Project 351
Project 351 provides a year of service learning opportunities to an 8th grade Ambassador from each of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Each year at OMS, faculty silently nominate deserving 8th graders for consideration as the Project 351 Ambassador from OMS and the Town of Stoughton. Faculty were asked to nominate students based on the Project 351 selection criteria of recognizing quiet and unsung heroes who...
- lead with an open heart and mind
- exemplify values of kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude
- demonstrate a strong ethic of service
- reflect respect for the dignity of all and for the diversity of culture, race, heritage, and lived experiences
- can work independently but also values teamword
- reflect strong potential and a desire to learn and lead
All students who are nominated are recognized locally and our selected Ambassador goes on to represent OMS and Stoughton at the State House for Launch Day and for a year of service opportunities.
Tana Bernard, Project 351 Ambassador
Tana Bernard is the 2024 Project 351 Ambassador for OMS and Stoughton. Congratulations, Tana!
Tana embodies Project 351 values of kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude. She is a model student and a leader amongst her peers. Tana always makes an effort to say hello to people and ask them how they are. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone is included and she is never afraid to do the right thing. Tana is a change-maker and has unlimited potential to lead positive change. One example of this was during Start with Hello week this year. Tana recognized her fellow peers who were upstanders in our school by completing upstander-grams for them. In addition to this, she completed an upstander gram for every teacher she had in Grade 6 and Grade 7 as well as upstander grams for her current Grade 8 teachers. Her notes to them shared her gratitude for the positive change they make in students' daily lives. While students were all encouraged to give an upstander in our school a shout-out, Tana went above and beyond by acknowledging and recognizing the positive change being made by both peers and teachers.
Tana is humble, approachable, accepting of others, and a team player. She works hard both in school and in her extracurricular activities. Tana is a member of the OMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, plays soccer, and participates in band. She is driven and motivated to continue to do great things and excel in whatever she sets her mind to.
Project 351 Nominees
Five other students in Grade 8 were nominated to be the Project 351 ambassador: Brennan Cox, Valentina de Carvalho, Eden Gonsalves, Jackson Gosule, and Victor Pereira. These students are recognized for their hard work, character, and commitment to service. Congratulations to all of our Project 351 nominees!

Geography Awareness Week
This week was Geography Awareness Week! Mr. Gunning, Mrs. Killion, and Mrs. Spears (Grade 7 Social Studies teachers) promoted Geography throughout OMS this week. On the morning announcements, students heard Geo-Facts and a Geography themed "Joke of the Day" every day. Here's an example of a Geography joke of the day - Q: "What has a mouth, but can't eat?" A: "A river!"
The Grade 7 Social Studies curriculum has a focus on Geography so students in Grade 7 had the option of participating in a "Geo-Fashion" activity on Thursday. Students and staff were encouraged to wear some kind of clothing that represents a place in the world. In class, students shared more about the place featured on their wardrobe (location, physical/cultural geography, fascinating fact). Check out some pictures below of Geo-Fashion!
Spirit Day is Coming!
Next week, we have some exciting events as part of our annual celebrations leading up to Thanksgiving.
On Tuesday afternoon (11/21), we will be going up to the SHS football field to watch a performance by the SHS Marching Band. Students should bring a jacket so they can keep warm as we will be outside on the bleachers to watch the performance.
Wednesday (11/22) is Spirit Day at OMS! Students should wear their black and orange to show their school spirit. We will have a special schedule as the day is organized and planned by our own OMS Student Council. It is an early release day, dismissal will be at 11:32am.
If students need to order spirit wear, the OMS PTSO is selling Stoughton gear. If you submit your order and payment by Sunday night (11/19), your spirit wear will be available for pickup at OMS after school on Monday by the OMS entrance.
You can purchase spirit wear by two methods:
