There is no school on Monday in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day. I hope that Deer Hill families and staff enjoy the long weekend as we settle into Fall! -- Alex
Deer Hill Need to Knows
Show Your Cohasset Spirit! Do you need Cohasset swag? Check out the PSO's online store: https://www.cohassetpso.org/shop
Drop-Off Reminders: Please remember that any student who is being dropped off by car before school must do so through our back loop routine. We've seen a few cars parking in our front lot and students walking or being walked across to join students by the front doors in the mornings. Thank you for refraining from this practice.
Wear Blue, Take Two! What's better than wearing blue one day? How about wearing it two days, especially if it's to support a former Deer Hill student! Please see this message from Cohasset Middle School principal, John Scopelleti: Wear blue on Thursday, 10/15, to show some love for one of our students, who is finishing their round of medical treatments on Wednesday. It’s a small gesture, but an important one, that shows that CMS is always here to support each other. Families and students in other schools are encouraged to wear blue, too!
Fall Benchmark Data and Spring MCAS Results: Fall benchmark assessments (iReady and DIBELS) will be available in Aspen on October 14th. Spring MCAS results are also available in Aspen. Additionally, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released the MCAS Family Portal, which provides online access to your student’s individual results on the MCAS tests. MCAS data from spring 2026 is now included in the MCAS Family Portal, along with previous years’ data, if available, from spring 2025, 2024, and 2023. You can access the MCAS Family Portal online at https://mcasfamilyportal.emetric.net. To create an account, you will need your Student's Registration Code found in your Aspen Family Portal located in the Family tab. Please visit the MCAS Family Portal for more resources and FAQs.
October Is National Bullying Prevention Month: Deer Hill is committed to a safe, respectful, and responsible community every day, and October gives us a chance to set an important tone for the whole year. As a show of that commitment, we'll again participate in Unity Day on October 21st. This year we'll be buddying up with the Osgood community to come together and send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We encourage everyone to wear orange on this day!
October 30th Spirit Day Need to Knows: This is our second year of having the option to wear costumes at Deer Hill. Important need to knows are the fact that costumes may be "spooky" not "scary", must not include masks or inflatables, and students may not dress up as characters from R-rated movies, above their age limit video games, or books that wouldn't be read in school. Students also know that there should be no gory or violent costumes. Props and accessories are discouraged (again, no masks). Students understand the goal is to have fun while following the Skipper Creed so that this can be the continuation of a new tradition! Wearing crazy hair, dressing in black and orange, or "dressing up" as a Deer Hill student are also great options. Thank you for your help!
Deer Hill Happenings
Monday Meet Up with CHS Sports Captains: Cohasset High sports captains for all Fall teams came to our Monday Meet Up to promote teamwork on the playground and share details about how to be a positive fan at sporting events. They even shared some favorite cheers!
Thank you, PSO! On Thursday Deer Hill staff was treated to a delicious lunch catered by Lucky Finn with homemade desserts and treats from Mimi's. There were also beautiful flower arrangements for teachers to enjoy in their classrooms. Thank you, PSO. We feel the love!

CEF Auction Winner! Third grader Hunter C. was the winner of a very special CEF auction prize: he hitched a ride with the CPD in a police car. Glad to see they got you here on time, Hunter!

Safety Drills with School Resource Officer Lowrance (and Hugo!) Each year we practice important drills to ensure the safety of our school community. These include fire drills, shelter in place drills (ie for a medical emergency), and evacuation drills. This week SRO Lowrance led classes on hasty evacuation drills, where they practiced walking to a safe location beyond Osgood. This scenario would arise if there was a danger within the building that required us to gain some distance such as a significant gas leak. Hugo was only too happy to be on duty as Officer GLo's backup!
