As we enter the final nine weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our families, staff, and students for their continued partnership and support. Spring brings a busy season filled with activities, celebrations, and yes, state testing.

While testing provides important data that helps us evaluate progress and identify areas for growth, it is just one piece of the puzzle. True success can’t be measured by a single assessment. It’s reflected in the relationships we build with students, the joy we see in their eyes when a concept clicks, and the everyday moments that help them grow into confident, capable young adults.

At the same time, Willis ISD is entering an exciting new chapter. Through our Strategic Planning process, we are working alongside parents, students, staff, and community members to define a bold vision for the future of our schools. From an education summit of over 50 stakeholders to focus groups with more than 100 participants and a survey with over 1,000 responses, the input has been inspiring. Our design team is now refining the district’s mission, vision, goals, and action steps to guide our work for the next three to five years. We are grateful to everyone who has participated and look forward to the direction this plan will provide for our students’ success.

I would like to take an opportunity to remind you to check out our upcoming viewings of the Screenagers Film Series. This eye-opening documentary combines real stories with expert insight - and offers practical ways to help kids find balance in today’s screen-saturated world. The next sessions are on April 15, 17 and 30. Learn more HERE.

At Willis ISD, our focus remains on the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being part of our WildKat family.

With gratitude,

Dr. Kimberley James

Superintendent of Schools

Willis ISD is entering an exciting new chapter, and your input is key as we move into the CREATE phase of our Strategic Design process. To gather as much feedback as possible, we are re-opening the survey to ensure that EVERY voice is heard!

Together with our community, staff, and families, we’re building a bold vision for the future of our schools - one that reflects our shared values, beliefs, goals, and priorities.

This survey is your chance to help shape the Strategic Plan that will guide Willis ISD for the next 3–5 years. From college to careers, military to technical training - we want every student to be ready, and your feedback helps make that happen.

C.C. Hardy Elementary's Spring Steam Night was a ROARING success!

A huge thank you to all the students, families, and staff who made this event such a memorable one. The campus was alive with energy, laughter, and learning as Wildkat families dove into hands-on science experiments, explored exciting tech challenges, and created beautiful works of art.

Seeing students and families working side by side, exploring new ideas and sharing smiles, is what makes events like this so special. We’re grateful for the amazing staff who helped bring these engaging experiences to life and for the families who continue to support and celebrate learning outside the classroom.

We can’t wait to see what these young innovators do next!

During the regular board meeting held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the Willis ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the instructional materials selections for K-12 Math and K-5 Reading/Language Arts. The district selected Bluebonnet Learning for K-12 Math and Savvas for Reading/Language Arts.

Willis ISD led a comprehensive staff, parent and community engagement campaign to allow those interested an opportunity to review materials prior to the board vote. A total of eight meetings were held between December 2024 and March 2025, with over 200 attendees.

During the meetings, administrators presented the materials and attendees were given access to each vendor’s digital products for exploration and review. Meeting attendees were given a rubric to score each product based on content criteria. The information and voting rubrics were also shared with parents and staff through email. Additionally, district administrators, teachers and instructional coaches attended a materials showcase held at ESC 6 in Huntsville.

The data from the content rubrics, including participant feedback, was disaggregated and used to inform the district’s recommendation to the board. Teachers and staff will be trained on the new programs this summer to begin implementing the new curriculum in August 2025.

Meador Elementary's hallways were bursting with color, creativity, and inspiration as they honored the courageous, trailblazing women who shaped history and continue to pave the way for future generations.

Students brought powerful messages to life through their artwork, highlighting women who inspire us to be brave, lead boldly, write with purpose, and reach for the stars. From collaborative murals to thoughtful displays, their work reminds us of the incredible impact women have made across time and around the world.

Take a peek into the classroom and see what Willis ISD students have been doing for the

past few weeks!

Willis ISD has launched its Paws of PRIDE program - a special initiative to recognize staff who go above and beyond in their daily roles.

Alongside Superintendent Dr. James, we created the acronym PRIDE.

This acronym stands for:

  • Passionate
  • Responsive
  • Innovative
  • Dynamic
  • Empathetic

These five values reflect what we expect from our Wildkat staff. Utilizing a form, staff and community members can send personalized appreciation cards to any staff member who they believe is going above and beyond in their duties.

After a thoughtful review, we’re thrilled to recognize Brabham Middle School's Charla High and Lynn Lucas Middle School's Melissa Flores as our March Paws of PRIDE honorees! These outstanding staff members have made a remarkable impact on those around them, truly embodying our PRIDE values. They were honored by the Willis ISD Board of Trustees at the March board meeting.

We encourage you to show your appreciation year-round by submitting a Paws of PRIDE card for any staff member who goes above and beyond. It’s a great way to recognize their hard work and dedication!

There are several places you can go to submit an employee Paws of PRIDE card:

  • Direct Link to Form: https://forms.gle/CQJxj1pkjnFCdfFW6
  • Visit the Willis ISD Website and click on Paws of Pride under the "Community" tab.
  • On any district or campus website, find the Paws of PRIDE button on the right middle of the screen.
  • Use the Willis ISD Mobile App: Click on the "paw" icon in the "More" screen.

The following staff members were hired between March 4 and April 1. Welcome to the district - we are so happy to have each and every one of you!

At Willis ISD, we prioritize open and effective communication with our families. To enhance our service, we are introducing a new Communications Process on our website. This system will help ensure that your questions and concerns are directed to the appropriate individual, allowing for quicker and more efficient responses.

How Does It Work?

  • A "Contact Us" button is available on the right side of district and campus websites.

  • Clicking the button will walk you through a step-by-step communication flow, helping you determine the best person to assist you.

  • Once you’ve found the appropriate contact, you’ll be redirected to a Contact Request Form, which will automatically connect your inquiry to the correct staff member.

  • The designated staff member will receive an email notification and will respond to your request as soon as possible.

Communication Levels:

  • Level 1: Campus Receptionist – General inquiries, schedules, events, and policies.
  • Level 2: Teacher – Questions related to class content, grades, and assignments.
  • Level 3: School Nurse – Health-related concerns, immunizations, and student well-being.
  • Level 4: Counselor – Student support, academic planning, and social-emotional concerns.
  • Level 5: Campus Administrator – Issues unresolved at prior levels.
  • Level 6: District Department – Larger concerns requiring district-level resolution.

Why Does This Matter?

This structured approach ensures that your questions reach the right person quickly and efficiently, improving communication between families and staff.

We encourage you to use this new tool to streamline communication. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support of Willis ISD!

In Willis ISD, safety is our number one priority, and we will not tolerate behavior that threatens the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Students and parents can utilize the district’s anonymous alerts system to report any suspicious or known activity. K12 Anonymous Alert allows for anonymous reporting (or you can add your information, and we can reply). It also sends messages to school and district administrators 24 hours a day directly on our phones. The alert system can be accessed on the Willis ISD mobile app or on the website linked below!
