The Lynx Lowdown
The inside scoop on Forest Grove School
Lynx Leadership Message
Today was a very special day.
We welcomed several dignitaries at our school today for our official Forest Grove grand opening ceremony. Board Chair Holowaychuk along with several trustees, Superintendent Stoddard and several executive directors, MLA Honorable Nate Glubish and Mayor Rod Frank were some of the attendees of this formal event. We were presented with a plaque acknowledging the opening of the new school and heard many excellent speeches.
The highlight of the event was our Grade 6 students performing the world premiere of the original composition Forest Grove. We were so proud of our students who represented our school with beautiful singing voices, excellent instrumentals and respectful behaviour. The song gave us goosebumps and we are already planning on how we can perform it again for our parent community. With the beautiful music and heartfelt lyrics, this song is now part of our new legacy.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Making New Friends
Making friends is an important part of growing up. We often encourage students to make efforts to connect with a variety of different people, rather than sticking to only one person. Having a variety of friends can help kids feel safe even if their “regular person” is away that day, as well as build flexibility by learning how to navigate different personalities.
A few ways kids can make new connections:
- Join a club
- Join a team
- Help others
- Look for kids with common interests
- Invite someone who is alone to join you
- Share school supplies, items, etc.

Athletics Update
Our junior high volleyball teams are in full swing! We participated in over thirty volleyball games this week! We are cheering on our senior teams who are playing in a tournament this weekend at Bev Facey. We are pleased to share that Team Linkt is up and running.
In other sports news, our running club is meeting on Tuesdays and our students are practicing for cross country.
In our elementary world, our students will be starting swimming right away. You will likely have heard about your dates and times from your classroom teacher.
Terry Fox Assemblies and Run
We are excited to participate in our first ever Terry Fox run on Monday, September 21. We have been reminding our students about this important event all week in the morning announcements.
We will begin our event with a short assembly in the large gym where we will learn more about Terry Fox before we exit through the gym doors to being our walk or run. We will be following the paved paths on our grounds as shown in the image below with the yellow line. If you would like to join us on our run, please feel free to meet us there!
As a school of over 900 students, we have divided up our assembly and run into three rounds in the morning so that we can ensure everyone fits. What a great opportunity to build community between our elementary and junior high students where our older students can mentor the younger ones. Here is the order of our assemblies:
- Period 2 - Grades 2, 5 & 8
-
Period 3 - Grades K, 3, 6 & 9
Period 4 - Grade 1, 4 & 7
Finally, we do have a school donation page with the Terry Fox Foundation if you would like to make a donation online. Click here to go to our school donation page.
Logos Kick Off a Success
Our Logos students had a wonderful kick off event this week with Rizn youth group from Celebration Church. Youth leaders led the students in worship, games and connection. Students had fun from Grades 7 to 9.
Truth and Reconciliation in Action
Orange Shirt Day
On September 30, our school community will recognize Orange Shirt Day, a day to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and continue learning about the truth of Canada's history. The day is inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor whose new orange shirt, given to her by her grandmother, was taken away on her first day at residential school when she was six years old. Her story became a powerful symbol of the loss of culture, identity, and belonging experienced by many Indigenous children.
At school, we participate in Orange Shirt Day to help students develop understanding, empathy, and respect for Indigenous peoples and their experiences. Through age-appropriate learning activities and discussions, students learn about the lasting impacts of residential schools and the importance of truth and reconciliation. Wearing orange is a simple but meaningful way to show that Every Child Matters.
Families are encouraged to continue these conversations at home. To learn more, we invite you to watch Phyllis Webstad's short video sharing her story and the origins of Orange Shirt Day:

Thank you for supporting our efforts to create a caring, inclusive learning community where we honour the message that Every Child Matters.
