Bulldog Bulletin
March 8, 2024
We have lots of exciting events happening in the next few weeks! On Thursday, March 14th, we will be hosting our Open House and Spring Book Fair. You and your child(ren) can visit Sarah Adams from 6:00-7:00 and view school work, art projects, meet with all of our staff, go on a scavenger hunt, and visit our Book Fair. It is a fun-filled night, and we hope to see you there!
This week our 5th graders completed the Illinois Science Assessment and starting the week of 3/18, 3rd-5th grade students will be starting the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). We will have two ELA tests before Spring Break and 3 Math tests the week we return. As a way to create a supportive environment, our teachers have shared a list of test-taking tips and strategies for students to view. We are also having 2 weeks of Spirit Days for all of our Bulldog community to cheer on our testers! Please see our list of days included in the bulletin.
If you haven't done so yet, please take the time to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is a helpful tool in helping us understand the effectiveness of our building and ways that we can continue to improve. The link is provided below and shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes of your time.
Finally, I am so excited and proud to share great recognitions that happened this week! Two of our phenomenal staff members were awarded the D95 Annual Educator of the Year Awards! Mrs. Jessica Clevenger won the Student Support Award and Mr. Jim Witt won the Classroom Diverse Learning Teacher Award! Please pass on your congratulations to Mrs. Clevenger and Mr. Witt for their outstanding contributions to our Bulldog community. I am so happy for them!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Colleen Conway

Health Update
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced that it is adopting the updated guidance from the CDC to simplify recommendations for dealing with COVID-19 - effective Friday, March 1st. We have since received confirmation from the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) that school districts are free to move forward adopting the same guidance.
Please see below for changes to guidance for students who test positive for COVID:
Students who test positive for COVID “can return to normal activities when symptoms have been improving for 24 hours,” per LCHD
If there was a fever present, students may return to school once their fever has been gone for 24 hours without use of a fever-reducing medication
This updated guidance removes the mandatory 5-day isolation period, and instead focuses on symptom monitoring - which means that a student may be able to return to school in fewer than 5 days, or may be out more than 5 days (depending on the severity of their symptoms)
Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of illness, and communicate with the school health office if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to implementing this adjusted, more flexible guidance with respect to COVID cases.
