Principal's Message

Dear Mary M. Knight Families,

As we begin the second week of 2025, I want to highlight some important academic milestones and events coming up at Mary M. Knight. Most notably, this Thursday, January 16th marks the end of our first semester. This is a crucial time for our students, particularly at the secondary level, as these grades will be part of their permanent academic record and impact graduation requirements.

I strongly encourage all families to take an active role in reviewing your child's academic progress before Thursday. Please check Skyward Family Access and communicate directly with your child's teachers if you have any questions or concerns about their current standing. This proactive approach ensures there are no surprises and gives students a chance to address any outstanding assignments before the semester closes.

For our secondary students who may need additional support, remember that our after-school tutoring program runs Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. This is an excellent opportunity for students to work directly with teachers on assignments and assessments. If your student plans to attend tutoring, please note that families need to arrange transportation at 4:30 PM, as bus service is not available.

Looking ahead at our week:

  • Our K-3 students continue their swimming program Monday through Thursday
  • Wednesday: High School basketball team plays at Taholah (5:30 PM)
  • Friday: No school due to Professional Development Day, but our high school basketball team will play at Naselle (5:30 PM)

I'm also proud to recognize our weekly GRIT award winners who exemplify Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity in their daily activities:

Elementary: Kylie Fischer, Riley Coleman, Axel Silvan-Ramirez, and Keith Johnson

These students demonstrate our commitment to "Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence."

As always, our mission remains focused on ensuring all students have the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to be successful citizens. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.

Best regards,

Josh Stoney

Secondary Tutoring - Are you in grades 7-12 and want tutoring?

Dear MMK Families,

Our secondary tutoring program continues to provide academic support for students in grades 7-12. The program runs Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, offering students direct assistance from teachers on assignments and assessments.

Students must attend the full session unless prior arrangements for early pickup are confirmed by parents. While this is a valuable opportunity for academic support, families need to arrange transportation at 4:30 PM, as bus service is not available. Please note that tutoring should not be used as a waiting period for after-school events.

For questions about the program, please contact the main office.

Weekly GRIT students

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
