Dear Families,

We’ve had such a strong start to the school year, and I’m grateful for the teamwork and positive energy from both staff and students. These first weeks are all about building routines, setting expectations, and making sure every child feels safe, welcomed, and ready to learn. By taking the time now to establish strong foundations, we know our students will thrive as the year moves forward.

Part of that foundation includes focusing on clear communication and safety. I want to take a moment to reiterate our dismissal change policy: all dismissal changes must be made before 2:00 p.m. This is not a new policy, but increased attention is being brought to it as we work to streamline our dismissal process and ensure every student gets home safely and on time.

We need your help with this. Please be proactive by sending a note or making a phone call early in the day if a dismissal change is needed. We also strongly encourage families to stick with regular dismissal routines whenever possible, as this reduces confusion and stress for both students and staff.

If a dismissal change is absolutely necessary after 2:00, we may ask that families make arrangements for their child to be picked up early instead of adjusting the normal 3:35 dismissal routine.

Thank you for supporting us in this effort. Together, we can ensure that dismissal is a safe, smooth, and stress-free time of day for everyone.

With appreciation,
Dr. Jacob

The first weeks of school have been filled with teamwork, growth, and strong beginnings here at MCE!

New Faces & Familiar Friends New Faces & Familiar Friends

Thank you for the fantastic turnout at our Meet & Greet event! It was wonderful to see so many familiar families back in the building and to welcome new faces to our Wildcat community. Both our new and veteran teachers enjoyed connecting with families, building relationships, and setting the stage for a strong year together. The buzz of our students and families is exactly what the school misses during the summer months, and it set such a positive tone for the year ahead.

Moments like these remind us of our mission of “Developing life long learners through positive collaboration.”

Our staff has been working closely together to ensure every child feels supported and successful. Collaboration has been at the heart of this strong start and will continue to guide our work throughout the year. Right now, we are still looking to add more paraprofessionals to our team. Paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting classrooms, teachers, and students each day. If you or someone you know may be interested, please encourage them to apply — we’d love to welcome more helping hands into our Wildcat family!

Collaboration with staff, families, and our community helps us continue developing life long learners through positive collaboration.

During these first weeks of school, our teachers have been focusing on teaching classroom expectations and daily routines. While this may feel like a slower start, it is one of the most important steps of the school year. By investing time now, students gain confidence and independence, and learning can move forward more smoothly as the year continues.

Thank you, families, for reinforcing these expectations at home. Your partnership, combined with the collaboration happening among our staff, sets the stage for students to grow, succeed, and thrive together.

What's Coming Up at MCE? What's Coming Up at MCE?

Beginning of the Year Assessments Beginning of the Year Assessments

At the start of each school year, students in grades K–5 take part in assessments that help us understand their strengths and needs. These assessments guide teachers in planning instruction and ensuring that every child gets the support they need to grow.

Students in 1st through 5th grade will be completing the i-Ready Diagnostic in the upcoming weeks. This assessment provides valuable information in reading and math and helps us track growth across the year.

For our kindergarten students, the district uses the Kindergarten Observation Form (KOF) as part of a statewide initiative. The KOF is designed to evaluate the readiness of incoming kindergarteners across several important developmental domains, giving us valuable insight into how we can best support each child’s transition into school.

In the effort to be transparent, we want families to know that these assessments may also be used to help identify students who could benefit from additional math or reading interventions. Please remember, these assessments are not about labeling students but about giving teachers the best tools to help every child succeed.

Wednesday, September 3rd Wednesday, September 3rd

On Wednesday, September 3, students are invited to bring $1 and wear a hat all day. The money collected will go toward a charity of the Student Council’s choosing, which will be determined for the 2025–26 school year. This is a fun way for students to give back while showing their school spirit!

Get Involved at MCE! Get Involved at MCE!

We are always excited to welcome family and community members who want to get involved at MCE! Whether it’s helping in the library, supporting student activities, or assisting with special programs, volunteers make a real difference for our Wildcats. See the flyers below for additional details. If you’re interested in sharing your time and talents, please reach out to Ms. Taylor at tcowden@mc-wildcats.org or Mrs. Polston at tpolston@mc-wildcats.org for more information. For the safety of our students, all volunteers complete a simple background check as part of the process.
