A Message from the Principal

To KWHS families,

Can you believe we are 2 weeks away from summer? This week coming up is a big week for our seniors with graduation practice, the grad walk, senior picnic, and graduation. Underclassmen are preparing for their final exams, which will start on the 21st.

I would like to thank the King William County Sheriff's dept for bringing their K-9s today to sweep the school. I appreciate your continued partnership for a safe school environment.

Please read the information below for all of the graduation information.

The KWCPS Waiver Request form has been released. If your student has had over 18 absences in any class for any reason, please fill out the waiver linked here.

  • KWCPS Attendance Waiver Request (Spring 2026)

If your student still needs to make up seat time, there is still some time left. Please check with their admin for details.

With the warm weather here, please review the dress code with your student to ensure they are dressed in school-appropriate attire. We are taking donations of new or gently used clean pants, leggings, and sweatshirts to help get those out of compliance back in class quickly.

Dress Code Highlights: For a full list, please refer to the Student Code on Conduct linked on the KWCPS website

  1. Tops may not expose the shoulders, chest, cleavage, midriff, naval or waistline. Sleeveless garments such as tank tops must have sufficient width and not expose undergarments. “Spaghetti” straps, tube tops, halter tops, and off-the-shoulder shirts are not permitted.

  2. Bottoms may not expose the hips, midriff, buttocks, lower back, upper thigh, and navel, whether standing, sitting, or bending. All bottoms, to include dresses, skirts, and shorts, must be at least fingertip length and may not expose the areas identified herein.

  3. Require all undergarments to remain fully covered by appropriate clothing.

  4. Prohibit items of clothing that would impair the health and safety of the student during school activities, including excessive jewelry or accessories such as animal collars, chains, safety pins, or fish hooks.

  5. Prohibit clothing that depicts language, images, or innuendo that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene; that contain threats such as gang symbols; that depict illegal or violent behavior, or items prohibited in a school setting, such as weapons, drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, tobacco/tobacco products, or advertisements or logos of these items.

As a team, we will strive for all Cavaliers to be prepared to Enroll in a college or university, Enlist in the military, or become Employed after graduation. I expect all Cavaliers to be respectful in their daily interactions, be responsible for following all policies and procedures set by KWHS and KWCPS, and maintain a safe environment. We will work together to focus on success for EVERY CAV EVERY DAY. I appreciate your time and do not hesitate to email me at award@kwcps.k12.va.us or call me at (804) 769-3434 ext 604 if you have questions or concerns.

King William High School Cavaliers are Confident, Achievement-driven, Vision -focused, and Successful every day.

All things for Seniors and GRADUATION! All things for Seniors and GRADUATION!

Graduation Practice will be held on Tuesday, May 19th. Attendance is mandatory. Any senior not present will be denied participation in graduation on May 20th. Seniors will enter through the front doors promptly by 8:15 AM on May 19th. Seniors are to park in the student or gym lots. Students will take their senior class picture and then will proceed through graduation practice at KWHS.

  • Seniors must report to practice and graduation with caps, gowns, and tassels. Seniors are required to dress at practice as they are required to at graduation (this includes ties for the male students.)

  • Students must wear appropriate semi-formal attire for practice and graduation

    • Semi-formal dresses

    • Dark dress slacks

    • White collared dress shirt & tie or semi formal blouse

    • Black socks

    • Black dress shoes (flip flops and tennis shoes are not permitted)

  • A small cross body purse that can be worn under the graduation robe or pockets are recommended for students to hold keys/phone as there will not be a place to store personal items

  • Students may be excluded from practice if they are not appropriately dressed.

  • Anyone dismissed from practice for any reason will be excluded from graduation on Wednesday. Please dress and act appropriately.

Graduate Walk at HHMS, AES, and CSPS. In King William, we have the benefit of having the majority of our students attend all 4 schools in King William County. The visit will not only help celebrate your success in finishing high school, but also help motivate future Cavaliers to do the same! We will load the buses right after graduation practice and Senior Walk at the HS; then head down to CSPS, AES, and HHMS. At that time seniors will walk the hallways in their graduation apparel as staff, teachers, and students line the hallways before loading the buses to return to KWHS. Parents may join KWHS in the front parking lot starting at 9:30 to take pictures. Parents are not allowed to enter any school buildings for the senior walk, and we ask you not to gather at the other schools, as it could negatively impact their visitor parking.

Senior Picnic

The senior picnic will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, on school grounds from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please be sure that you are dressed appropriately. There may be water activities, so be sure to wear items that won’t be see-through if wet. Bathing suits are not permitted, and we expect students to be appropriately covered.

Important Reminders

Students who owe obligations that are not cleared by then will not participate in graduation practice or the graduation ceremony. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Melissa Krout, the KWHS bookkeeper.

All Chromebooks and chargers MUST be returned no later than 3:10 PM on Friday, May 15th. Anyone who has not returned their technology items may not participate in graduation practice.

Commencement (Graduation) Exercises will be held on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, beginning at 7:00 PM. The doors of Henrico Sports Complex will open at 6:00 PM, and parents/guests with tickets may begin entering at that time. Please note: We cannot admit anyone over the age of 2 without a ticket. Parking lots open at 5:30 pm.

***KWHS will be busing graduates to the Henrico Sports Complex. This is mandatory. All graduates will need to report to KWHS by 4:45 PM. Buses will leave at 5:00 PM. If a student misses the bus, they will not be able to participate in the ceremony. Attendance will be taken, and the order for walking into graduation will be double-checked. Note: No guests or family members will be admitted or be allowed in the prep area at this time. ***

Seniors must dress as previously described. Students dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Students must bring their caps, gowns, stoles, tassels, and any cords or school-awarded medallions to be worn. **We will NOT be able to provide these for you**

Each person attending graduation, including children over age 2, must have a ticket. All tickets have been given out, and extra ticket sales have ended.

All guests will be seated in the bleachers. If there is a need for special seating arrangements, parents should contact Mrs. Hirsch at the high school prior to Friday, May 1st. Special seating includes handicap seating plus one additional seat. Guests requesting special seating should be at their labeled space prior to 6:45 PM. There will be no admittance during the processional or while speakers are speaking.

At the end of graduation, graduates will be dismissed and will promptly exit the facility and meet their families outside. If families are interested in taking graduation photos, we recommend that pictures be taken at KWHS BEFORE the graduates have to get onto the bus. It will be dark in the parking lot with limited lighting, so pictures do not turn out great if you wait until after graduation. Families will be welcome on the KWHS campus (not inside the building) from 3:30-4:45 on May 20th to take pictures.

Parking for Graduation

No parking passes are needed! Please carpool if possible.

Pictures

As each graduate receives their diploma, Strawbridge photographers will be taking pictures. Guests will not be allowed on the floor during the ceremony. We also ask that guests not stand in the front aisle, as it blocks the view of the ceremony for others.

Graduation day is a proud time shared by all of our school community. Individuals who disrupt the program will be escorted from the facility. Any senior who disrupts the ceremony may be escorted from the facility and will not be given the diploma until the following week. All guests are asked to remain seated throughout the graduation ceremony. The following are prohibited items and policies for the Henrico Sports Complex

-No Re-entry

-No outside Food or beverages

-No Balloons

-No Glass

-No Weapons

-No Posters or Signs

Shout out to Ms. Barber! Shout out to Ms. Barber!

"I would like to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Barber for all of her hard work and dedication! Mrs. Barber consistently goes above and beyond to help others, always doing so with kindness, patience, and a caring attitude. She has taken on the additional responsibility of filling in for Mrs. Spicer while continuing to manage her own duties as registrar — essentially handling two jobs at once.

Her hard work and willingness to step up have not gone unnoticed. Taking on that level of responsibility is not easy, yet Mrs. Barber continues to support students and staff with professionalism and positivity every day. We are so grateful for everything she does for our school community, and she truly deserves this recognition!"
