Boulevard Weekly Update
Week of Monday, August 31st- Friday, September 4th, 2026
Principal's Corner
📣 Families! Here's What's Happening This Week:
Boulevard Families,
As we wrap up another week of learning, we want to give you a glimpse into what our scholars are learning across grade levels. Take a look at the highlights below to see the skills and concepts your child is working on in the classroom.
📚 Kindergarten Learning Spotlight
Our kindergarten scholars are building important early literacy, listening, speaking, and social-emotional learning skills! Through engaging read-alouds such as The Very Lonely Firefly and The Grouchy Ladybug, students are learning to pay attention to authors, illustrations, characters, story elements, and events in a story. They are also practicing making predictions, asking questions, making
Students are developing classroom routines that support learning, including whole-body listening, following multi-step directions, participating in turn-and-talks, and preparing to complete independent work. We are especially encouraging our kindergarten scholars to think, talk, listen, and explain their ideas.
🏠 Family Tip
Ask your kindergartener about the books they are reading at school. Try questions such as:
Who is the author?
What do you notice in the illustrations?
What happened in the story?
How did the character feel?
What would you do if you were the character?
Can you tell me why you think that?
When your child shares an answer, encourage them to explain their thinking. These simple conversations help build vocabulary, comprehension, speaking, and listening skills while strengthening the connection between school and home.
📚 Second Grade Phonics: Building Strong Readers
Our second graders are strengthening their phonics skills by reviewing short-vowel sounds in closed words. Students are learning to listen for each sound, connect sounds to letters, blend sounds, and use these skills to read unfamiliar words.
. We want our scholars to understand that practicing phonics helps them become stronger, more confident readers who can figure out words they may not have seen before.
🏠 Family Tip: Practice Words in Everyday Moments
You can support your child by spending just 5 minutes a day practicing sounds and words.
Try this:
Choose a short-vowel word such as cat, bed, sit, hot, or sun.
Have your child stretch the word and say each sound.
Ask your child to blend the sounds to read the word.
Ask, “What vowel do you hear? What sound does it make?”
4th Grade
Fourth-grade students were engaged in vocabulary learning through discussion, questioning, and partner talk. Students made meaningful connections between vocabulary words such as hesitate, humiliated, and inspiration and their own experiences
🏠 Family Tip: Practice: Choose one new word each day. Discuss its meaning, find a synonym or antonym, and use it in a conversation. The more children hear, discuss, and use new words, the stronger their vocabulary becomes!

Homework
Homework is an opportunity for students to practice skills and concepts they have already learned in school. It is not intended to introduce new learning or create frustration at home.
Please remember:
- Homework is not graded.
- Students should be able to complete homework with minimal adult support.
- Families should encourage, ask questions, and provide support—but students should do their own work.
- If your child is unable to complete the assignment with minimal support, please stop and send the homework back to school. Use ClassDojo to let the teacher know that your child needs additional support.
Why Homework Matters
Purposeful practice helps our scholars build:
independence, persistence, responsibility, confidence, and time-management skills. These habits prepare students for success not only in elementary school, but throughout their educational journey.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our scholars become confident, independent, and persistent learners.
1person 1% better every day!
