Westward Expansion

7th grade history students have been learning about Westward Expansion. During the Oklahoma Land Run, the U.S government opened millions of acres of land to homesteaders. Thousands of settlers raced to claim plots of land on a first-come, first served basis. Students had the opportunity to participate in their own race to claim land. The land they claimed was all different, and they had to use what they have learned in class about the Great Plains to write about how they would adapt and develop the land as a settler.

The Global Read Aloud

Students in Ms. Kursey's Communications and Reading 7 classes are participating in the Global Read Aloud. They're partnering with classrooms in Canada and Utah to read and connect over the book, The Lions' Run, by Sara Pennypacker. They will also be penpals with a classroom in Manitoba.

October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month

October is a time dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging kindness, and preventing bullying in our school community.

Throughout the month, our school counselors will be conducting grade-level bullying prevention lessons with all students. These interactive sessions will focus on:

  • Recognizing what bullying is and how it differs from mistreatment
  • Empowering students to be active, supportive bystanders
  • Developing effective strategies for responding to and reporting bullying behavior
  • Building empathy, inclusion, and a safe learning environment for everyone

We encourage you to talk with your child at home about what they learn in these lessons. Together, we can foster a positive and welcoming school community where every student feels safe and valued.
