From Principal Lakin's Desk

Hello Davisburg Community,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! Davisburg is Leveling Up!

I chose “Leveling Up” as our theme this year for a few reasons. First, I am a lifelong gamer, and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) remains my favorite video game system of all time. The famous catchphrase that went along with the SNES was, “Now you’re playing with power. Super power!”

That inspired two phrases:

For our students: “Now You’re Learning with Power. Super Power!”
For our staff: “Now You’re Teaching with Power. Super Power!”

But Leveling Up is about much more than video games. It represents the fun we can have while learning, growing, challenging ourselves, and becoming better each day. It is also about empowering every member of our school community, students, staff, and families, to recognize the important role they play in making Davisburg such a special place.

So, Davisburg families, I hope you are ready to Level Up with us!

This past Wednesday, we had an amazing turnout for Open House! It was wonderful seeing so many of our returning students and families back in the building and welcoming our newest Young Five and Kindergarten students to Davisburg.

The excitement throughout the building was a great reminder of what makes our community so special. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

There are also several new faces at Davisburg this year, and I am incredibly excited for you to get to know them. Each of these new staff members brings something special to our school, and they are wonderful additions to the Davisburg team!

  • Young 5s: Mrs. Dovre
  • Kindergarten: Ms. Cross
  • 1st Grade: Ms. Biordi
  • 3rd Grade: Ms. Werner
  • 5th Grade: Ms. Hoag
  • Resource Room: Ms. Phelps
  • Physical Education: Mr. Snodsmith
  • School Social Worker: Mrs. Johnson
  • Paraprofessionals: Ms. Strong and Ms. Fletcher

Please join me in giving all of our new staff members a warm Davisburg welcome!

With Monday being our first day of school, please remember that Monday, August 31, is a half day, with dismissal at 12:00 p.m.

  • Students in 1st through 5th grade will follow a normal half-day schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  • For our Young Five and Kindergarten students, the first day will look a little different. We have designed special parent/child visitation sessions to help our youngest Bronchos become comfortable with their classrooms, teachers, and school before beginning their regular school routine.

  • To provide families with plenty of time and space, visitation will be divided by last name:

    • Last names A–M: 9:00–10:00 a.m.

    • Last names N–Z: 10:15–11:15 a.m.

  • Due to classroom space, we ask that only parents or guardians accompany their Young Five or Kindergarten child to the visitation.

    • We also ask that siblings not attend, if possible.

  • This hour is an opportunity to spend time with your child's teacher, become familiar with the classroom and school, and officially experience what it feels like to be a Davisburg student. Our goal is to make the transition into school as comfortable, welcoming, and exciting as possible!

  • When arriving for visitation, please park in the front parking lot and enter through the main entrance. Families will sign in upon arrival, and staff members and signs will be available to help direct you to your child’s classroom.

Beginning with our first full day (September 1, 2026), our regular school hours will be:

  • First Bell/Students Enter: 8:30 a.m.
  • Second Bell/School Begins: 8:45 a.m.
  • Dismissal: 3:46 p.m.
  • Half-Day Dismissal: 12:00 p.m.

Students arriving by bus will begin unloading at 8:30 a.m. Families using the car line should keep students in their vehicles until staff members are outside and ready to assist.

Students who would like breakfast may pick it up in the cafeteria and take it to their classroom.

Thank you for your continued partnership, trust, and support as we begin the 2026–2027 school year. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Davisburg Elementary.

I am beyond excited to begin another school year with this incredible community and to continue helping our students, staff, families, and school grow, thrive, and Level Up!

Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thank you for being part of our Davisburg family.

Positive Student Behavior Referrals are returning

We are excited to continue our Positive Behavior Referral program this school year as part of our LEAD program! These referrals give our staff an opportunity to recognize students who are making great choices, demonstrating strong character, helping others, and making a positive impact at Davisburg.

When a student receives a Positive Behavior Referral, they are called down to the office for a special celebration. I personally read their referral aloud to them so they can hear exactly what a staff member recognized them for. Students then receive a prize and get to take their Positive Behavior Referral home to share with their family!

I also take the student's picture so we can recognize them in the Davisburg Dispatch parent newsletter (if they are allowed to have their picture shared) and celebrate their accomplishment with our entire school community.

We want our students to know that their positive choices matter and that we notice when they are demonstrating what it means to be a Davisburg Broncho. I cannot wait to celebrate many of our students throughout the 2026-2027 school year!

With a new school year starting let's continue working together to ensure a safe and efficient start and end to each school day., Please review these friendly reminders about our car line procedures for drop-off and pick-up.

Morning Drop-Off:

  • Please enter the front car line loop and pull all the way forward to help keep traffic off Davisburg Road.
  • Once staff are outside, students may exit from the passenger side only.
  • For safety, parents should remain in their vehicles.
  • Students will walk directly to breakfast or head to their classrooms.

Afternoon Pick-Up:

  • Please remain in your vehicle and follow the car line to the designated loading area.
  • Be sure to display your family name sign in the front window to help us load students quickly and efficiently.
  • Students will wait in the designated area until their ride reaches the loading zone.
  • For safety and traffic flow, students will enter vehicles from the passenger side only.
  • Please note: Office pick-up is no longer available. All students will be dismissed through the car line or bus.

We truly appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe, smooth, and efficient process for all of our students. Thank you for doing your part to support our Davisburg community!
