Deer Hill Spring Concert: Our annual Spring Concert is next Thursday, May 29, at 2:15 pm! Students that participate in chorus (grades 3,4,& 5) and band (grades 4 & 5) will be performing. Audience members should plan to enter the building through the side doors located near the gymnasium.
Elementary Literacy Dialogue: The Cohasset Public Schools is hosting a Literacy Dialogue about the Elementary Comprehensive Literacy Approach on June 4th at 4:30pm in the Learning Commons at the Middle High School (143 Pond St.). We invite parents and guardians with students in Prk-5 to join us. Please RSVP using this link by May 30th. We look forward to meeting with you.
Bike to School with Mr. You: Pump up your tires, grab your helmet, and practice that steep Sohier St. hill -- June 3rd is our 2nd annual Bike to School with Mr. You morning! We'll meet at the Town Common at 8:30 and will enjoy a community bike ride to school. Last year we had over 100 students participate!
2025-2026 Band & Chorus Program: Starting this fall, we’re excited to offer our students more opportunities to explore their musical talents! All students in grades 4 and 5 will participate in either chorus, band, or both, allowing them to follow their individual interests and grow as young musicians. All 3rd graders will take part in chorus, building a strong foundation in singing and performance. We’re looking forward to a fun and music-filled year!

Deer Hill Happenings
CEF Spelling Bee: What a fabulous spelling bee! We had high participation in all grades with such talented spellers throughout. Congratulations to our winners, 2nd place finishers, and all who joined the fun! Many thanks to our CEF for hosting this event and to our staff members (school committee members, too!) who donated their time as emcees, judges, and timekeepers.
Isabella Stewart Gardner Heist: Grade 4 was treated to a presentation by Ms. Parrell's dad, Stephen Kurkjian, a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist who covered this gripping event in Boston history!
Academic Showcases at Deer Hill: Each year every class and/or grade level provides at least one opportunity for families to visit school and celebrate the academic accomplishments of our students. From Math Mornings to Mystery presentations to everything in between, students love to show what they've learned. This week Mrs. Frasier invited families in for her class's Writing Showcase and the 5th Grade Showcase highlighted students' capstone research projects -- such a wide variety of topics and questions!
Grade 3 Science Innovator Day: After spending the week learning about climate and weather, grade 3 students enjoyed their third Science Innovator Day. Rotating through all six third grade classrooms, they learned about different climate zones, the differences between weather and climate, and the concept of climate change.

Hugo on Instagram: Keep up with Hugo's adventures on his Instagram account, @Hugo.Dogberry
One Year and Counting! One year ago, Hugo made his very first visit to Deer Hill during our staff professional development day and had a photo op with the 3rd grade team. One year later and it's another professional development day and another photo op with 3rd grade -- look how he's grown!
CPS Purposeful Play & Risk Challenge
Each month Superintendent Shannon includes a suggestion for purposeful play and developmentally appropriate risk. Here is the May challenge!
Keeping up with our Anxious Generation purposeful play and responsible risk taking challenges, I am inviting you to join in on our May activities. This month, our challenges are:
Purposeful Play Challenge
Let's get creative this month! May is here and so are the flowers and planting season. Plant a garden together. Build the plan, head to the store together to pick out what you're going to plant, get messy in the dirt as you dig, and then watch as what you did together grows. Celebrate your success. Bonus points if you plant a new fruit or vegetable that your child tries as a new food once it's planted!
Responsible Risk Taking Challenge
This month let your child plan a solo adventure within safe boundaries according to their age. Let your child walk to a neighbor’s house, deliver a letter to the mailbox by themselves, ride their bike to somewhere of their choice, or stay home alone. Independence builds confidence!
