Always Growing: Focused Lunch Period, Not Silent Lunch

As part of our building PBiS plan, we have common expectations in the shared areas of the school. Throughout the year, we review these expectations with students to ensure the best environment for learning. One of the most common places we have to review expectations is the lunchroom.

Recently, we have received inquiries about “silent lunch”. We are not instituting a silent lunch with our students as we believe that lunch and recess are an important part of the student's day and their ability to socialize and play with friends is important. Since this is something that we value as a building we do not expect students to be silent.

We have, however, started a “focused eating period”. This focused eating period is about 5 minutes of the student's lunch. During this time, students can talk to their table mates at a low level (students often call it a whisper- but we just ask that it is soft), and should not get out of their seats to use the restroom unless it is an emergency. For more information about this focused period, click on the link below.

Better Together: Wishing You A Great Break

Since there will not be a Pinney Post next week, I wanted to send a quick note wishing you all a wonderful winter break and happy new year.

As we approach the end of this semester, I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. The winter break is a time for rest, rejuvenation, and quality time spent with loved ones. I hope you take this opportunity to recharge and create lasting memories with family and friends. Thank you for your dedication and hard work throughout the semester, and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year. Wishing you a joyful and peaceful winter break!
