Celebrating Juneteenth | MASA Member Toolkit!
In the 2023 legislative session, Governor Tim Walz signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as an official Minnesota state holiday. Celebrated annually on June 19, this holiday marks the anniversary of the first public reading of the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved people in the United States in 1865. This important holiday commemorates this important historic event and honors the important contributions of African Americans to Minnesota’s communities, culture, and economy. To help you and your district celebrate Juneteenth, MASA has developed a communication toolkit with information and resources, including staff and family messages, social media, and other related items.

K-12 Safety and Security Communications
With summer quickly approaching, many schools spend time re-evaluating their safety and security procedures. Having a plan for what to do during a crisis and how to reunite students with their families is critical. Captivate Media + Consulting is one of our business partners that has worked with many schools to help communicate their safety protocols. Using video to explain your district's safety plans will help to build trust with your community and also can serve as a training tool for new and/or current employees. They have custom options like this reunification video for parents. They also have an animated customizable templated option to explain actions within the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Contact Jake Sturgis (jake@captivatemedia.us) if you would like more information.
