Board Recognizes State Science Fair Winners
At the May 26 District 28 Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized NBJH Independent Science Research students who participated in the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Fair last month.
The students brought home 20 Gold awards, and 10 students received a special award at the fair called the Thermo Fisher Award. This award is given to the top 10% of students who competed at the state fair. These students are eligible to submit their applications and potentially compete at the national level.
NBJH participates in the science fair each year by offering a semester-long course in which students pursue their own research interests—using the Scientific Method, which consists of systematic observation, measurement, and experimentation, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. Science teachers Sarah DeGalicia, Rachelle McCracken, and Amber Paull guide the students through their projects. Congratulations to all!

Board Approves Renewal of District E-Learning Plan
At the May 26 Board meeting, the Board approved the renewal of District 28's e-learning plan. District E-Learning Plans are required by the Illinois State Board of Education to be renewed every three years. The updated plan will be in effect through the 2028-2029 school year. Click here to view the district's updated e-learning plan.
The State of Illinois permits school districts to implement e-learning days in place of scheduled
emergency days for circumstances that would otherwise require school closure, such as
inclement weather (e.g., excessive snow, blizzard conditions, extreme cold) or other emergencies. The development of an e-learning plan ensures that District 28 is prepared to transition to e-learning when appropriate. However, the use of an e-learning day is determined on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed for every emergency closure.
