Lady Warriors vie for State Championship in Class A Soccer!
Culleoka Volleyball Celebrates a Historic Season
School Spirit Spikes at Annual Teacher vs. Students Volleyball Fundraiser
Culleoka, Tennessee: On Friday, October 14 Culleoka students in grades K-12 gathered in the gymnasium to celebrate the conclusion of this year’s historic Lady Warriors Varsity Volleyball season. For the past nine seasons, the Lady Warriors pursued post-season play, only to fall short. However, this year was different. With hard work and perseverance, the Lady Warriors went on to compete in the Regional tournament and achieve their goal. Unfortunately, the team lost to Sail Creek who earned 1st place in the tournament. It was the first time in nine years that the Lady Warrior volleyball team had advanced to post-season play.
Upon returning home from the Regional tournament, it was time for the annual Teacher versus Students Volleyball Game fundraiser. For Seniors Hayley Ballow and Hannah Wyatt, this game was memorable for more than just playing a sport. Cheered on by their peers and accompanied by stadium-hit music, the comradery between teachers and students alike was enthusiastic and competitive. In reflecting on her last volleyball game as a Lady Warrior, Hannah recollected, “The most memorable moment of the game was when Mr. Lovett slammed the volleyball in our faces!” For Hayley Ballow, the game was more sentimental: “It was heartwarming seeing my Service-Learning Kindergarten students cheering me on from the stands.” Overall, the Teacher versus Students Volleyball game was a fantastic way to commemorate a historic and memorable volleyball season.
Elementary Cross Country Fun for All!
Spring Hill Elementary School News
Reading classes have been working on dramas and poetry, while math classes have tackled multi-digit multiplication. In science, we have learned about food webs and ecosystems. As a culminating activity, we dissected owl pellets. Social Studies classes are learning about the founding of our country and the Revolutionary War.
SHES third graders are continuing to gain a deeper knowledge in their learning. Third grade is diving deep into text features and using our text to ask and answer questions. We are continuing to work on our expository writing as well. In math, we have learned all the strategies to help us figure out how to solve a multiplication expression and are working on knowing our multiplication facts fluently, which will help us in learning division.
In Technology all students are having a blast with their Typing-Keyboarding unit of study. Learning proper techniques and home row is challenging but our Little Raiders are doing an awesome job. Some of our second-fourth graders have already taken the “magic blanket” challenge as they are testing their ability to “touch type” without looking at their hands. Together we have set our smart goals to practice our keyboarding and are seeing major improvements weekly.
Kindergarten students had their first field trip to Pumpkin Paradise and loved exploring farm life with classmates.
Our year is off to an amazing start at Spring Hill Elementary.
Marvin Wright Elementary School News
In ELA, kindergarteners at Marvin Wright have learned about the letters M, A, P, T, S, and will learn about the letter I in the next few weeks. We have also been discussing the different types of bugs we know about and discovering more about them. In Math, we have been counting to 10 and learning about adding one more to a number. We have also learned about comparing numbers using the words greater than and less than.
First grade has been learning many new things this month at MWES. In ELA, we are learning about the beginning and ending blends. We are also learning to retell stories using characters, settings, and events. In math, we are learning how to use strategies to add and subtract. We are looking forward to our field trip and fall festival this month!
Second graders at Marvin Wright are working on two-digit addition and subtraction. In reading, they have been studying poems and will soon begin learning about ways people can help their community.
Third grade at MWES is so excited to learn many new things. The students are reading poetry and discuss the author's point of view. They are learning about area and multiplication in math. Finally, they are studying the physical features of the world and the water cycle. We are so proud of all they have accomplished so far this year!
Marvin Wright is excited to announce that we will be having a Scholastic Book Fair the week of October 31st through November 4th. Our family night is Thursday, November 3rd, from 4:00-7:00. 25% of our sales go directly into the library account to buy books and makerspace stations for the library!

Veterans Day Program
The National Guard approved the landing and static display of a UH60 Black Hawk helicopter!
The City of Columbia, Parks and Recreation, is having our annual Veterans Day Program entitled “Portraits of Patriotism.” The times are from 9 – 2 pm. It will be an outside event located at Riverwalk Park in Columbia. There will be 20 personal displays throughout the park honoring our local veterans. They will remain in the park for 30 days. NOTE: There will not be a rain date in case of inclement weather.
The opening ceremony will begin at 10:00. We are inviting veterans to be present during the ceremony, as this is the time we make special mention about their service and sacrifice. Participants are encouraged to thank veterans for their service, and ask them questions about when, where, and how they served.
The Tennessee National Guard will be in full uniform and have multiple vehicle and weapons on display. They will be available to answer any questions you may have about the equipment they use, and the service they perform for our nation and state. Recruiters will be present to explain career options in the Tennessee Army National Guard, and how they serve the State of Tennessee in various roles.
Vintage military vehicles and weapons will be on display, along with camouflage face painting. This is a community event for the whole family, and an opportunity to honor those who put their lives on the line for our freedoms.
