Career Exploration: Engineering
The Chelsea Center has many community partners dedicated to the growth and development of Webster Groves High School students. We couldn’t do this work without them!
Are you interested in partnering with us? We’d love to have you!
Students have a wonderful opportunity right here on campus to learn more about what engineering careers are all about via seminars we will be holding during Academic Networking times on October 22 and October 29. Students will hear an overview of what engineering careers encompass and network with Greg Terri, PE,--an executive at a major St. Louis engineering firm.
There are many different areas of engineering, and one of them might just spark your student’s interest! We encourage students to register on GivePulse to attend these brief talks to discover the types of work engineers do and to begin thinking about the diverse possibilities for their future.
October 22: Engineering Fields overview
Chemical Engineering (which can also include nuclear and biomedical)
Mechanical Engineering (also Aerospace)
Electrical Engineering (which can also include Computer and Data Science)
Civil Engineering (also Environmental and Construction)
October 29: A deeper dive into Civil Engineering and related professions, specifically:
Structural Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Construction Management
The Chelsea Center will host Greg Terri of Keller North America to speak with students to demystify the field of engineering. Mr. Terri received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Northwestern University and a master of science in geotechnical engineering from the University of Michigan. As the Area Manager for Keller Engineering in St. Louis, Mr. Terri is responsible for oversight and management of structural and ground improvement projects.
The Chelsea Center arranges for group job shadows and career exploration opportunities monthly. We align those experiences with the WG Pathways initiative aimed at showing students that education is both about academic excellence and self-discovery. Pathways are not designed to lock students in but rather to invite exploration.
The Industrial and Engineering Technology pathway encompasses careers that apply scientific
principles and technical skills to design, develop, and improve products, systems, and processes. It includes roles in engineering (such as mechanical, electrical, and civil), manufacturing, automation, logistics, quality control, and maintenance. This pathway focuses on innovation, problem-solving, and utilizing advanced technologies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability across various industries. It offers opportunities to contribute to the development of new technologies, improve operational processes, and drive technological advancements in engineering and industrial sectors.
Whether your student is set on a future career in engineering or is simply considering all options, we hope they will attend these seminars! Students can register on GivePulse or visit the Chelsea Center in room 200 for assistance.
Parents: Would you be excited to show off your career and workplace to students?
Our valued community partners invest in the development of the next generation in many ways. Community partners participate in our experiential learning program as guest speakers, job shadow hosts, and internship sponsors. There is a way you can become involved within your current time constraints, and we think you will find it energizing and inspiring to spend a bit of time with the wonderful students at Webster Groves High School.
We'd love to hear from you and are open to any idea you want to bring to us! Please complete the form on our website page linked here and we'll be in touch!
