From the Principals🍁 From the Principals🍁

We ended last week with our Fall Festival, and what a huge success it was! Despite some last-minute changes due to the wind, our PTA did an incredible job making it such a fun and memorable evening for our Red Hawk families. If you see a PTA mom, please be sure to give them a big THANK YOU! The amount of time, planning, and work that goes into putting on Fall Festival is plentiful, and we are so grateful for everything they do for our school community.

We had a great week this week, with just a few rainy moments along the way. Somehow, we managed to stay outside for lunch and recess all week, which definitely felt like a win!

Today, we celebrated the retirement of our wonderful cafeteria manager, Ms. Carmel. Our entire school lined the hallways to “clap her out” as she took her final walk through Red Hawk. It was a special way to celebrate Ms. Carmel and thank her for the many years she has spent caring for and serving our students. We wish her all the best as she begins this exciting new chapter!

Next week, we’re looking forward to celebrating Red Ribbon Week! We’ll have dress-up days every day and plenty of opportunities for our Heroes to show their school spirit. We can’t wait to see everyone join in the fun!

Have a wonderful weekend, Heroes! 💙💚

What is WATCH D.O.G.S? WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a family and community engagement program utilizing the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose: 1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. and 2) to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

What do WATCH D.O.G.S do? Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student's school volunteering. They will support the school through: monitoring the school property, working in small groups, reading, using flashcards, helping with homework, refereeing games, listening ears, or whatever else needs to be done to plant seeds of success in the lives of students.

TVUSD Annual Parent/Family Survey TVUSD Annual Parent/Family Survey

TVUSD wants to hear from you!

Every year we ask our TVUSD families to complete a brief survey. The survey assists the Governing Board and District/Site Leaders as we strive to continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences, which meet the needs of all our learners, and prepare students for college and career readiness.

Purpose

The survey data is a valuable source of information as we continue to develop and update student centered instructional practices and fiscal budgets. The survey is anonymous. District and staff leaders will have access to aggregate data from all staff/parents, but will not be able to view individual responses nor connect responses to any one respondent. If you have students at multiple school site's, please complete one survey for each site.

The process for developing the Local Control Accountability Plan mandates each district in California demonstrate the district is providing ample opportunities for educational partner (students, parents, and staff) feedback and engagement in the educational systems. TVUSD uses a variety of committees and surveys to demonstrate this educational partner engagement, gather recommendations, and cultivate parent-school collaboration, including but not limited to:

  • Surveys: Student, Parents, and Staff

  • ELAC: English Language Advisory Committee

  • CAP- Community Advisory Partner Committee

  • SSC- Student Site Council for Title I Schools

  • CAC- Community Advisory Committee

  • DELAC- District English Learner Advisory Committee

  • PTA- Parent Teacher Associations

The data we gather from the student, parent, and staff surveys, along with input from these committees is compiled and reported on the TVUSD State Dashboard in the Local Indicators. The district uses the data to report out how the district is performing in a variety of areas, including but not limited to:

  • Basic Services and Conditions

  • Implementation of State Academic Standards

  • Parent and Family Engagement

  • School Climate

We ask that you would take a moment to partner with us and share your insights. Thank you in advance for your time and thoughtful responses.

➕What's Going on in Math?! ➖ ➕What's Going on in Math?! ➖

This section of our newsletter includes links to the Bridges Math parent newsletters, designed to help you better understand what your child is learning in math and how it’s being taught in the classroom. These resources offer opportunities to practice and apply new skills at home, including games to play as a family and an overview of your child’s current unit. If you’d like to know which unit your child is working on, please feel free to reach out to their teacher. Families are also encouraged to revisit prior unit activities to review and strengthen learning.

**NEW**: We now have ALL of the "work places" or games that support the math happening in each of your student's classes that can be played at home by simply scanning a QR code from the folders located in the office or on the graphic below! Come check them out so you can play math games at home with your student!

We are excited to share that the Temecula Valley Unified School District is beginning the second phase of its elementary mathematics curriculum pilot with Bridges 3rd Edition from The Math Learning Center on October 22nd. This initiative reflects our continued commitment to strengthening math instruction in alignment with the updated California Mathematics Framework.

General and special education teachers representing all grade levels and sites will be participating in this pilot, exploring Bridges 3rd Edition in their classrooms.

The pilot will run from October 22 through December 18, 2026.

While not all students and teachers will participate directly in the pilot, sample textbooks and instructional materials will be available for review at each of our elementary schools, as well as at the District Office. Families and community members are invited to explore the materials and share their feedback using the QR code available at each location.

You may also provide feedback online using this link. Feedback for Bridges 3rd Edition will be available beginning October 22nd.

We value your partnership and appreciate your continued support of TVUSD’s efforts to provide high-quality educational experiences for all students.

✅Attendance ✅Attendance

Dear TVUSD Elementary Families,

As the autumn season sets in, our district-wide "Level Up" attendance journey moves into an exciting new realm! October is packed with brand-new subjects, hands-on experiments, and interactive group projects that bring learning to life for our young scholars.

This month, our focus is on encouraging students to discover new passions through active classroom experiences while keeping our daily attendance strong to prevent the early "fall attendance slump."

How to Beat the Fall Slump & Stay Charged Up:

  • 🧪 Hands-On Classroom Quests: October features engaging science activities, creative art projects, and collaborative group tasks. These tactile, interactive lessons can't be replicated on a make-up worksheet—showing up in person lets students fully experience the fun!

  • 🛡️ Shield Against Seasonal Fatigue: Shorter days and cooler mornings can make waking up a bit tougher. Keeping consistent bedtimes, laying out clothes the night before, and maintaining steady morning routines shield your child from morning rush stress and attendance slumps.

  • 🗺️ Explore New Learning Realms: From fresh reading units to interactive math games, everyday attendance gives your child the complete map to explore new subjects and build confidence alongside their classmates.

  • 📊 Keep the Streak Alive: Celebrate your child’s weekly attendance milestones! Small daily victories build momentum that carries students smoothly through the fall term.

When students show up every day, they unlock new discoveries and build friendships that make school an exciting place to be. If your family needs support with morning routines, transportation, or seasonal attendance challenges, please contact our front office—we are always here to help your student succeed!

Let’s beat the slump, discover new skills, and Level Up together this fall!

Warmly,

Taylor Lundin, Principal
