New Resources Available
- The Disciplinary Literacy Essentials Beyond the Core Guide: Resources for Visual Arts, World Languages, Performing Arts, & more! To better support educators working in these important (and often marginalized) content areas, a team of teacher educators and consultants – supported by a professional learning community of classroom teachers – is developing The Disciplinary Literacy Essentials, Beyond the Core as a complement to the Essential Instructional Practices for Disciplinary Literacy: Grades 6 to 12. This is a living document and developing resource. In other words, you are reviewing an initial public draft that will grow and develop over time!
- Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Quick Start Guide: This resource aims to support educators as they engage in collaborative inquiry cycles within professional learning communities during implementation of the Essential Instructional Practices for Disciplinary Literacy. Examples provided will focus on middle- and high-school settings; however, educators at any level can use this guide to support effective implementation of professional learning communities focused on the Essential Practices documents found at https://literacyessentials.org/. Educators wishing to use this as a workbook are encouraged to make a copy of this document prior to recording individual or group reflections.

Disciplinary Literacy Task Force
The Disciplinary Literacy Task Force is comprised of consultants from across the state, each of whom brings his or her own disciplinary expertise. We meet monthly, and our most pressing goal is to continue to scale this work statewide. We also prioritize equity in the delivery of our services as well as building and leveraging partnerships across the state in an effort to promote this important work. Our ongoing work includes planning for, creating and implementing professional learning for secondary educators and using this newsletter, our blog, Twitter, and other publications to broaden awareness about this approach and its benefits to our secondary students. We look forward to increased opportunities to work with you!
