THE LIONS DEN
Schweitzer Newsletter February/March 2025
Dear Albert Schweitzer community,
February and March have been a flurry of events. SO MUCH happening at Schweitzer!
Friday, February 7th we celebrated National GO RED Day. Schweitzer wore red and donated to raise awareness for cardiovascular health and raise money for the America Heart Association. We raised $731 as a school community, our biggest fundraising efforts to date! Thank you to everyone that donated.
February the PTO also hosted the annual Sweetheart Dance. This is always a loved event at our school, and students and parents did not disappoint! DJ Milky Way led us with the beats as we danced the night away with a student and parent limbo contest, Selfie Stations, and snacks to keep everyone going. What a fun night!!
We also just hosted our Science Fair! What an amazing night for our elementary scientists and researchers! There were amazing projects shared, and we were excited to hear our students share about their scientific research and findings! We were thrilled to bring this event back!
Please mark your calendars for upcoming events. We also have PSSA assssments in April, so we're looking forward to seeing how our students perform on these upcoming assessments. THe PTO calendar is below along with the calendar for the PSSA. A seprate Lions Den newsletter will be coming out for 3rd and 4th graded parents with everything they need to know about the PSSA.
Take care,
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal

Read Across America Literacy Week
Neshaminy School Board members Erin Brosius and Carlos Rodriguez along with district Cabinet members, administrators, and over 20 Carl Sandburg students were Guest Readers at Albert Schweitzer Elementary School to celebrate their love for reading during Read Across America Literacy Week in early March. Students dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters, and guest readers brought their favorite books or chose from a selection of Dr. Seuss classics and read to every single homeroom in the school during these special visits. Carl Sandburg volunteers were performers from their ‘Beauty and the Beast’ play and came in costume to read. Students loved hearing about favorite books and authors of the Guest Readers, and it was wonderful to have alumni and representatives from across the district share in this special reading celebration!
Albert Schweitzer Sweetheart Dance
Students and their "Special Someone" danced the night away at the Albert Schweitzer Sweetheart Dance Friday, February 7th! Everyone came dressed to impress! There were selfie stations, teacher raffle baskets, and a 50/50, so thank you to everyone that participated and contributed back to our school. This year we also had an adult limbo contest and a Dance-Off with students and their Special Someone. It was great to see everyone enjoying time with each other and watching everyone get down with DJ Milky Way!
National GO RED Day Friday, February 7th
Albert Schweitzer is raised money for our annual GO RED fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Friday, February 7th was National GO RED Day! Students and staff wore red and donated $1-$5 for the cause. This year we raised $731, the highest amount to date. Thank you to everyone for your donations!
Honoring Rare Disease Day at Schweitzer
Thank you note from Mrs. Mitchell:
Dear Staff and Families of Schweitzer Elementary School,
I appreciate everyone’s very kind generosity with their donations for the 'Jeans for Genes' fundraiser on Rare Disease Day 2/28/25 in memory of my son Harrison. The total currently is at $791.45, including the online donations now that I have received from the NTSAD. This fundraiser was a wonderful way to raise awareness for Tay-Sachs Disease and the remaining Rare Diseases. The donations you have given will allow the NTSAD (National Tay-Sachs and Allied Disease Association) to give support to families that are or have been affected by rare diseases and advance research towards treatments. The NTSAD was helpful to us by supplying literature to further understand the road we were traveling with Harrison. Then, after Harrison got his angel wings we went to family conferences they organize to meet other families with affected children, sharing tips and making much needed connections with the bereaved families.
Thank you SO much for everything, it is very appreciated !
