MAY 2026 - Virtue of ACCEPTANCE
"If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honoured, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."
~ 1 Corinthians 12:26-27
Acceptance is the ability to respect the dignity and rights of all persons, even those whose beliefs and behaviours differ from our own.
God wants us to make friends with everyone no matter how different they may look or act. Everyone should strive to love and respect their neighbour, as they love and respect themselves.
During the month of MAY, we focus on the virtue of Acceptance.
From the perspective of the Catholic Expectations, an accepting person...
- Finds meaning, dignity fulfillment and vocation in work which contributes to the common good
- Witnesses Catholic social teaching by promoting equality, democracy, and solidarity for a just, peaceful and compassionate society
- Respects and affirms the diversity and interdependence of the world’s peoples and cultures
- Respects and understands the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today’s contemporary society

2026 CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK PROVINCIAL THEME SONG
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The month of May in Ontario begins with Catholic Education Week from May 3 to 8, 2026, giving us an opportunity to reflect on the importance of Faith in our lives and this year's theme: “Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness.” Please refer to the Catholic Education Week information below. We welcome our newest community members during our Journey Into Learning evening on Tuesday May 5th, as we meet the newly registered JK students who will join our school in September. We welcome all parents/guardians to come and see students shine at our school Talent Show on May 6th and 7th. TIckets are still available.
Our community celebrates many May milestones, including our Grade 8 students going on their overnight trip to Ottawa, and our Grade 2 students who will receive the Blessed Sacrament of First Holy Communion. May God bless all mothers and mother figures in our lives, as we celebrate Mothers' Day this month.
We are pleased to welcome back our Vice Principal, Ms. Allegretti, and thank Ms. Aguilar for supporting our students, staff and community during her absence.
St. Timothy CES continues to be a safe, inclusive, and vibrant place to learn, grow and play, as we Cooperate, Educate and Celebrate. We are called to ever be mindful of our countless blessings, to be faithful to the love of God, and to increase trust in the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thank you for choosing Catholic Education.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK: May 3-8, 2026
This year’s Catholic Education theme is: “Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness” and is being recognized in the province of Ontario during the week of May 3-8, 2026.
Our lives as Christians are truly a path toward holiness – becoming, more and more, the people God created us to be. That will look different in each of our lives, but for all of us, we know that it is God’s Spirit at work in us who guides us toward holiness. The Holy Spirit inspires the light of hope and keeps that light burning, like an ever-burning lamp, to sustain and invigorate our lives.
Dufferin-Peel CDSB and our school celebrates the Catholic Education Week theme and sub-themes throughout the school year:
- Day 1: Peace be with you
- Day 2: God loves you
- Day 3: Christ saves you
- Day 4: The Holy Spirit lives in you
- Day 5: Together on the journey
At St. Timothy CES, students participate in activities which demonstrate how we are being Pilgrims of Hope together.
MAY IS THE MONTH OF MARY
May is the month we dedicate to Mary, the mother of our Saviour, Jesus. We celebrate Mary, who humbly and gladly accepted God’s will when she said “Yes” to our Lord. As we honour Mary and all mothers, we are reminded of the many blessings that mothers bestow upon their children each and every day. Let us keep Mary and all mothers in our thoughts and prayers so that the love, respect and admiration that they deserve is not limited to one day or month in the year.
Blessed Mother Mary,
We thank You for all mothers around the world,
and for all they do for their children.
We thank You for their patience when we don’t get things right.
We thank You for their encouragement when we find life challenging.
We pray that on Mother’s Day and every day,
that You guide us to show them
as much love, care, and joy as they give to us.
+ AMEN.
In the Catholic tradition, May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, a custom that honours her as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church. This month-long devotion, which often includes crowning her statues with flowers and praying the Rosary, highlights her role in salvation history and welcomes the spring season as a symbol of new life.
CLASS PLACEMENTS
We will soon begin the process of making class lists for the 2026-2027 school year.. This procedure takes into consideration not only the needs of the individual child, but frames those needs in the context of the larger classroom group dynamics. In each class, we strive for balance of learning styles, gender, learning needs and a cross-section of abilities. Current homeroom teachers, support staff and administration collaborate in the process.
If you as a parent/guardian wish to provide input, please take into consideration the following guidelines: Input must be put in writing and submitted to Ms. Masucci no later than May 8th, 2026. You may send a message to our school’s general InfoBox at St.TimothyInfo@dpcdsb.org or send a letter to the office with your child. The school will not accept letters after this date, and this includes summer months/September. Please submit requests in terms of educational contexts (e.g. your child's learning needs/strengths/style, peer relationships, information not already known to the school, preferred learning environment, etc.) Please do not make requests for specific teachers since staffing is always tentative and changes may occur after school begins in September when school organization and staffing are finalized.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
We ask any family who will be moving out of St. Timothy's school catchment area for the 2026-2027 school year to please notify the office in writing. We will be projecting student enrollment for September 2026 and having this information assists us in being more accurate with our projection. Your assistance with this information is greatly appreciated as school organization changes with enrollment at each grade level.
Even if a family moves and remains in the school's boundaries, please inform the school of any change of address as it is important that school records are accurate

+ + + + + + + STATIONS OF THE CROSS + + + + + + +
During the holy season of Lent, Grades 5 and 6 brought the Stations of the Cross to life in a powerful, prayerful, and moving liturgical re-enactment. Through a series of living statues—representing each of the 14 moments of Jesus’ journey to Calvary—students led the entire school community to pause, reflect, and deepen their understanding of Christ’s sacrifice.
The reverence shown by our student actors was truly profound, transforming the gym into a sacred space. By portraying moments of compassion, suffering, and hope, they allowed us to walk alongside Jesus. A special thank you Ms. Murphy and Ms. Zivi whose students organized this event, reminding us that we are not meant to carry our crosses alone.
DONATIONS FOR DR. SIMONE'S CANADIAN FOOD FOR CHILDREN
THANK YOU to all the families who generously donated soap, salt and candles throughout the season of Lent, as part of our almsgiving collection to help us reflect on kindness, compassion, and caring for others. By collecting these simple items, we learned that even small acts of giving can make a big difference in someone’s life. Dr. Andrew Simone, the founder of the charity, Canadian Food for Children, will ensure that these items are directed to those in need. Special thanks to Mr. Borrelli's Grade 4 class for organizing this Lenten drive.
🎤 JUNIOR / INTERMEDIATE SPEECHES
On April 8th, our Junior and Intermediate students proudly participated in the St. Timothy Speech Competition, and what an exciting day it was! Sixteen students were selected to represent their classes, and they did an outstanding job sharing their voices and ideas with confidence. We enjoyed a wide variety of engaging and interesting speeches.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated. Your hard work and dedication truly shone and you should be very proud of your accomplishments!
A special congratulations goes out to Milania R. and Mariah W., who advanced to the Mississauga South Family of Schools Speech Competition. Although they did not place in the finals amongst the 26 schools in the Family , they represented St. Timothy with positivity, dedication, and confidence. Well done! We are so proud of all our students for sharing their voices. Keep speaking up, St. Timothy! 👏
CHESS TOURNAMENT
♜ ♞ ♝ ♛ ♚ ♝ ♞ ♜
We congratulate our Primary, Junior, and Intermediate Chess Teams on their participation in the Mississauga South Family of Schools Chess Tournament on Thursday, April 23rd. All of our players represented the school with great pride, and they are to be commended for their dedication, fair play, and support of one another. It was truly inspiring to see the passion, focus, and sportsmanship demonstrated by all of our team members throughout the day.
Honourable mention goes out to our Primary Chess Team for placing 3rd overall – this was the first time we placed in primary division! Coaches Mr. Allen and Ms. Jach helped to create such a positive and engaging experience for everyone involved and are so proud of each team player.
🏀 INTERMEDIATE BASKETBALL 🏀
The Intermediate Girls' Basketball team competed in the Mississauga South Pod Tournament on Tuesday April 21st at St. Christopher School. The girls put forth excellent effort and played very well in all of their games. They won their first two games and then had to play a final game to determine second place. The game was intense as all teammates fought hard and shot baskets. The girls eventually lost the final game with a score of 16-13. They showed great team spirit and held their heads up high! The Intermediate Boys' Basketball team played in their pod hosted at our school. They demonstrated skill, teamwork, and perseverance, though faced tough competition, and did not advance to the finals even with their excellent efforts. Way to go, Titans! Thank you to Ms. Gdyczynski for coaching the girls' team, and to Ms. Zivkovic for coaching the boys' basketball team.
🎭🎵🎹🎤 TALENT SHOWCASE 🎸💃🕺🤸🏻♂️🤹

After months of dedicated rehearsals during lunches and twice-weekly after-school, our students are ready to dazzle you with incredible singing, energetic dancing, acting, and much more. Following the inspiration of Matthew 5:14-16, 'You are the light of the world, you are the salt of the earth', this show is a celebration of the unique talents and bright spirits within our school community. Ms. Feather, Ms. Gdyczynski, Ms. Mouchian, Ms. Murphy, Ms. Sadowski, and Ms. Zivkovic are so proud of the achievements of the students who are courageously performing on-stage and those working tirelessly behind the scenes as crew members.
Tickets are $5 and available through SchoolCashOnline.
Don't miss this unforgettable evening of creativity and joy!
📜SHARING JOY ACROSS THE MILES
This spring, St. Timothy School participated in a letter‑writing initiative for seniors. More than 300 handwritten letters and cards were created and mailed to senior citizens across Canada — from the coastlines of British Columbia all the way to the shores of Prince Edward Island. A bundle of cards even crossed the Atlantic Ocean and arrived at a nursing home in the United Kingdom. Each card and letter shared a kind word, a drawing, a story, a message of hope, even birthday wishes. Together, students and staff brightened the days of seniors who may not often receive personal mail, reminding them that they are remembered, valued, and connected.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. Your kindness lifted spirits and made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many senior citizens.
Special thanks also to Ms. Zabukovec for her compassion and passion for this community project.
WELL-BEING & MENTAL HEALTH
This month, we focused on supporting student health and well‑being through meaningful and engaging activities. Students enjoyed a relaxing Spa Day, where they participated in gentle stretching, creative painting, and colouring activities designed to promote calm and self‑expression led by our "Care Bears." As part of this experience, students collaborated to create a painted quilt, which is now proudly displayed on the wall as a symbol of creativity, connection, and community. We also practiced Christian mindful meditation on Mondays led by our Wellness Team Leaders on the P.A., to help students build awareness, focus, and emotional regulation. In addition, our Health and Wellness Team proudly supported Earth Week, encouraging connections between personal well‑being and caring for our planet. Thank you to Ms. Pinto-Badia and Ms. Martins for highlighting the importance of mental health and well-being in our school.
ECO SCHOOL NEWS 🌍
Earth Week, held from April 20-24, was a wonderful celebration of environmental awareness and community spirit. Classes participated in engaging BINGO card activities, explored meaningful ways to care for our planet and took learning outside. Many students donated books for our upcoming Used Book Sale. THANK YOU to all who contributed!
The month of May brings a “Lights Out” Challenge - stay tuned! Thank you, Ms. Kontostergios, Ms. Martins and Ms. Smutnicki for leading the students involved in the EcoTeam and the whole school in our Earth Month, Earth Week and year-round initiatives. St. Timothy CES is ranked as a Platinum School based on Ontario EcoSchools rating scales! Go GREEN!
📚 Used Book Sale: April 30 and May 1 📚
THANK YOU to all families who donated books for the success of our annual Used Book Sale! Don't forget to bring your quarters, loonies, and toonies to buy books for 50 cents.
KUNE MUSICAL PRESENTATION
On Friday, April 24th, the students in Grades 1-5 had the pleasure of experiencing a performance by the KUNE musicians. The KUNE musicians are a collective of immigrant and Indigenous musicians, who bring lived experience into educational spaces. During the performance, the KUNE musicians introduced many instruments, rhythms, and musical traditions from around the world in an accessible way. The performance was interactive and engaging, inviting students to participate through movement, call-and-response, and active listening. The session encouraged curiosity, creativity, and respect for diverse cultural expressions.
Students encountered artists whose stories and cultural backgrounds reflect the diversity of their communities, fostering a sense of belonging and representation. Thank you to Ms. Iarossi for organizing the enjoyable educational and musical experience.
MAY 13: ALECTRA UTILITIES PRESENTATIONS FOR K-8
ELECTRICITY SAFETY & CONSERVATION
The program is designed for two age groups: JK-grade 3 and grades 4-8. The students in grades JK-3 will meet “Wires” the safety puppet and learn 15-20 safety & conservation messages that they can take home to their parents. The students also receive a word search & colouring sheet of “Wires”.
The grade 4-8 presentation will explore electricity safety & conservation issues in more detail. Topics include: electrical hazards in the home, the dangers within electrical substations, and what to do if they are in a car accident involving a utility pole and power line. Presenters will also talk about challenges and dares that students may have with each other, and explain different kinds of energy, the costs and where they might come from. Students will be shown different items in the home that consume energy when not in use, and how this can be avoided. Refer to the attachment for more information.
EDUCATION QUALITY AND ASSESSMENT OFFICE (E.Q.A.O.) - GRADES 3 & 6
At St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School, we understand that the purpose of the EQAO assessment is to promote academic excellence and improvement in student achievement throughout all schools in our province. As educators, we respond to our EQAO results with appropriate accountability, integrity and due diligence. As a Catholic school and as Catholic educators, however, we are called to respond in a distinctive manner for we believe that our students are described not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but also in terms of values, attitudes and actions. When we encourage our students to utilize all of their God-given gifts to the best of their ability, we are fostering an environment of servitude and promoting the understanding that we are loved and valued as children of God because of who we are rather than how we perform and what we produce.
📌MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the Math and Language provincial assessments during the last week of May and the first week of June. It is important for students to be in attendance at school during assessment dates; we ask that families do not schedule any vacation during this period.
The types of questions included in the EQAO e-assessment will be familiar to our students as they are based on the work they have been doing throughout the year. Sample assessments are available on the EQAO website for Grade 3 students and for Grade 6 students.
The EQAO assessment results help us to continue to improve upon the quality Catholic education offered to your children. For more information please visit here.

STUDENT STRATEGIES
T.H.I.N.K.
T. H.I.N.K. before you speak, write, or post!
T - is it True?
H - is it Helpful?
I - is it Inspiring?
N - is it Necessary?
K - is it Kind?
The students at St. Timothy School are taking a stance and THINKING before they speak. Please use these strategies at home, as to support the learning at school. Together we continue to support student well-being and model the virtues of our faith.
W.W.J.D.
WWJD is a popular acronym that is a simple yet powerful reminder to always act with love, compassion, and kindness toward others.
The idea behind it is that anytime you encounter a situation, you are to ask yourself, What Would Jesus Do? Then, that is what you are supposed to do.
So next time you’re faced with a difficult decision or encounter someone who may not see eye-to-eye with you, remember WWJD. Let’s choose love over hate and understanding over division. Together, let’s make this world a better place one small action at a time – and treat others as Jesus would and as we would want to be treated!
W. I. T. S.
The WITS program is how students at St. Timothy School are learning to solve problems in class and outside at recess. This program helps resolve and de-escalate problems before they become more severe. Staff continue to model these problem-solving strategies on a regular basis.
📌 PARENT REMINDERS
SCHOOL TRAFFIC AND PARKING LOT SAFETY
To keep everyone safe, always obey posted signs and speed limits, yield to pedestrians, and have children exit the vehicle on the passenger side only.
School parking lots are high-traffic areas that require extra vigilance from drivers, parents, and students alike. Below are key safety reminders organized to help ensure a smooth and secure drop-off or pick-up experience.
For Drivers & Parents
- Follow Traffic Patterns: Always travel in the designated directions and lanes i.e. Kiss and Ride or Drive Thru lanes. Going the wrong way can cause accidents because other drivers may not be looking for you.
- Passenger-Side Exit: Ensure children exit the vehicle on the walkway side (passenger side) to avoid stepping into traffic.
- Observe Speed Limits: Adhere to all posted limits, which are often as low as 10 mph in school zones.
- No Unattended Vehicles: Do not park or leave your vehicle in drop-off/pick-up lanes. If you must leave your car, use an appropriate parking spot.
- Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like cell phones. Watch for crossing guards, staff members, and students.
- Arrive Early or Late: Consider adjusting your arrival time by 5–10 minutes to avoid the peak congestion rush.
For Students & Pedestrians
- Hold Hands: Younger children should always hold an adult's hand while walking through the lot.
- Stay Visible: Avoid standing in blind spots behind vehicles where drivers cannot see you.
- Use Designated Crossings: Only cross the lot at marked crosswalks and obey all crossing guards.
- Be Aware: Always look both ways before stepping out and make sure drivers are aware of your presence.
- Follow Supervision: Always follow the directions of crossing guards and teachers on duty.
VOLUNTEERS - CBC with VSS
Attention to Parent Volunteers - TRIPS, SCHOOL EVENTS, etc.
Here is a great chance to help out at the school. A Criminal Background Check (CBC) is required for all volunteers (Annual Declarations for existing Volunteers).
Criminal Background Check must be with a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) - Level 3.
There are a number of field trips planned for the remaining two months of school. If you wish to accompany your child on a field trip as a supervisor or volunteer at the school, it is advisable to get your CBC-VSS early, as there is a processing time.
A letter may be obtained from the school to indicate that you are volunteering at St. Timothy C.E.S
CHILD SAFETY
The Child and Family Services Act compels educators to report any issues that may compromise a child’s welfare. If a staff member suspects any issue that may affect a child’s safety, then they have a duty to report to the Children’s Aid Society (CAS). It is not the role of the educator to investigate. That is the role of CAS as they deem appropriate.
CUSTODY OF CHILDREN
On occasion, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit with their child or take their child out of school. In order to assist us in making correct decisions in order to serve and protect each child, we ask that you make the office aware of any legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions that have been agreed upon. Please note that we require legal documentation of these arrangements, not merely a note from a parent.
ALLERGY ALERT
Some of the students in our school have severe life threatening allergic reactions to tree nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut by-products. For some children, even the smell of nuts or trace amounts of oil can bring on a severe attack. We need your cooperation! We kindly ask that you DO NOT send snacks to school that contain nuts or any nut products.
Please note that to ensure the continued safety of all students, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board with the support of the Anaphylactic Society and the Peel Health Department has recommended that students not bring peanut butter alternatives (e.g. Wow butter, soy butter, sunflower butter) to school. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting student safety.
*** Please do not send any snacks or food items for special occasions ***
(e.g. Birthdays, Hallowe'en, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc.). They will be sent home with your child.
Non-edible items (e.g. pencils, stickers, etc.) are accepted but not necessary.
HEAD INJURY PROTOCOL
When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however minor), it is Board Policy that we inform parents. This is precautionary only, and we request that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. A brochure containing information about concussions is also available. Again, this is a precautionary measure and for informational purpose.
Click the LINK below for more information.
ATTENDANCE and Safe Arrival: School Messenger
Whether it’s a medical appointment, an illness or other important event, there are times when students may need to be away from school. Using the SafeArrival system, parents will be able to report daily or future absences in one of three ways:
Web: Go to the SafeArrival website at go.schoolmessenger.ca
App: Download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Please note that SafeArrival uses the SchoolMessenger app.
Phone: Call the toll-free number 1-844-435-3440
Parents self-reporting their child's absence reduces the calls to the office for the parent, and the calls to the office from the school. Your support is appreciated.
DPCDSB INFORMATION - FROM THE BOARD

PEEL PUBLIC HEALTH
TICKS / LYME DISEASE AWARENESS
With the arrival of warmer temperatures and more time spent outdoors, we wanted to remind you how to protect yourself and your loved ones from Blacklegged Ticks, which are native to our region, live in wooded areas, tall grasses and bushes, and may carry Lyme Disease.
In this regard, we encourage you to read the attached fact sheet from Health Ontario, MOH Fact Sheet: Ticks and Lyme Disease, which indicates how to prevent tick bites when outdoors.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
PEDICULOSIS (Head Lice)
A problem which occurs from time to time in schools is an infestation of head lice also known as Pediculosis. Pediculosis is in no way connected with poor hygiene or dirt. Anyone can become infested. If a case of pediculosis is found in a classroom, the school will inform the parents of that class. If your child(ren) becomes infested by head lice, we request that you keep them home from school until after they have been treated with the correct treatment solution, and their hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits (eggs). Encourage your child(ren) not to share headwear, combs or brushes and check their hair periodically.
There is additional information on the Canadian Paediatric Society website or you may contact Health Line Peel at: 905-799-7700. Even if we all cooperate in these procedures, pediculosis may still occur, although there is a better opportunity to keep it under control. Information on head lice may also be obtained from your family doctor or pharmacist.
