A Message from Mr. Smith

Handbook Assemblies

This past week all students took part in grade level assemblies to discuss the HMS handbook and related topics. Led by administrators, counselors, and Officer Ramsey, these assemblies are designed to explain and reinforce the norms and routines of daily life at HMS. We also educated our students on the topics of bullying and appropriate social media use. The overall theme of the assembly was that we are all here together and we must take care of each other!

Both the Student Handbook and Code of Discipline can be found on the HMS website, and are linked here please review these documents with your child(ren). You will need to confirm that you and your child(ren) have read and agree to both the HMS Handbook and the Code of Discipline. This can be done as part of the parent workflow. See below:

Seeking School Building Committee Volunteers

At the 2025 Town Meeting, the town approved Article 33, which called for the formation of the 2025 School Building Committee. The committee will consist of seven members and will focus on replacing the roofs and upgrading the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system at Hingham High School, as well as replacing the roofs at Plymouth River Elementary School and South Elementary School. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please complete the Talent Bank Application by September 19, 2025, and indicate “School Building Committee” as your area of interest. Applicant interviews will be scheduled shortly after the deadline, with the goal of appointing the committee by October 27, 2025. For more information about the selection process, responsibilities, and timeline, please visit the Hingham Public Schools website: https://www.hinghamschools.org/.

The Barracudas have kicked off the school year by diving into their summer reading assignments! Each student designed a creative book review for their chosen novel. The projects included a six-word summary, interesting quotes, an original book cover design, and a thoughtful recommendation to share with classmates . . .

Dues

Let’s reach 100% together!

We are graciously asking for $45 per family to support our PTO—but please know that any amount is truly appreciated and makes a difference!

We only ask for PTO dues once a year (outside of optional event tickets), so your gift goes a long way in making HMS shine. ✨

Your support helps bring grade-level activities to life, welcome inspiring guest speakers, stock up on much-needed school supplies, provide mini-grants, and show our incredible teachers some extra love and appreciation—all while adding extra fun throughout the year! 🎉

Together, we can make HMS the very best it can be for our students, teachers, and community. Thank you for giving what you can!

We are thrilled to be supporting our One Book, One School events this month, including a virtual visit from Song for a Whale author, Lynne Kelly, complete with an ASL interpreter.
