Counselor NEWS
January 2021
Hello All!
I hope this finds you healthy and rejuvenated after our holiday break. I am excited to see all of our students back in the building this week. This month we will be talking about careers with all ages. We will explore possibilities of careers with the middle school, and find out interest areas by completing interest profilers. Make sure to ask your child about their strengths! Our 8th graders will also get a chance to listen to Keynote Speaker Brooks Harper on January 20th.
As we get back into the swing of things after our short break we will continue to take care of our emotional and mental health needs first. The past year was challenging, but the new year brings new opportunities. Please reach out if i can assist you in any way.
UND Mentors
We are excited to announce an opportunity for our students who are distance learning to receive mentorship from a UND Education Major this year. We strive to provide equality and service to all of our students. As always our in building students have access to a multitude of resources daily and we encourage them to seek assistance when necessary. Our distance learning families you will be contacted for permission for your child to be assigned a mentor. You must complete a consent form for this to occur. Mentors will be addressing a social emotional learning curriculum with the students and be available to help with homework if necessary during their allotted time. All mentors will receive training from myself and be able to ask questions or address concerns at anytime.
STOPit Anti-Bullying/Mental Health App.
In January we are rolling out our new Anti-bullying software. This is an app that all students and parents will be able to download on your mobile device or computer. Each person must have our school access code to gain entrance. This is a place where students and parents are able to report events they may have witnessed to promote safety for our students. We will address proper use of this app with the 5th. - 8th grade students who if they have a mobile device will be able to download and set up the app with my guidance. This will also be available for students on our in house computers so they can address concerns if they do not have access to a mobile device. OF COURSE students are encouraged to come and talk directly to myself, Mrs. Hiltner and Mr. Wheeler anytime they feel there is a safety concern.
We are in this Together.
We are in this together. Let's make the start of 2021 a great success!
