What Do You Need?

Thank you for sending in your questions and requests!

A request was received for "resources for push-in language therapy with ECSE students".

A great way to begin diving into this request is to explore the many ways SLPs can support students in the classroom setting through push-in or in-class service delivery models. Carrie Clark, founder of speechandlanguagekids.com presents 9 different models of push-in therapy in her 15 minute YouTube video. ASHA also defines different types of in-class/integrated models on their School-Based Service Delivery web page. ASHA provides evidence-based practice articles documenting different service delivery models and approaches. ASHA and Carrie Clark may call the models by slightly different names; however, by reviewing these resources you can see the variety of ways SLPs can support students in the classroom. After you determine what type of push-in therapy strategy might be most appropriate for your student(s), then you can tailor the activities accordingly.

District Spotlight! District Spotlight!

Spotlight: Richardson ISD Speech-Language Pathology Team!

This month we are spotlighting Richardson ISD and their amazing SLP team. The RISD SLPs serve 54 campuses that consist of 6 high schools, 8 jr high schools, and 41 elementary schools. RISD's leadership team consists of a Director, SLP Coordinator, and 4 SLP Leads who supervise and lead 76 SLPs. The team utilizes a workload approach and a supervision tool that is tailored specifically to SLPs.

RISD SLPs have developed a set of group values called SHINE that they desire all of the SLPs to embrace. Check out the shiny happy visual below that expands on the SHINE values...

RISD also provides collaboration opportunities through Professional Learning Communities in which SLPs work together to produce "products" that will benefit staff. Some of the products include Speech Therapy Curriculum and Informal Narrative Assessment Tools.

Thank you RISD for sharing with the Region 10 SLP community how you all connect and support each other. I appreciate the positive message of impacting student success by developing relationships, actively contributing, educating others in SLP practices, being flexible in supporting all students and staff, maintaining a healthy work/life balance, and practicing safe communication.

Please send in an email to Spotlight the amazing things happening in your district. Big or small, we all make a impact on students, families, staff, and each other every day. Let's share! pam.sepulvado@region10.org
