Arrival Reminders
Thank you for helping make our arrival routine run smoothly! A couple of important reminders:
Car riders must be dropped off and picked up on Oakview Road, not Fifth Avenue. For the safety of our students, we ask that you do not use the front of the school for car rider drop-off.
U-turns on Oakview are only allowed at the second loop.
Following these guidelines helps ensure the safety of all our students. We appreciate your cooperation!
Lost and Found
Missing a sweatshirt, a nice sweater, or a fancy water bottle? Chances are, it's waiting for you in our Lost and Found! We currently have more than 40 items that we hope to reunite with their owners. Please stop by and take a look to see if any of these items belong to your child.
Important reminder: Any items remaining unclaimed after Friday, October 23, will be donated or find a new home. Let's help these belongings find their way back to their owners!
Dyslexia Awareness Month
Dyslexia Awareness Month is observed in October annually to increase understanding, foster inclusion, and advocate for individuals with dyslexia. City Schools of Decatur invited students to submit artwork showcasing empathy, inclusion, and the unique ways a neurodiverse brain sees the world. Every piece submitted was inspiring, and we are proud of our F.Ave. participants for their thoughtful engagement in promoting dyslexia awareness and for sharing their artistic talents.
Student Art Submissions:

Reading Bowl!
Attention 4th and 5th Graders! Do you love to read and love a competition?! Consider joining the Reading Bowl team with Ms. Stewart and Ms. Weaver! We will meet every other Thursday from 2:30-3:15PM, with our first meeting next Thursday, October 22nd. You will be required to read 10 books by the end of December and attend the competition in February. If you are interested, read this letter for all the information!
BASC-BESS Universal Screener
The City Schools of Decatur will administer the BASC-BESS Universal Screener from October 1–30, 2026. This brief screener helps schools identify students who may benefit from additional behavioral, social-emotional, or wellness support. The BASC-BESS is not a diagnostic assessment; it is one tool used to help us identify needs early and provide appropriate support.
📚SAVE THE DATE📚
Scholastic Book Fair opens on October 30th! Be on the lookout for more information on how to volunteer and support our school!

10/15-23: F.AVE READ-A-THON STARTS TODAY!
F.AVE Read-a-Thon 2026 runs October 15–23! Classrooms compete to see who reads the most, and it’s also a PTO fundraiser. Reading logs went home today, so please check backpacks.
Goals
Reading: we suggest 100+ minutes (about 15 min/day).
Fundraising (optional): we suggest $100. Create a donation page here:https://go.shopmy.us/p-94151984. Kalli Lamkin will email you your unique link, where you can update your goal or photo. The page accepts credit cards, PayPal, and Google Pay.
Checks payable to “F.AVE PTO” can be sent in with the reading log.
How it works
Any reading outside of school counts, whether you read to them, with them, or they read on their own.
Send reading logs back on Monday 10/19 and Friday 10/23.
We need a few volunteers to count minutes: https://go.shopmy.us/p-94152118
Prizes
The top class in each grade wins a trophy and a popsicle party.
Winners will be announced Friday, Oct 23.
Thanks for participating!
