Date Change: The date for our Meet the Teacher - Open House has been changed to Wednesday, September 11. We had to make this change due to the roof construction project timeline so that the project can proceed efficiently next week. We appreciate everyone's flexibility!

Meet the Teacher: On Wednesday evening, September 11th (the third week of school), we will host an Open House. We hope all parents and guardians can make it! This is a great time for parents/guardians to meet your child's teacher, learn about the school year, and find out more about how we can partner together in this important work. We'll start at 6:00pm by sharing information about our school-wide goals and the school year ahead, and then you can go to the classroom and meet your teacher.

Hello Lincoln Community,

What an incredible week and a reminder of the amazing community we have here at Lincoln! It was such a pleasure to have our students back in school this week. On the first day we connected our students with their teachers and classes and they started getting to know their classmates. Our students learned our school-wide expectations, practiced routines, and contributed to creating our classroom communities. Our priority this week has been relationship-building, helping students learn systems and routines, and creating a powerful start to our shared sense of belonging for the school year.

A Week of Learning: In classrooms, students have been learning about friendship, how to make friends and be a friend. In some classes they wrote about their summer and shared their writing with other students. They started math problem solving and developing math tools. They went to various parts of the school to learn specific expectations and what they can do to inspire others to honor our shared expectations. They went to music, PE, art, and library, and then we finished the week with a whole-school assembly where we kicked off the year, we nwatched a SlideShow full of student-pictures from this week, we danced, we learned how attendance matters, and we promoted our shared sense of belonging. It was an awesome start to the year!

For Open House - Plenty of Parking: Thank you to all of our parents and guardians for your partnership! We hope that all of you are able to attend our Open House - Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday, September 11, from 6:00 to 7:30. Parking will be available in the front parking lot, the backside of the school, the French Prairie MS parking lots, and across the street at the church. We'll start the evening by provided an overview of information and priorities for our school and school year, including Title 1A priorities, the parent-teacher compact, and more. Please come and join us!

Questions: Please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

After school each day, we encourage you to check in with your student to find out how it went. Some students are ready to talk right away, others may need a little time before they're ready. As a helpful guide, here are some questions you might consider, perhaps picking one or two each day.

  • What made you smile today?
  • What’s something new that you learned?
  • What was something interesting that happened?
  • Who is someone who helped you today?
  • What are you most proud of today?
  • What students did you spend time with today?
  • Who did you sit with during lunch?
  • What did you do during recess and who was with you?
  • What did you learn during (math, reading, etc.)?
  • What was the most difficult thing that happened today?
  • If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?
  • What’s something that you’re looking forward to getting to do tomorrow?

Emergency Drills - We Practice Regularly Emergency Drills - We Practice Regularly

Fire Drill: To be prepared in case of an emergency, throughout the year we practice our emergency drills. Our first Fire Drill will be on Wednesday next week, September 4. You may want to talk with your student about it ahead of time to help him or her to be ready. Here are some fire drill rules to share.

  • When you hear the fire alarm
  • STOP what you are doing
  • Line Up Quietly
  • WALK Out of the Building

Additionally, twice a year we practice Lockdown Drills and we also practice Earthquake Drills. We'll provide more specifics on these kinds of drills prior to our first ones of the year.
