From the Principal From the Principal

Happy Friday and Happy May, TC Community,

What a happy evening we had at our annual WOW Art Show! I want to give a huge shout out to each of our artists who shared their creativity and talents with us—you continue to impress me with your imagination and expression. I love that the 2-D artwork will continue to brighten our hallways in the weeks ahead, our school looks so colorful!

A heartfelt thank you to Kerri and Piper for the way you create space for students to explore, take risks, and build confidence in their artistic identities. We are truly fortunate to have such a strong and vibrant art program at Thornton Creek.

And finally, thank you to TCPG, the WOW Art Show planning committee, and the many volunteers who made the evening possible. These events take a tremendous amount of coordination, collaboration, and care—and we are so grateful for all that you do. To our broader community, thank you for showing up, celebrating our students, and supporting our fundraising efforts. We are lucky to be in community with you all.

Wishing you all a restful and sunny weekend.

Brandee

From Kristen in the Library | All books due no later than Friday, June 12th.

The end of the year is so near! That means library services are shutting down in a few weeks, so here’s your heads up! Final library classes and student book checkouts are on May 29. All books should be returned no later than Friday, June 12 -- but earlier is super helpful! Thank you.

Thornton Creek Home and Hygiene Drive | Today - May 15

Hello Dragonfly Families! Thornton Creek’s Community Pantry helps supply our families with food staples, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials every day of the school year. Currently our pantry is in dire need of home and hygiene products that are less frequently available at food banks, such as laundry detergent, paper towels, toothbrushes, and soap. While the pantry is always open for these donations during school hours throughout the year, we are holding a Home & Hygiene Essentials Drive to raise awareness of our community’s needs. Donations can be dropped off at the front office Today – May 15. Thank you for your support!

Chess Tournament

The Thornton Creek Chess Team competed at the 2026 Washington State Elementary Championship this past weekend and did very well! As a team, Thornton Creek placed 11th in the Premier section out of 246 teams—an incredible accomplishment. We are especially proud to share that Thornton Creek had four state champions (trophy winners), and one of our students finished the tournament undefeated!

Student results:

  • Vidur Jariwala — 5 points, 2nd place out of 179 fifth graders
  • Alice Kolodeznaia — 3.5 points, 39th place out of 195 fourth graders
  • Viyan Kakkad — 3 points, 27th place out of 90 first graders
  • William Allyn — 3 points, 59th place out of 195 fourth graders
  • Roger Yao — 1 point, 76th place among all third graders in Washington

We are so proud of all of our students for their focus, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the weekend. ♟️👏
