Dear District 95 Families,

As we break for a few days to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, I hope your heart is as full as mine with gratitude for being part of such a caring learning community that I consider to be my extended family.

We have the great fortune to have caring, compassionate educators and supporting staff in all of our buildings, serving our students and families.

We have dedicated leaders in our schools, who put themselves last in order to serve their students, families, and staff first.

We have amazing students who are bright, compassionate, fun and funny, who will - or already have - impacted the world for the better.

We have devoted families who want the best for their children, for our community, and for the future.

We have a community that supports our schools, our leaders, and our students and their families, cheering them on every step of their journey.

For these and many other reasons I am incredibly grateful to serve all of you who are part of this wonderful District 95 family. Please take care and be safe this holiday weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kelley Gallt

Superintendent

Navig8 Lake County - Career Exploration Opportunity

In late October, thousands of middle and high school students across Lake County gathered at the Lake County Fairgrounds to spend time learning about various career opportunities through an event called Navig8 Lake County, sponsored by the Lake County Regional Office of Education. Nearly 100 organizations participated, offering displays and interactive activities to help students explore and better understand a variety of career paths. Lake Zurich students from Middle School North, Middle School South, and some freshmen from Lake Zurich High School attended this inaugural event.

District 95 was proud to have one of our leaders from the Curriculum and Instruction team, Ms. Ali Finn, represent the district on the planning and leadership committee for this event. Ms. Finn's contributions helped shape this meaningful experience, ensuring it was both engaging and impactful for students across the region. This collaboration reflects our commitment to providing students with opportunities that prepare them for future success and align with their skills and interests.

Severe Weather, Emergency Closures, and Altered Schedules

Emergency Closures and Altered Schedules

As we enter the winter months, severe weather will sometimes require the school district to call for an emergency closing day or for an altered schedule such as a Delayed Start or an Early Dismissal. Our goal in providing a Delayed Start during inclement weather is to prioritize both in-person learning and the safety of all students, families, and staff (for more information see below).

Should a Delayed Start not be an option, District 95 will announce a “traditional” emergency day, again honoring in-person learning. On such days, school will not be in session, and remote learning is unlikely. As a result, please keep in mind that any emergency days used during the school year must be added to the end of the school calendar as make-up days.

Communication

If a school closure or altered schedule be deemed necessary, the district will communicate with families using our mass communication system through emails and texts (provided a number is provided in ParentVUE for texting), and on our websites and official social media accounts.

When is a Delayed Start called?

The Delayed Start schedule may be initiated by the district to allow time for roads and school grounds to be cleared and for our staff to arrive at school. When a Delayed Start is called, district buses will arrive at your student’s bus stop two hours later than their regularly scheduled time. Students who walk or drive to school should arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the delayed start time. Where applicable, class periods will be shortened to accommodate a shorter day, but dismissal times will not change. Food service will be provided as usual.

When is an Early Dismissal called?

The Early Dismissal schedule may be initiated by the district if severe weather is moving into the area making travel at normal dismissal times difficult or unsafe. When the district calls for an Early Dismissal, school is dismissed exactly two hours earlier than the regular schedule.

2024 Annual Summative Designations

In late October, the 2024 Annual Summative Designations were released by the Illinois State Board of Education. These designations describe schools excelling across various academic and student success indicators and identify schools requiring support and improvement. The summative designation is reported on the Illinois School Report Card. Illinois issues five Annual Summative Designations: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted Support, Comprehensive Support, and Intensive Support.

We are thrilled to announce that the following schools were designated Exemplary:

  • Lake Zurich High School
  • Middle School South
  • May Whitney Elementary
  • Sarah Adams Elementary
  • Seth Paine Elementary
  • Spencer Loomis Elementary

We are also extremely proud of these schools, designated Commendable, which missed the threshold for the Exemplary designation by 1.2% or less:

  • Middle School North
  • Isaac Fox Elementary

Below is more information about the Exemplary and Commendable summative designations.

Exemplary

  • Overall performance in the top 10% of all schools
  • Must have no targeted student groups at or below the “all students” group of the lowest-performing 5% of schools
  • High schools must have a graduation rate higher than 67%

Commendable
  • Overall performance not in the top 10% of all schools
  • Must have no targeted student groups at or below the “all students” group of the lowest-performing 5% of schools
  • High schools must have a graduation rate higher than 67%

Join Us for Sip 'n Chat

This year, in conjunction with the District 95 Board of Education and administration, we began a new initiative called “Sip ‘n Chat” where up to two Board members, one or more administrators, and I will be available at various locations in the community for people to drop in for conversations relating to our school district. We will have key people on hand who are subject matter experts in particular areas, but discussions are not restricted to only that topic. We hope to have room for up to 20-25 people at one time, though it is also fine to come and go – I hope you will consider stopping by for a cup of coffee and a chat!

A Letter from Board Member, Natashia Dannegger

Dear District 95 Community,

As a proud member of our school board and a mom of four boys—one at Isaac Fox Elementary, one at Middle School South, and two at the high school—I want to take a moment to share my deep appreciation for our school district and the incredible community we’ve built together.

Having started my career as an elementary school teacher, education has always been my passion. Currently, I serve as a substitute teacher in Barrington School District, and I’ve also had the privilege of working as a substitute in our own district (prior to becoming a Board member), gaining first-hand experience in all of our elementary school buildings. This background has greatly informed my role on the board, particularly as I’ve participated in various committees, including the Facilities and Business Operations Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Languages Committee, the Referendum Committee, and the Redistricting Committee. I also had the honor of serving as Isaac Fox PTO president, which reinforced my commitment to our schools and the families we serve.

I am especially proud of our district's achievements, including receiving two Blue Ribbon Awards and the Green Ribbon Award, which reflect our dedication to academic excellence and environmental sustainability. As a board, we work diligently to ensure fiscal responsibility while striving for academic success and fostering equity and inclusion for all students.

I sincerely hope to connect with many of you at upcoming school events or on the sidelines of one of my boys’ baseball, basketball, soccer, or football games. Please feel free to stop by and chat; I would love to hear your thoughts and share ideas about how we can continue to support our students and community.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our schools. Together, we can continue to foster a nurturing and enriching environment for all our children.

Sincerely,

Natashia Dannegger
