Welcome Back
2025-2026
Principal Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! It is with great excitement and a touch of nostalgia, that I write this letter to officially kick off what will be our final school year at Elroy Elementary.
This year is more than just a typical “back to school.” It is the beginning of our last lap in a building that has been the heart of so many stories—stories of laughter, friendship, resilience, and growth. For generations, Elroy has stood as a cornerstone of our community. Its classrooms have cradled curious minds, its halls have echoed with the footsteps of learners, and its walls have witnessed a thousand little triumphs.
As we prepare to transition to Brentwood Elementary next fall, a new building that will bring together students and staff from both Elroy and Moore Elementary, this year offers us a unique and beautiful opportunity: to celebrate where we’ve been while imagining all that lies ahead.
Our theme for the year is “Honor the Past, Embrace the Future.”
We will carry forward Elroy’s proud legacy of warmth, community, and excellence, while helping our students build new memories that will anchor them in their journey ahead. Throughout the year, we’ll be creating intentional moments to reflect on Elroy’s history, commemorate the role this school has played in our lives, and prepare for a seamless and joyful transition to our new home.
Here are a few important dates to mark your calendars:
First Day of School – Friday, August 22, 2025
Doors open at 7:45 AM for breakfast (free for all students again this year!). The school day begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. Dismissal locations will remain the same as last year, and kindergarten will begin dismissal at 2:50 PM.
Back-to-School Open House – Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM
Join us as we welcome you back into the building to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and learn more about what to expect this year. It’s also a perfect chance to take one more evening stroll through these cherished halls with your child and reflect on the memories we’ve made here.
This year will also include a series of events to celebrate Elroy’s legacy and honor its place in our community’s story. We’ll be inviting families, alumni, and friends to participate in memory projects, legacy events, and even contribute to a time capsule for our new building. Stay tuned for more details—we want everyone to have a chance to leave their mark.
As always, communication will be key. Please make sure your information is updated in Skyward, and be sure to follow us on ClassDojo, where we’ll share important updates, event information, reminders, and lots of photos and videos of the great things happening each day.
Above all else, I want you to know how deeply grateful we are for your continued partnership. The strength of our school lies not just in our walls, but in the people—students, staff, and families—who bring it to life. This final year at Elroy is ours to share together, and I am so honored to walk through it with you.
Let’s make this year unforgettable. Let’s teach, learn, laugh, create, and lead with our whole hearts. And let’s show our children what it looks like to celebrate where we come from while looking ahead with hope, courage, and joy.
With deep appreciation and warmest wishes,
Jennifer Zunic

Staff Updates: A Year of Reflection and New Beginnings
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, our final year at Elroy Elementary, I want to inform you of a few important staff changes. While transitions can be bittersweet, we believe these changes will continue to support a nurturing and high-quality educational environment for your children.
We begin by announcing that Kailey Salvato has been hired as our new Life Skills Support teacher, replacing Ms. Kortze, who has resigned from her position. We are grateful for Ms. Kortze’s time at Elroy and the care she gave to our students. Kailey's excitement, positivity, and passion for education, especially special education, is already shining through. We are confident she will be a wonderful addition to our team and will have a lasting impact on our students and school community.
We also wish all the best to Ms. Mileo, who has made the heartfelt decision to return home to New York City to be closer to her family. Though her time with us was brief, her presence made a positive impact, and she will be missed.
At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome Ms. Sara Wilson into a full-time paraprofessional position. Ms. Wilson has served as our building substitute for the past two years, and during that time, she has built strong relationships with students, staff, and families. We are so excited to have her officially join our Elroy team in this new role.
Additionally, we are in the process of hiring another paraprofessional to support our students and classrooms. As soon as this position is filled, we will share more details and ensure a warm welcome.
While change is never easy, it is often the catalyst for growth and renewal. As we close this final chapter at Elroy Elementary and look ahead to the opening of Brentwood Elementary next fall, we are confident that our staff, both familiar faces and new additions, will continue to make this school year one filled with joy, connection, and meaningful learning.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
