π Reading, Writing, and Math π’
A note from Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh
While out in schools this week
I had the chance to spend some time with our secondary students, and it was wonderful to see their hard work as we near the end of the first quarter. In one middle school classroom, students were deeply engaged in a reading lesson, reflecting on how an author used imagery to bring their story to life. Students were also reflecting on and writing about what types of words they might have used themselves in the story.
Down the hall, math students were learning how to calculate interest using the formula Interest = Principal Γ Rate Γ Time. It was great to hear them talk through the formula, discussing how rate and time can change the amount of money earned, and to watch those lightbulb moments as they solved for unknowns together. One group of students shared that they had a competition to see who could adjust the variables and make the most money during a fixed time period.
In another classroom, students were working on an art activity, using leaves dipped in paint to create pressed designs on construction paper. The project blended creativity with careful attention to detail, resulting in thoughtful and expressive work. It was an excellent example of how artistic expression enhances the learning environment and allows students to connect with their work in new ways. Iβm continually inspired by the pride and enthusiasm our students bring to their learning.

Federal Shutdown: Currently No Impact to School Meals
We know current events at the federal level have raised questions for many families across our community. We want to reassure families that the Marysville School District will continue to provide the services we currently offer, including free school meals.
The latest pause and upcoming changes to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not affect MSDβs current practice of providing free breakfast and/or lunch to any MSD student who walks through our doors.
However, it is crucial that families complete and submit their free and reduced lunch eligibility forms, also known as the Family Income Survey or the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit (CNEEB) Application. The form and information about it are available on our website at: https://www.msd25.org/page/child-nutrition-services
Filling out the CNEEB application helps ensure MSD can continue providing free meals to students. Completing the form also allows eligible families to waive MSD athletics fees, access utility and YMCA membership discounts, and access free WiFi hotspots. We encourage all families to complete this form, especially if your family's income has recently decreased for any reason.

Campus Crew Signups π±
Don't forget: our first Campus Crew Cleanup Day is about one week away at Marshall Elementary and Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary! This is an opportunity for district staff, families, and community members to work together to prepare these campuses for fall and winter weather. We look forward to working (rain or shine) and celebrating with hot chocolate once we finish. Please join us at either campus from 2:00- 4:00 pm next Saturday!
π The College and Career Fair π§
Informative and engaging: a fair with flair! π€©
Thank you to all who came out for the College and Career Fair! It was wonderful to see so many families and students explore future possibilities both within our community and beyond. We are so excited to continue supporting students across our district to help prepare them for whatever is next and the amazing things they are sure to accomplish.
It wasn't just staff and career professionals making the magic happen: part of the event included students with the MPHS and MGHS HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) clubs showcasing the health industry skills they've been learning, like how to take blood and demonstrating how to give medical sutures.
Special thanks to our CTE team for their dedication and passion, and to all of our community partners who helped make this annual event such a success!
