"E" is for Engaged Learning!

Learning letters with hands-on fun! Some of Dorr Elementary’s Young Fives students practiced forming the letter “E” in sand, building early writing skills through a sensory activity.

From the Page to the Playground

Pine Street Elementary’s fourth graders celebrated the completion of their first reading unit with some friendly competition! After spending the past few weeks reading A Strong Right Arm: The Story of Mamie “Peanut” Johnson by Michelle Y. Green, students enjoyed kickball games between classes. The celebration was filled with teamwork, cheering, and plenty of fun as students supported their classmates on the field.

Exploring Davenport University

Wayland High School juniors and seniors explored opportunities for their future during a visit to Davenport University this week. Through a guided campus tour, students learned about academic programs, connected with university staff, and gained a closer look at college life and career preparation.

Experiences like this support our district’s commitment to helping every student prepare for life after high school. Thank you for representing Wayland Union Schools, Wildcats!

Building Math Skills, One Station at a Time

Ms. Kupres’ second graders began their math workshop rotations this week, working in groups based on their learning needs for the upcoming unit.

Students rotated through four stations:

  • Teacher table: Targeted instruction focused on readiness, extra practice, or enrichment.
  • Journal station: Guided work with Mrs. Holtz or Mrs. Dollarhide.
  • IXL: iPad practice aligned with specific lesson skills and standards.
  • Reflex Math: Practice building math fact fluency.

Each rotation lasted 12–15 minutes, keeping students engaged while providing the instruction and practice they needed to build their math skills.
