Principal Patten's Newsletter
April 30, 2026
Dear Onahan Community,
I would like to follow up on the safety issue of the unspent bullets found on the Onahan field and playground I wrote about earlier in the week. These areas have been searched and no additional items have been found.
As the weather warms up, we have more groups of people hanging out after hours on the school property. Officer Torres from the 16th CPD District confirmed that our special attention
request is in place for extra patrols of the Onahan property. If you notice groups gathering at night, don't hesitate to call 911 for a faster response time. Please reach out to me with specific concerns.

Playground Reminders: After-School Hours
Our school playground is a cherished space for our entire community. During our Roar Care program hours (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM), all families and students are welcome to enjoy the area, provided we all work together to keep it safe.
Please be aware that our school programs have a priority right-of-use during this time to ensure they can operate safely and effectively. To support this, we ask all visitors to follow these conditions:
Supervision Required: Students not enrolled in Roar Care must be directly accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
Respecting the Program: Because Roar Care has priority use of the space, we ask visitors to yield to organized program activities or staff-led games.
Safe & Kind Behavior: All visitors are expected to follow our school’s standards for behavior. To maintain a safe environment for our enrolled students, Roar Care staff are authorized to request that a child and their guardian leave the property if behavior is unsafe or disruptive.
Shared Responsibility: By following these guidelines, you help us keep the playground open and safe for both our structured programs and our neighborhood families.
Thank you for your support and for helping us keep Roar Care, and the outside play spaces, a positive experience for our students!

SEVENTH/EIGHTH GRADE TRIP TO CAMP DUNCAN
THE 7TH GRADERS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A STOCK MARKET ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY AND IT HAS BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS. A FEW WEEKS AGO, A SPECIAL GUEST (MRS. JORGENSEN'S SON) GAVE A PRESENTATION TO THE STUDENTS, GIVING THEM A FOUNDATION IN STOCK MARKET BASICS. WEDNESDAY, THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A MOCK SIMULATION OF BUYING AND SELLING STOCKS. STUDENTS WERE BEYOND EXCITED AND WERE LITERALLY JUMPING OUT OF THEIR SEATS. THE WINNERS OF THE MOCK CHALLENGE WILL BE HEADING TO THE CHARLES SCHWAB OFFICE DOWNTOWN NEXT WEEK TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER SCHOOLS AND MEET THE EXECUTIVES.
