New Brighton Area Schools Website
Please see the message below from Dr. Outlaw regarding the launch of the district's new website:
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of the brand-new, improved Brighton Area Schools website! This project represents six months of dedicated work, including thousands of hours spent building approximately 300 pages to better serve our students, families, and staff.
To finalize the move to our new platform, the website will experience scheduled downtime this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During this window:
The main website will be temporarily unavailable.
Access to specific school web pages and hosted resources will also be affected.
Other core school systems (such as email or ParentConnect) should remain functional.
While we have meticulously reviewed every page, a transition of this scale may initially experience a few "glitches." We appreciate your patience as we settle into our new home. If you encounter any issues, please let us know by using the ‘Report an Issue’ link located in the bottom footer of the site.
This achievement would not have been possible without the efforts of Brady Butcher. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Brady for his technical expertise and the thousands of hours he contributed to building this modern resource for our community.
We can’t wait for you to explore the new site!
Grade Availability Information
This information has been shared previously, but 1st Semester Report Cards will be made available in ParentConnect by the end of the day on Monday, February 2nd.
Additional reminders include:
- Report cards with show 3 grades from the 1st Semester. These grades will include a 2nd Quarter Grade, an Exam Grade (Average of the 1st and 2nd Quarter Exam Grades), and a 1st Semester Grade (the grade that impacts GPA and will be posted to a student's transcript).
- Semester grades are based on the following calculation: 40% 1st Quarter Grade, 40% 2nd Quarter Grade, and 20% Average of the 1st and 2nd Quarter Exam grades).
2nd Semester Schedule Changes
Schedule change requests via the Counseling Office and the designated QR code needed to be submitted by the end of last week. In extreme circumstances, additional schedule changes will be considered, but would require administrative approval.
- Requests will be reviewed in the order they are received
- Certain types of requests will not be honored (i.e. lunch change requests)
Important Message for Students in AP Microeconomics Next Semester
Attention AP Microeconomics Students
For those students who are taking AP Microeconomics this semester, you need to take a few steps if you are interested in taking the AP exams in May for an opportunity to earn college credit:
1. Register for the class in AP Classroom. Mr. Moore, the AP Micro teacher, has the code for you to register for the correct AP Micro class period. This step should be completed regardless of your decision to test in May or not. Deadline for this to happen is February 6th.
2. Decide by February 27th if you want to take the AP exam in May or not. Your exam decision must be entered into AP Classroom by February 27th.
3. Finally, if you are going to test, you must pay for your exam in Parent Connect by February 27th. Each AP exam is $100. **If you paid for your AP Micro exam in the fall, please disregard this last step. We have a record of your payment. If you need verification or have questions regarding payments, please contact Jennifer Napuli, Class of 2028 Principal, at napulij@brightonk12.com.
If any family is experiencing financial difficulties, please reach out to Jennifer Napuli so she can advise you of next steps.

2026-27 Scheduling Information
Student Scheduling Information - January 5th through February 28th
As a reminder, counselors began their one on one scheduling meetings with current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders starting on Monday, January 5th. They will be pulling students to meet with them from their English classes and will send them back as soon as they are able to minimize missed class time. The goal is that all students in grades 9 through 11 will be met with by the end of February, with the beginning of March being used to connect with students who were absent during their designated time. Changes can still be made after that point in time, but we want to have an idea of the classes our students are interested in as early as possible so that we can plan accordingly.
Application Course Information
As a reminder, there are certain courses that students have to apply for as opposed to just being able to sign up for them. Students were able to still put them down on their courses selection sheets, but need to fill out the application and be selected in order to be able to formally enroll in the class. These application are available in the Counseling Office and include the following classes:
- Work Based Learning (Co-Op)
- Media Publications (Yearbook and Newspaper)
- Advanced Marketing (School Store)
- Video Production
- LINK
- Education Careers
- Peer to Peer
- Out of District CTE Classes
- Dual Enrollment Classes
- DEEP Program
- Leadership (Application NOT in Counseling)
Out of District CTE Classes
If your student is interested in taking a CTE course offered at another school next year, they should have put the information on their course selection sheet, but also need to fill out an additional application. The application can be found here. Upon completion, the application can be turned in to the Counseling Office.
The locations for each program can be found on the application. As a reminder, these programs are self-transport, so students will need to be able to find their own way to and from these programs in order to be able to enroll in these courses.
New Out of District CTE Offerings
LESA is offering two new CTE programs to our students that have been recently approved. One is offered in Howell and the other in Pinckney. Interested students should complete the following Google Form. They will only be able to access the form when signed in to their school Google account. Information on these courses is provided below:
- Law Enforcement - Offered in the morning at the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Course description is linked.
- Auto Body Collision and Restoration - Offered in the afternoon at Pinckney High School. Course description is linked. Fridays will be remote for I-CAR certification work.

Upcoming Kindness and Respect Month
February is BHS KINDNESS AND RESPECT MONTH! While kindness is something we always strive to incorporate into our daily lives here at BHS, this February, we’re taking it to the next level by focusing our attention and intention on leading with kindness! We think this is something that all of our students and staff can rally behind and can have a positive impact on our overall BHS community.
We’re inviting all groups, clubs, teams, councils, boards, and student organizations to join us in spreading kindness throughout our school and community. Let’s show how small acts of kindness can create BIG, positive impacts! You don't have to be a coach or club sponsor to promote and show kindness and respect, but if you are, below is additional information about how you and your group(s) can get involved in a larger fashion.
How can your group contribute?
We’re looking for creative and meaningful ways to promote kindness. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Create videos for the morning announcements.
- Design eye-catching kindness posters.
- Start a “Random Acts of Kindness” campaign.
- Encourage students to sit with someone new at lunch.
- Brainstorm any other unique ways your group can spread kindness!
What we’re NOT looking for:
This isn’t about fundraisers. Instead, focus on team-oriented projects and initiatives that promote a wholehearted community of kindness.
When you’re ready:
Once your group has a plan, send it to Mr. Grabowski at grabown@brightonk12.com. Have questions or need help brainstorming? Feel free to reach out to Mr. Evans, Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Napuli, or Mr. Grabowski—we’re here to help!
Let’s make February unforgettable by leading with kindness in everything we do. Together, we can make a difference at BHS! Thank you for spreading kindness and respect for everyone!

Project Unified Assembly Game Goodie Bags - Donations Needed
For Kindness Month, our BHS students will be filling goodie bags and making posters for the Project Unified Assembly game. We have created a wishlist link. Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
Unified Assembly Game - Friday, February 20th
Every other year, we are fortunate enough to be able to hold a school-wide assembly to celebrate our Brighton Unified Basketball Team with a game against a neighboring school. It is a fantastic experience for all of our athletes and partners from both schools and our staff and student body always do an exceptional job supporting all participants. This year, we will be hosting the game on Friday, February 20th against Hartland. This will be a perfect additional to Kindness and Respect Month and a great way to cap off our Winterfest Week. A formal schedule will be coming as it gets closer.
Upcoming Polar Plunge 2026
If you are involved in leading a Brighton High School club or athletic team, please see the message below from our Brighton High School Unified Sports Program about an upcoming Polar Plunge Opportunity:
Attention All Brighton High Sports Teams and Clubs
Is your team or club looking for a fun way to come together while supporting a great cause? Consider joining forces with Brighton High School’s Unified Program as we take on Hartland High School in a friendly fundraising showdown! The challenge: raise money—and then take the plunge by jumping into a frozen pool in the middle of winter. It’s a memorable experience for an incredible cause!
Polar Plunge Purpose:
To compete with/against Hartland High School to see which school, along with their sports teams and clubs, can raise the most money for Special Olympics and Unified Champion Schools. All students and staff who raise money can participate in the Plunge on March 10th. There will be incentives for the teams, clubs, and school that raise the most money. Our goal as a school is $10,000, but let’s BEAT Hartland in donations and then come together for an awesome PLUNGE!!
What we need from you:
If your team or club would like to battle Hartland in raising donations for a great cause, all while competing for fun prizes and taking the plunge, then please fill out this form no later than Thursday, February 5th. Individuals are free to join our team as well.
Please know that Special Olympics and Brighton/Hartland Unified will take care of everything; all you will have to do is have fun and spread the word!
Let’s make this a fun, whole-school event for a great cause!

That day, the presentation will primarily take place during Advisory, however, it is a 75 minute presentation. Therefore, all 10th grade students will need to be dismissed during their second hour at 8:50 am that day in order for us to start promptly at 9 am.

Tutoring Options at BHS
National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.
In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.
The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.
Career Chats (Previously Lunch N Learns)
With moving Advisory out of lunches, we changed the name, but the idea for Lunch N Learns is back, just with a new name! We will be hosting Career Chats this year during Advisory and could use your help. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in connecting our students with more information on potential career opportunities, we would love it if you could review the information below or share the following information with anyone who may be interested!
Brighton High School is looking for community partners!
We are seeking volunteer presenters to share their careers and experiences with students during our 2025-26 Career Pathways Presentations. Our "Career Chats", previously known as Lunch N Learns, are a great opportunity to inspire the next generation and help students explore future career options.
When: During Advisory on Wednesdays from 9:18-10:16 am (dates vary)
Where: Brighton High School
Who: Individuals from all career fields welcome!
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Tanya Clark at clarkt@brightonk12.com for more details.
Together, we can help students connect their education to real-world opportunities!

E’s and 7th Semester Grades
The first semester ends on Monday, 1/27. A few important reminders on this:
- These 7th semester grades determine placement on the Academic Wall of Fame, which is a display class for students who have achieved above a 4.0 GPA for the next school year
- These 7th semester grades determent invitation to the Suma Cum Laude Breakfast, which students must have a 3.8 or higher GPA. Students and families will receive invitation to join this celebration as we get closer to the event in the spring!
- These 7th semester grades determine the academic cord color for graduation: (gold is 3.8 or higher, silver is 3.5 to 3.79, blue is 3.3 to 3.49).
Under this same topic, mid year Common App reviews will be conducted once the grades are posted, as well.
Please do what you can to finish STRONG for this semester!!! If you need help, support, or anything else please reach out to Mr. G or Mr. Miner.

Donald P. Pobuda Memorial Scholarship Program
The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation would like to provide the following information on their Donald P. Pobuda Memorial Scholarship Program. Additional information as well as the application for the scholarship can be found here.
Don Pobuda was a founding member, board member and third President of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club in Brighton, Michigan. He inspired those with whom he came in contact to become better persons and always “think outside the box.”
If one’s life could be summarized into three words, for Don it would have been family, education and
community. Don was an advocate for youth and dedicated his professional life to education as a teacher, counselor, coach and superintendent. He touched the lives of thousands of young people during his 30 years of education.
Once retired, Don’s quest to help others continued. He served as Interim Superintendent in 6 different school districts in Michigan as well as Interim City Manager in the City of Brighton. Don served as President of his condo association, Chairman of the Genoa Township Planning Commission, as a SCORE counselor and on the St. Patrick Parrish Education Commission.
Don spent the final 3 years of his life living with leukemia. However, only very few close to Don even knew about his battle with this disease as Don continued his service to others as if there was nothing amiss. In fact, the most heard phrase at Don’s funeral was, “I didn’t even know Don was sick.” This was a tribute to the kind of man Don was to all who knew him: a man of integrity, kindness and loyalty, putting others needs ahead of his own.
We want to memorialize Don by awarding the scholarship to an individual who has overcome obstacles, physical or otherwise, to excel. The scholarship will be open to any senior graduating from a Livingston County High School and continuing on for post high school education, either academic or vocational.

high school seniors attending Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Public Schools and their surrounding counties high schools, who have relocated into or within Michigan sometime between grades 9 (after 8 th grade graduation) and 12.
A one-time award of $1,000 will be presented to a Michigan high school senior this year. (Eligibility is limited to seniors attending Michigan public high schools). The award will be sent directly to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc. The MiRC organization will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of their total application.
The student will be evaluated based on the following:
1.) Academic performance (as validated by transcripts from the counselor’s office),
2.) Extra-curricular activities (to be provided to us along with the application and essay), and
3.) The student’s essay addressing the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and
a new high school (please see greater details regarding the essay requirements below).
The application can be found here. All applications are due by March 2nd!
