Presenting & Representing!
Senior FCCLA members Kate, Hannah, Ruby, and Krista spend Monday and Tuesday at the State FCCLA Convention in Sioux Falls with advisors Mrs. Lehkre and Ms. Prendergast. While there, members attended a variety of workshops including cookie decorating, and driving an Army tank simulator. Visiting with representatives at the college fair and attending general sessions with speakers and members from across the state were other convention highlights.
Members also engaged in project and presentation competitions. Ruby and Krista received a silver for their project about promoting and hosting an event: a middle school basketball tournament, while Hannah and Kate brought home gold and silver for their projects about promoting FCCLA to underclassmen and Caring Rose Week, respectively.
Remembering Those Who Made A Difference
Each year, senior English students get the opportunity to reflect on their years in school, but in a way that gives back to some of those who helped make that time special. Students are asked to write a reflective essays titled "A Teacher to Remember" about a teacher who made an impact in their lives. After grading, essays are given to the teachers that they were written about.
This year, the Sisseton Retired Teachers association judged the essays and awarded prizes. Pictured (left to right) are 3rd place Kate Meyer, 2nd place Carlee Moen, judge Linda Loberg, and 1st place winner Alexia Quinn.
Cooking—¡Aquí, Allí, y Allá!
Students in Spanish I and II have been cooking--here, there, and everywhere!
Monday, students in Mrs. Nordquist's Spanish I classes worked together to prepare tasty tapas, paella, and a tasty fruit drink, all from Spain, in her classroom.
On Thursday, Spanish II students were welcomed into Mrs. Lehrke's food lab to make Colombian Buñuelos. The dish, similar to fried donut holes, was chosen after students were challenged to select a recipe from an assigned country and create a presentation arguing why their recipe was the best, before their peers voted for the dish that would be made by the class. Caden's winning recipe was fun to both make and eat!
The Bill of Rights + A Bottle of Glue
Mr. Bartlett's government students recently completed a collage project where they had to represent 10 of the 27 constitutional amendments in a unique and creative way. Flipping through magazines looking for the perfect way to display the the ideas of no unreasonable searches or arrests, and limiting a president to serving two terms are Eiza and Amelia.
