Principal'sUpdateSeptember 11, 2026

DEAR FAMILIES,

It is another beautiful week our shared land as we continue to journey together through the month of September. It has been a wonderful start to the new year and I have been very blessed in my time at Corpus Christi School as I meet and learn more about your children, our students.

A reminder that next week on Friday Sept 18th, all staff at Corpus Christi School staff will engage in Professional Development as we continue to provide the best possible learning environment for your children. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, September 18th for all students. Please be sure to check our school calendar on our website regularly for updates and to keep informed about the ongoings at the school and the Division.

Wishing you a fantastic week.

Ms. C Peacher

GRADE 6 POETRY GALLERY WALK

Grade 6a students have been working on learning more about poetry as well as how to positively support the work of classmates. During their Poetry Gallery Walk this week, students read the works of other students and commented on specific things they noticed about the work. Building positive interactions between students as they use a critical eye to enforce learning with their peers is a great way to show belonging and caring!

CELLPHONE USE AT SCHOOL

Cellphones and SMART Watches are not permitted to be used by students once they enter the school property and school building at any time during the school day. This mandate from Alberta Education also extends to any school sponsored activity such as field trips, athletic events and presentations.

If you wish to contact your child during the day for any emergent situation, please contact the office. If students wish to contact parents/guardians in the day, they will call from the office phone. Repeated use of cellphones will result in confiscation of the item until parents/guardians can come and pick it up from the office.

There are few situations where cellphones are permitted and these are only under the direction and supervision of the teacher/principal. We ask that you remind your children as well about this policy as we work to support this mandate together. If you have any questions, please contact the office to discuss.

CLASSROOM COMMITMENTS

Our students and their teachers have taken time to make commitments to each other and their classrooms as they started the school year. These student-written commitments are created and made with the words and work of the students, making them meaningful to them. These go so far to create safe and caring classrooms of belonging and support.

STUDENTS AND ILLNESS

As we enter a new school year and cooler weather, seasonal illness return. If you child is ill, please do not send them to school. While we know it may be an inconvenience, spreading illness through your child's class affects other families and staff as well. Please help us to keep all members of our school community healthy by keeping your child home if they are unwell.

GRADE 4B CARING FOR OTHERS

Our grade 4B students with Mr. Seidelmann have created a space for students to visit when they need a little extra care or they are able to give back. The "Open When You Need" center shares uplifting words of kindness, patience peace and other gifts of the Holy Spirit to show students how they can care for themselves and each other. A beautiful example of caring and belonging!

PICKING UP, DROPPING OFF AND PARKING

Thank you for your support in keeping all of our students and staff safe while dropping off and picking up your children. Some reminders:

We have an extremely busy school at the beginning and end of day. We ask all families to always choose safety over convenience. We have a pick up area along the sidewalk in the parking area that is not intended for long parking, only for short term at drop off or pickup. Additionally, short term stopping is also available in a row behind staff cars, but must not be used for longer parking. There is NO parking or stopping in the middle row as this must be kept moving for the safety of our students.

If you are entering this parking and pickup/dropoff zone, please be extremely careful about students who may be crossing to meet their family in a vehicle or crossing to walk out of the school property.

The staff parking lots are ONLY for staff parking and those who display a Disable Placard. Please do not enter the staff parking lot to the southeast of the school at any time.

There will be staff members outside daily to assist with parking and keeping students safe and we ask that you help us as we work to ensure the safety of all of our students.

IMPORTANCE OF BEING ON TIME

Your child's day is set up successfully when they arrive at school on time. They come in to their day with a fresh start, not feeling rushed or worried about missing anything. Walking into a classroom late is difficult for a child and does not give the best opportunity for a good day of learning. Our day begins at 8:40am and we ask that you have your children her on time to begin their day with their peers and teachers on time.

SELF PORTRAITS

Grade 5A students shared their creative side with their new classmates, introducing themselves through self- portraits. Meeting new classmates and beginning a new year is a great opportunity to express themselves through art and makes a beautiful display of students!
