Good Morning,

What a terrific first week of school! As Mrs. MacKay and I walk around the classrooms, we see happy students engaged and learning—getting comfortable with the routines and schedules, learning about the school rules and expectations, and making new friends.

Thank you all for your patience navigating parking and the first week’s drop-off and pick-up routines. We know how difficult it can be as your children go off to school for their first school experience! We do want to kindly remind families that there is NO parking in our lot (due to safety concerns) unless you require handicap access. For those families needing handicap access, please wait until dismissal is complete before exiting the parking lot. This ensures all children stay safely away from moving vehicles.

Again, thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe!

Saying Goodbye to your Preschooler:

Saying a quick goodbye to your preschooler can definitely help make drop-off smoother and less stressful for both of you! Here’s a gentle way to do it:

  1. Be calm and confident: Kids pick up on your emotions, so stay positive and reassuring.

  2. Keep it brief: Give a quick hug or kiss, say something like, “I love you, have fun!” and then say goodbye.

  3. Avoid lingering: Dragging it out can make your child more anxious.

  4. Have a goodbye ritual: Something simple and consistent like a special wave, high-five, or phrase can be comforting.

  5. Stay consistent: The more routine your goodbyes, the easier it gets over time.

Afternoon Dismissal:

If someone else from your approved contact list is picking up your child:

  • They must bring a photo ID.

  • We cannot release students to anyone not on your contact list or without proper identification.

Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation!

WECC Attendance and Dismissal Procedures

To help ensure a safe and organized environment for our students, we kindly ask that all parents and guardians follow the procedures below regarding absences, tardiness, and dismissals:

Absences and Dismissals

  • Please report all student absences or planned early dismissals by calling the office at 781-335-0191.
  • For early dismissals, we respectfully request that they occur before 1:45 p.m. on full days and before 10:25 a.m. on early release days to avoid disrupting regular dismissal routines.

WECC School Council:

We are looking for School Council members. If you are interested in being a part of our school council please send me an email (maura.perez@weymouthschools.org) to let me know of your interest. The first meeting will be on Monday, October 20th at 5:00 p.m.

What is School Council?

There are four major areas of responsibility for school councils.

  1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards

  2. Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school

  3. Reviewing the annual school building budget

  4. Formulating a school improvement plan

Have a great Sunday!

Safety Safety

The first weeks of school are critical for establishing daily schedules, routines, and—most importantly—safety protocols. During this time, staff have been actively teaching students about our fire drill procedures and other key safety practices.

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and emotional well-being, we incorporate two important books into our monthly safety lessons: The Ant Hill Disaster and The Elephant in the Room.

Here’s a brief synopsis of each:

  • The Ant Hill Disaster by Julia Cook
This story follows a young ant who is scared to return to school after it is destroyed in a disaster. Through the narrative, students learn how to cope with fear, develop resilience, and feel safe returning to school after a traumatic event.

  • The Elephant in the Room
This book helps children process and talk about difficult or confusing feelings that may arise from challenging situations, emphasizing the importance of communication, empathy, and support within the school community.

By reading and discussing these books regularly, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where students and staff are prepared.

How To Have a Successful Morning

How to Help Your Child Have a Successful Morning

About this Series

The Backpack Connection Series was created by TACSEI to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior.

Each Backpack Connection handout provides information that helps parents stay informed about what their child is learning at school and specific ideas on how to use the strategy or skill at home.
