News from Candice
Hello CME families! What a fantastic week it's been at CME!
We are so touched by the response to our Veteran recognition drive! Thank you for sending in those special forms; we can't wait to display them proudly as a beautiful tribute in our school.
We also sincerely hope to welcome many of our community's veterans and service members to join us for a special lunch on November 11th. It’s our chance to show our deep appreciation. Every single person at CME is profoundly grateful for the dedication and service of these amazing men and women. Thank you for making our celebration possible!
Name and Contact Update
Many of you know I got married over the summer. I'm excited to share that I have officially updated my name to Candice Wain.
My new email address is: cwain@dcsdk12.org
Emailing me: Don't worry! My old email address will still forward messages to me, so you can continue using it. I'm just letting you know my new address in case you see a change on your end.
What to call me: Please feel free to call me either Ms. Laviaguerre or Ms. Wain. I'm still adjusting to the new name myself!
School Accountability Committee Meeting
Our next SAC meeting will be on Monday, November 10 at 4:00-6:00. We are excited to welcome Ms. Alison Shanor, the principal of Mountain Ridge Middle School, to talk to us about the upcoming shift to middle school for all 6th graders. She will be available to take questions and tell you a little about her journey of taking on the 6th graders next year.
Additionally, I will be sharing a presentation about our school safety and protocols. If you are interested in learning more about how we are working to keep our students safe, feel free to join us!
Community Support During the Shutdown
We understand the ongoing government shutdown may be creating unexpected financial stress and uncertainty for many families, especially concerning essential needs like groceries. Our school community wants to support you during this challenging time.
If your family is experiencing food insecurity or a temporary need for grocery assistance due to the shutdown's impact on employment or benefits, please reach out to Candice confidentially, at cwain@dcsdk12.org. We have access to local resources and limited grocery store gift cards that we can discreetly share with families in need.
How You Can Help
For families who are able and would like to support this effort, we are also gratefully accepting donations of grocery store gift cards (any amount is helpful) that will be distributed directly to our community members facing hardship. Please drop off any donated gift cards with the front office.
Please note our commitment: Any grocery gift cards collected but not needed by our families will be donated directly to a local food pantry that specifically supports students in our district, ensuring all contributions benefit children facing food insecurity. Your student's well-being is our top priority.
With warm Fall wishes,
Candice

HALLOWEEN CANDY-
Now that Halloween is over, you may have a bunch of candy left over and you are wondering what to do with it. Well, the staff at Copper Mesa would love it if you donated your extra candy to our school. We always have a bowl of candy in the office for our staff to enjoy throughout the day. And candy has a long shelf life, so it normally takes several months to get through your generosity.
VETERAN'S DAY - Veteran's Day forms
Please send in your completed Veteran's Day forms so we can proudly display them on our wall.
Do not send original photographs or documents. Please submit copies only.
We can't wait to celebrate and recognize everyone who has served our country. Thank you for your service!
BOOK FAIR -
Please take a moment to check out the sign up genius for the Fall Book Fair! Lots of fun is coming to the CME Library!
We will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 11th through the 13th. The Book Fair will be open each day from 7:45am - 4:30pm.
This is a perfect time to stock up on the perfect gifts for the holidays or books to support continued reading during long breaks! We will have lots of titles to fill your shopping list! The proceeds from the Book Fair helps CME purchase new books for the library. Thank you in advance for supporting the CME Library!
Fondly,
Allison Troxel
ORIGINAL WORKS FUNDRAISER -
We’re excited to announce that we will be partnering with Original Works this Fall, the original art-based fundraising company! Students created artwork at school and you can have your child’s art reproduced onto a variety of keepsake products ranging from Mugs to Magnets.
Ordering will be done online through Nov. 11, 2025.
The products make great holiday gifts and birthday gifts for family members as well as wonderful keepsakes for the students.
Orders will arrive at school in early December.
Complete details on how to order and a preview of your students artwork will be sent home today in Thursday folders.
And the icing on the cake is our school earns a profit from every order placed!
Thank you for supporting this unique and creative program!
KINDIE REGISTRATION -
Kindergarten registration will be open on November 3rd! If you are currently attending a DCSD preschool and your address shows that Copper Mesa is your home school, your student will automatically roll to CME for kindergarten! If you need to register a new incoming kindie, please do so on November 3rd! Students must be 5 by October 1, 2026 to enroll in kindergarten! https://www.dcsdk12.org/schools-academics/schools/kindergarten
NUTRITION SERVICES -
We are reaching out to all families with students who have Peanut and Tree Nut allergies to let you know that Nutrition Services will start serving the Uncrustable Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich at lunch time in our elementary and charter schools.
We’re adding these sandwiches to help meet the needs of all students. PB&J sandwiches are a quick, nutritious, and familiar option for students that also help us reduce food waste. Please know that student safety remains our top priority. The Uncrustable sandwich is a packaged product, which helps reduce cross contact from the Peanut Butter with other products in the kitchen.
