A Message from Mr. Hedges

February 15, 2019

Shamrock Families,

Our current eLearning closing window is quickly approaching. ALL students will need to have the assignments completed by this Monday a.m. (Feb. 18th). Based upon the assignments that have already been completed, it looks like we should have an excellent attendance rate for the two previous days missed due to the weather. A reminder that your child's attendance will be based upon the amount of assignments completed. Thanks for your help and support.

You should have received an email from the district yesterday informing you that our next cancellation day will also be an eLearning day. Let's hope we don't need it!

Thanks to all the parents that helped organized the Valentine Day parties yesterday..so fun! A reminder that we will have school on Monday, February 18th. Have a great weekend.

Kind Regards,

Robert D. Hedges

AHA Kids Heart Challenge!

Your child should already have received a collection envelope for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (which was Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart.)

We’re excited to continue to help those with special hearts!

We just kicked off and already have 70 students registered online as possible!

Our school has been selected to pilot a new incentive: If we can get half (=238) of our students to register online, we will be awarded $500 in PE equipment!

Ask your student about Finn and how they can be a heart warrior for kids like him! To get started, visit our school’s website below. By registering online, it becomes easy for you and your donors to raise donations for the mission of the American Heart Association. Your student will pick a health challenge, like drinking more water, getting additional exercise, or doing a good deed (and will earn a wristband!)

PTO Movie Nights

This year we’ve got a lot of fun filled movie nights planned for the students, but we can’t make these events happen without your help! Parent volunteers are needed to help ensure organization and ultimately safety so all our kids have a great night watching a movie with their classmates.

We understand for some of you when you drop your kids off with us its “Date Night” and that is one of the awesome benefits of Movie Nights, but please consider volunteering on those nights when your child’s grade isn’t scheduled to attend. You can even bring your little ones to join in on the fun on the night when you volunteer!

2019 Movie Night Lineup

Mar 22 (2nd & 3rd Grade) - My Neighbor Totoro

May 17 (4th Grade) - 4th Grade Picks!

Volunteer shifts are fun, simple and gratifying and the best part is they only last 3 1/5 hour at the most. As an added bonus this year when you volunteer you will receive 2 free movie tickets to the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum to have a Movie Night of your own.

Sign up for a shift or two at http://tinyurl.com/SSESMovieNight

Thank you for your support of your PTO!

PAWS TO READ AT WWPL

Paws to Read continues to occur at Westfield Washington Public Library from 10:30am to 11:30am, on the second Saturday of each month, even through the winter holiday season. Paws to Read is a great opportunity for kids to practice reading out loud to a friendly dog, in a non-judging atmosphere. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. To register, parents call the WWPL Children’s desk at 317-896-9391.

Nurse's Notes

We have had a stomach bug going around this week. It presents with stomachache, nausea, vomiting, and with or without fever. Staying home for 24-48 hours after the child vomits will help prevent the spread of this virus, along with hand washing and cleaning surfaces with a bleach solution.

Please make sure your student is wearing coats, gloves, and hats to school!

Hope to see you there!
