Willow Students Step Into the School Year with New Vans! πππ
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, several Willow Elementary School students participated in a special Vans shoe giveaway, where each student had the exciting opportunity to select a new pair of shoes of their choice. Seeing the smiles and excitement on our studentsβ faces made the event especially meaningful.
This wonderful experience was made possible through the generosity and partnership of the San Diego Police Departmentβs Gang Intervention Unit (GIU) and Community Youth Services (CYS), Panera, and the Vans Store at Mission Valley. Their commitment to giving back and creating positive experiences for our students is greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to Officer Jesus Estrada and the SDPD team for their continued partnership with Willow Elementary, as well as to Principal Melissa Cerda, Outreach Consultant Darlene Herbert, and Special Programs Liaison Cristina Inzunza for their coordination and commitment in making this experience possible for our students. This event was a wonderful example of what can happen when our schools and community partners come together for our children.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this special day possible for our Willow Roadrunners! πππ
π©βπ«π¨βπ«π€π Principals Engage in Collaborative Professional Learning π‘β¨
San Ysidro School District principals participated in collaborative professional learning focused on strengthening Tier 1 instruction through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and whole-child lens. In partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), principals connected and aligned prior professional learning while deepening their understanding of research-based literacy, language development, and instructional practices designed to promote academic achievement, student belonging, and overall well-being.
The professional learning session provided principals with meaningful opportunities to reflect on current practices, collaborate with colleagues, and identify shared leadership actions to support the effective implementation of high-quality instruction across classrooms throughout the school year. The collaborative approach reinforced the importance of strong instructional leadership and a shared commitment to meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student.
The District extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Rodriguez, Coordinator of Federal & State Programs and Language Acquisition, and Mrs. Sandra Cephas, Coordinator of Multilingual Education & Global Achievement, San Diego County Office of Education, for their leadership, expertise, and commitment to providing an excellent professional learning experience for our principals.
