Healthy Habits
Make mealtime family time.
Why this matters: Shared meals help families catch up and connect. “It’s a wonderful time to give your child positive feedback,” says Adrienne Adams, MD, MS, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Rush University Medical Center.
“You might ask, ‘What good thing happened to you at school today?’ Use this time to applaud your child’s accomplishments.” In addition, studies show that kids who regularly eat with their families have healthier eating habits than those who don’t.
Make it happen: If busy family schedules are crowding out family dinners, try sharing breakfasts in the morning or lunches on the weekend.
PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports
Our new spotlight behavior focus is "Use Your Manners".
We had our PBIS assembly on 2/25 and kicked off our focus on manners, this will run through mid March. Some of the manners we will focus on specifically are; saying please and thank you, being patient-not interrupting, saying hello when someone says it to you, holding the door for the person behind you just to name a few. Below are some short videos that you can show at home to reinforce manners. Staff will be looking for students who show manners and will award green points for students showing this spotlight behavior. The student in each class with the highest number of spotlight points gets a free Hamlton t-shirt!

For students who ride the bus, please make sure they are at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the assigned time as the routes can run early from time to time. The same is true at the end of the day, please be at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to drop off just incase they are early.
All Young 5's and Kindergarten students must be met by an adult at the bus before they will be let off the bus. If you want your child Y5 or K student to be released to an older sibling or family member you can fill out a form in the office to give to the driver.
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has partnered with Here Comes the Bus to offer families an app that will help avoid students and parents from waiting too long for the bus. Here Comes the Bus allows parents to see where their child’s bus is along the route and when it will be at their bus stop.

Family Resource Center
The Corewell School Based Health Clinic at Adams Middle School is a great resource available to children ages 3 to 21 that live or attend school in Wayne/Westland. They provide medical services including: sports physicals, well child exams, school and childhood vaccines, hearing and vision screenings, sick visits, as well as mental health counseling. The clinic accepts all insurances, but no one is ever turned away for the inability to pay. They also have staff trained to assist families apply for medicaid. They are a great option if your student needs back to school vaccines or sports physicals and can't get into their PCP office, have no insurance, or can't pay a copayment. Appointments are highly recommended. They are open 5 days a week and hours vary. Call 734-728-2423 to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions.
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.) They are also able to supply school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their serviceshttps://www.wwcsd.net/schools/elementary-schools/hamilton/calendars/
