomed and supported students, families, teachers, and staff across RHS.
We've also continued investing in the RHS environment and school pride through new PE hallway wall coverings and banners, stadium branding, Senior recognition, Coaches Day recognition, Rockville Athletics tablecloths, Sports Medicine branding, and additional campus spirit enhancements.
These projects build on last year's significant investments in facilities, equipment, programs, student recognition, and school-wide experiences. Our goal is simple: raise money, build community, and put those resources back to work for RHS students.
🏟️ Investing in the Future of RHS Athletics
We're also continuing to partner with RHS Athletics on improvements that will benefit Rams for years to come.
The RHS Athletics Capital Campaign has a $25,000 fundraising goal to help support major facility improvements, including a new stadium scoreboard and press box improvements. At our September meeting, the campaign had already reached $12,725, including a $5,000 contribution from the Booster Club.
Significant work has also been underway to improve the Upper Field through its Bermuda grass conversion, another investment in the long-term quality of RHS athletic facilities.
🧡 Supporting More Than Athletics
While "Booster Club" is often associated with sports, our mission is much broader.
The RHS Booster Club exists to support athletics, academics, extracurricular activities, clubs, school spirit, facilities, and experiences that strengthen the entire Rockville community. Our mission specifically calls on us to support school-sponsored teams, clubs, and organizations while promoting academic and athletic success and a sense of community.
Last year, that philosophy resulted in support for student recognition, the Autism Program, Debate, Transition Day, Noche Latina, school-wide events, athletic programs, facility improvements, and much more.
If there is a need or an idea that could improve the RHS student experience, we want to hear about it.
🍂 What's Ahead? We're Just Getting Started!
There is plenty more coming this school year.
October brings Officials Appreciation Week, National Coaches Appreciation Day, the RHS 8th Grade Showcase, and Noche Latina, followed by our Holiday Wreath & Poinsettia Sale.
And we're already preparing for some of our biggest events of 2027:
🎸 Ram Jam — February 20, 2027
🌱 Mulch-a-RAMa — April 10, 2027
🏆 Varsity Athletic Banquet — May 20, 2027
⛳ Inaugural Ram Legacy Classic Golf Outing — June 1, 2027 at Montgomery Country Club
Each of these events will create opportunities to participate, volunteer, sponsor, and strengthen our RHS community.
🐏 There's a Place for You in the Booster Club
The success of the Booster Club doesn't come from a handful of people. It comes from a community willing to pitch in.
If you're already a member or volunteer, thank you. If you've been thinking about getting involved, now is a great time to join us.

108 more to reach 250.
Let's keep building. Let's keep showing up. Let's keep making RHS better for every Ram.
WE BOOST. WE RISE. WE ROCKVILLE. 🧡🖤🐏
FRIENDS OF ROCKVILLE INFORMATION...
FORM's annual Flocking fundraiser is half over — and we desperately need your help!
Flocking is a fundraiser that supports the RHS Music & Theatre Departments — and a great way to bring fun to the whole neighborhood! Rockville families can order a Flock of 10 orange and black flamingos to land in your yard or friend's yard in the neighborhood. Our amazing volunteers place the birds in your yard. After a few days the birds fly off to the next yard with those amazing volunteers! You sit back and enjoy the birds while they are in your yard - no need to do anything! It's a flocking good time!
Flocks are $25 and can only be ordered at www.friendsofrockvillemusic.org.
We are truly grateful to all those who have ordered & helped spread the word, but there's still some work to be done so that we can fully support the students in the RHS Music & Theatre Programs.
There are 30 ordering days left & we need 52 more Flock ordered to meet our fundraising goal.
Here's how you can help:
Spread the word. Share this link (click it, then copy & paste) on social media, email it to friends & family, and share it with your middle school and elementary school newsletters & groups.
Order your first Flock at this link if you haven't already.
Order another Flock — we don't have a limit. ;)
Remember that anyone in the world can order a Flock. Friends and relatives who live elsewhere can bring some fun to your doorstep for just a few dollars. Not too shabby.
Flocking is a big deal for FORM because 100% of the proceeds go directly to our efforts to support the Music & Theatre Programs at Rockville High School. That massively beats what we get from popcorn sales, restaurant nights, our merch store, etc.
Thank you for helping support our students!

REQUIRED STUDENT EXPECTATIONS LESSONS IN CANVAS...

Rockville High School welcomes our families and volunteers! We love for you to visit with us.
We want our school to be as accessible to our families and community as possible, while balancing the safety of all students. Montgomery County Public Schools requires all visitors and volunteers to sign in in the main office using the Visitor Management System (VMS). A driver's license, MCPS ID, or state-issued photo ID are required. You will receive a visitor badge at this time, please wear it while you are on school grounds.
All volunteers who regularly support schools and school sponsored activities must complete the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training for volunteers and contractors. This training requirement also applies to student teachers and interns, volunteers who regularly help with school dismissal or recess, and those who attend field trips and chaperone outdoor education. The online training is provided in English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean, Amharic, and Vietnamese. Volunteers are required to complete the training every three years beginning after the 2017 school year.
You can access and complete this training via your parent portal account. If you need assistance with your parent portal account, please contact Ms. Tina Tomblin, Counseling Secretary.

YEARBOOK WORKSHOP...
The Yearbook Committee held a Photography Workshop with Capital Photography Center: https://capitalphotographycenter.com/ on Friday, September 18th. Aaron Clamage and Marie Joabar came to work with our yearbook staff on how to take great portraits.
SUMMARY...
As the crisp October air sets in, our classrooms are filled with focus, determination, and the steady momentum of learning.
This Friday marks our interim report date—a crucial milestone as our students navigate the second half of the 1st quarter. Our staff and students are working hard to finish the first half of the term strong and build momentum for the weeks ahead.
To our families: your active presence makes a world of difference. We encourage you to check in with your child about their interim progress, review assignments together, and reach out to teachers whenever needed. Strong, ongoing collaboration between home and school is essential to ensuring every student stays on track toward our shared ultimate goal: seeing each graduate walk across the stage.
Thank you for your continued partnership, energy, and unwavering support of our school community.
