Principal's News

This week, we celebrated our wonderful 5th graders as they prepare to move on to middle school. Our 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony was a heartfelt event filled with fun, laughter, and a few happy tears. The ceremony included special awards and entertaining performances highlighting some of our student's most memorable moments at Martinson. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, resilience, and achievements, and we know they will continue to shine and make us proud.

Nurse's Notes

Seasonal Allergies: often called hay fever or allergic rhinitis, affect millions of children and adults each year. These allergies are triggered by airborne pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds during certain times of the year. Common symptoms include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, throat, or ears, and coughing. For students, these symptoms can impact concentration, attendance, and overall well-being. Stay informed about daily pollen levels through weather websites or apps.

Stay indoors during peak pollen times, usually early morning and windy days. Keep windows closed at home and in the car to prevent pollen from entering. Shower and change clothes after outdoor activities to remove pollen from hair and skin.

Hydration: Proper hydration helps regulate body temperature, maintain energy levels, and support overall bodily functions. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and more serious health issues such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Sun Safety: As the weather warms up, outdoor activities become more enticing. Remind your child to apply sunscreen before heading outside to protect against harmful UV rays. Encourage the use of hats and sunglasses for added protection, especially during peak sun hours.

If your child had any of the following symptoms today, please keep them home

  • Fever over 100 degrees (must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin to return to school)

  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school)

  • Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours

If you have any concerns about your child's health, or illnesses that may occur during the school year, please notify the school nurse at 781-319-3985.

Library News

This week in the library we read "The Sour Grape" written by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald. This humorous story helped to enrich our discussions of the importance of attempting to understand one another and accepting that nobody is perfect. We also spent some timesearching for any overdue library books in our lockers, desks, and at home.

I-Ready Reading family report (Grade 2-5)

Please find information on your child's Lexile level and Lexile range on the I- Ready reports sent home this week. Included is a website where you can search for books that would be appropriate for your child to read over the summer based on thier interests.

Please click here for the directions to find that level and assess the site!
