The Tuesday Notice
October 7, 2025
A huge thank you to Hilton Landscape, Mr. Criswell, Alicia Welder, The Siskiyou School Grants Committee, and The Siskiyou School Playground Committee for helping make this joyful update happen. The children’s laughter says it all!
Dear Siskiyou School community,
A quick reminder, there will be no school on Monday, October 13, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
In recognition of this day, our school will gather this Friday morning for a special assembly to honor and celebrate the many Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures, and lands continue to shape Southern Oregon and our shared story.
The assembly will be led by Siskiyou School parent Lupe Sims (Cedar, 2nd grade, Star Class) and will include language teaching, a remembrance of the original peoples of this region, a brief history of Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Ashland, a reading of the SOU land acknowledgment, and a round dance as we lift up respect and gratitude for the Native peoples of this area.
Please bundle your children warmly for Friday’s assembly, we’ll be outside together for about 30 minutes. We look forward to gathering in community for this meaningful celebration.
Warmly,
Katherine Holden
Administrator

Oregon Battle of the Books
THE BATTLE IS ON! Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is coming back to The Siskiyou School! OBOB is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries and Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-8th grade regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students. Students will form teams, read at least 4 books (up to 16) and compete in battles with the support of a parent coach. Reading, team meetings, and battles will occur outside of school hours.
To learn more about OBOB please view their website at www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org or reach out to Amy Bull at amy.bull@siskiyouschool.com, and keep an eye out for the student permission slips along with more detailed information.
Parent Coaches are needed! We need awesome adults to help lead the teams, please let Amy know if you'd like to help with this amazing program!
Bear Class - 4th Grade
The Bear Class is thriving!
As always, our days are filled with giggles, growth, and friendship. We have thoroughly enjoyed our first block study on Oregon Geography—especially our field trips to Crater Lake and Table Rock! The children have been practicing descriptive writing both in small groups and as a whole class.
Please enjoy their reflection from Table Rock below,
~Mrs. Bartow
Table Rock
On Monday, we hiked a steep, rocky trail to the top of Table Rock and beheld the breathtaking views of the valley below. As the wind blew all around us, we felt a sense of accomplishment. We were starving and craved food, so we devoured our lunches. The rain poured down on us as we made our way back down the trail. It was an exciting adventure together! Our community classifieds are posted as a service to our Siskiyou School families and our broader community. If you would like to include something in the classifieds, email your text (a few lines in length) or an image file (png or jpg only), to kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org no later than Monday by 3:00 pm. We may edit it for space purposes. Classifieds are included for two weeks, require a break for a week, and then can be renewed upon request.

Cozy Colors of the Earth- EcoArt for Youth Series
Step into the Magical Botanical Studio this autumn and discover the colors of the earth. In this six-week journey, we’ll gather in the natural dye garden at Sunny Joy Farm to create art infused with nature’s beauty and rhythm. Together we’ll paint with soy milk and food-waste dyes on soft napkins, press flowers into fabric to make eco-printed bandanas, and craft a walnut and oak table runner filled with the quiet magic of the season.
Each class offers more than making—it’s a gentle space to slow down, breathe, and feel restored. Through the soothing movements of eco-arts, youth will learn simple practices for calming their nervous systems, building self-awareness, and finding balance, while weaving their inner world with the beauty of the outer.
