Messages
Greetings fellow Lions,
June is here and with it an end to the Lion year. I wish DG elect Paula success as she takes on the role as District Governor in July. I would also like to congratulate her on the International Leadership Award she received at the State Convention. Our District is also very fortunate that we have two willing, capable, and strong leaders as Vice Governors, Demetrios as our FVDG Elect and Matt as SVDG Elect. I know they will continue to do a great job serving the district and community and I will help and support them anyway I can.
One of the main things I enjoyed this year was visiting all of the Clubs in our District. It was great spending the time with you getting to learn more about you, the Club, and how you serve your community. I made new friends and I hope to continue visiting you in the future.
I wished that my health was not an issue while District Governor. I wanted to get more accomplished. I really do hope that they can figure out what my health problems are and not treat the symptoms and me keep heading back to the hospital.
This year I did not go to the State Convention in Indiana, PA because of Doctors' advising me not to go. I went against their orders and did go to the Preliminary and Council Meeting on Thursday. I felt I needed to do it. It was great seeing my friends from State and my fellow District Governors that I served with. Unfortunately, I was back in the hospital a few days later.
Our District was commended for achieving a 94 percent on Service Reporting on the portal. I know we can do 100 percent like last year. Clubs please, if you are not already doing so, please post your service activities and hours in the portal or send the information to Lion Barry Marteny.
Again, thank you for your commitment to Service.

This past month has been filled with fellowship, service, leadership, and planning
throughout our district and across Pennsylvania Lionism.
I had the pleasure of attending the 70th Charter Night celebration for the Blandon
Lions Club, where Lions gathered to celebrate decades of dedication and service to
their community. It was inspiring to reflect on the many accomplishments and
lasting impact the club has made over the years.
I was also honored to serve as the guest speaker for the 77th Charter Night of the
Amity Lions Club. Thank you to the club members for the warm welcome and
hospitality. It was wonderful to spend the evening celebrating the continued
commitment of Lions who faithfully serve their communities.
In preparation for the upcoming Lions year, I met with Demetrios C. Thermenos
and Matt Hensinger to begin planning for next year. I am excited about the ideas
and goals we discussed and look forward to working together to continue
strengthening our district and supporting our clubs. I have also been busy preparing
a visitation schedule for the upcoming year and look forward to visiting many
clubs in the months ahead.
On May 13, I traveled to Indiana to attend the Pennsylvania Lions State
Convention. The convention weekend was filled with learning, fellowship, music,
and service. One of the highlights was attending two wonderful concerts performed
by the Pennsylvania Lions All-State Band. These talented young musicians
continue to represent the spirit and dedication of Lionism so well.
We were also honored to hear from guest speaker Albert Brandall and his wife, Dr.
Maureen Murphy, who shared inspiring messages about service and leadership.
Another meaningful part of the convention was participating in a hands-on service
project where Lions worked together to pack enough meals to feed 10,000 people
overseas in areas where food is not as plentiful as it is here in the United States.
Convention attendees also collected aluminum tabs to support charitable efforts.
These projects are a wonderful reminder that when Lions work together, we can
make a difference not only locally, but around the world.
During the convention, we also learned that the Pennsylvania Lions State Band
will be working to raise funds in order to attend the 2027 State Convention, which
will be held in Washington. We look forward to supporting these talented students
and helping ensure they can continue sharing their music and representing
Pennsylvania Lions with pride.
I also had the privilege of attending the 76th Charter Night celebration for the
Avon Grove Lions Club. During the evening, I had the honor of installing the club
officers for the upcoming year.
In addition, I had the privilege of attending the 54th Charter Night celebration for
the Exeter Lions Club, where I had the honor of installing the club officers for the
upcoming Lions year. Congratulations to the incoming officers, and thank you for
your willingness to lead and serve your club and community.
These past few weeks have truly reflected the spirit of Lionism — fellowship,
leadership, music, service, and working together to help others. As we continue
“Cooking Up Service,” I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such
dedicated Lions throughout our district and state.
“We Serve”
Paula Hilbert DGE
Greetings, fellow Lions and Leaders of District 14P. This has been an interesting Lion
year of discovery and enlightenment. Since being approved as Second Vice District
Governor in February, I have begun the journey that will lead to being District Governor
in the Lion year 2027-2028. I am slowly learning protocol from PDGs Gary Hilbert, Art
Pecht, Richard Taylor and First Vice District Governor Paula Hilber.
As the president of Spring Township Lions Club, I thought I knew what the district
officers did, but I was missing a great deal of information. I now realize their primary
objective is to support the clubs of 14P and connect us with LCI and each other.
I have been doing some unofficial club visits, including the Coatesville Lions Club, the
Honey Brook Lions Club, the Boyertown Lions Club and the Kimberton Lions Club. With
each visit I see some commonality among the clubs as well as great diversity. I look
forward to my visit with The Rehersberg Lions Club later this month and the Kutztown
Lions Club in June.
District Elect Paula Hilbert, Second Vice District Governor Matt Hensinger and I have
been working on developing and improving district goals for the upcoming three years
and beyond. When they are ready, I feel certain DGE Paula will share them with all of
you.
As I look towards next Lion year, I am anticipating getting in many more visits to other
clubs in 14P. One of my objectives as I visit is to offer club officers any assistance I can
with the Lion Portal, especially in member information and service reporting. I know the
portal can be a bit overwhelming, but I also know we can conquer this website and get
all the pertinent data in successfully. My only goal is to assist.
If we are to continue to meet the needs of our communities and the world, we need to
spend some energy in attracting more member. While Mission 1.5 is an important goal,
the real issue is that we need more hands and minds to increase the services we provide
to an increasingly needy world.
I look forward to meeting as many members of 14P as possible, at your club meetings,
but also at district cabinet meetings, zone meetings and conventions. We serve is our
motto, and serving together makes us stronger and more successful.
I strongly encourage every Lions Club in District 14P to work on using social media to
attract and retain members, advertise service projects and communicate with your
communities. There are many platforms to be used and help to be had - just ask! If you
are4 a Facebook user, I recommend several groups for you to follow: Lions Clubs
International, Lion Portal Forum, Global Lions Forum, Improving Lions Club Quality and
PA Lions - Multiple District 14.

Memorial Day has just passed and gave me cause to reflect on Service. Service is what we
Lions do. We Serve. When you look at this list of our Global Causes, it should motivate
your club to take a look at what you’re doing, and if possible, do more! There is a definite
need everywhere you look, if you’re looking. In order to serve, we need to constantly grow
our clubs; just as a farmer has to plant new seeds every year, we need to do the same with
our club membership. If we don’t grow, we can’t serve. Let’s plant seeds and grow!
Here are some tips for promoting membership I hope you find helpful. Promoting a Lions
Club is all about showing your community the positive impact you make, while
highlighting the fun, networking, and fulfillment members get out of it.
A successful promotion and membership drive focuses on high-visibility service, digital
engagement, and personal connection.
1. Show, Don't Just Tell
Invite Folks to Service Projects: The #1 way to get new members is to invite them to
volunteer at a service project, like a park cleanup or vision screening. Let them experience
the camaraderie and joy of serving firsthand.
"Just Ask!" Events: Host low-pressure, social gatherings (ice cream socials, casual BBQs,
or a happy hour). Encourage every member to bring at least one friend.
Follow Up Fast: If someone volunteers with you at a public event, get their contact info and
follow up within 48 hours to thank them and invite them to the next event.
2. Leverage Social Media
Social media is free, visually engaging, and the quickest way to get the word out to people
looking to serve.
Post Often: Take impactful photos and short videos at every single event or service project.
An active Facebook or Instagram page proves your club is vibrant and alive.
Tell Stories: Share personal stories about why members joined the club and what their
service means to them.
Use LCI Materials: Download pre-made promotional materials, logos, and social media
guides from the Lions Clubs International Social Media page to keep your branding
polished.
3. Maximize Community Visibility
Wear Your Gear: Proudly wear branded Lion apparel or vests whenever you are serving,
but also when you're out running errands (like at the hardware store or grocery). It sparks
curiosity and conversation.
Collaborate with Others: Partner with local fire departments, other civic groups, or local
nonprofits for town events. It gives your club extra visibility and builds goodwill.
Press Releases: Send short blurbs and 2-3 photos to local newspapers or radio stations after
a successful fundraiser or service event.
4. Adapt to Modern Schedules & Interests
Offer Flexibility: Not everyone can attend two evening meetings a month with a meal.
Consider a one-hour monthly meeting, or hybrid (in-person/virtual) options to fit modern
work schedules.
Family-Friendly Opportunities: Allow prospective members to bring their kids so that
childcare doesn't become a barrier to volunteering.
Tap into Younger Generations: Younger volunteers usually want highly active, cause-
driven opportunities. Tailor projects to causes they are passionate about (e.g.,
environmental cleanups or youth mentorship).
I wish you the best of luck with your crop this year, I hope you all have a bountiful harvest!
Last year we were one of only 4 clubs in Constructional Area 1 to have 100% reporting in the Lion's Portal. As you can see so far, this year we have 96% of the clubs reporting service. This includes our Leo Clubs.
There is one month left in the current Lion's Year. We only need the two clubs that haven't reported anything to report something. I would be happy to report for them. Let's get to 100% again this year.

Lion Barry Marteny
As the Lions Year draws to a close, I want to thank all the Lion Clubs that sponsor a Leo Club
for your commitment to the program.
I would encourage the other District Lions Clubs to consider starting a Leo Club.
Special thanks to all the Lions that are Leo Club Advisors for their
hard work guiding and mentoring their Leos.
I look forward to seeing all the wonderful service projects, the Leo Clubs will be doing next year.
As always if you need any assistance, please feel free to contact me.

As the Lions year draws to a close, we have one more month for articles. I would like to see all the clubs send in something for the last newsletter of the year. Be proud of your club's service to your community. Each club services their communities in many different ways, by sharing your stories, other clubs may get ideas for their own communities.
I want to thank the clubs that regularly send me articles and pictures for the newsletter. When I receive articles, I also share them the state's Facebook Page.
If you have any suggestion to improve the newsletter let me know.
Sincerely

2026 CALENDAR PAYMENTS SENT TO YOU FASTER
If you want your winnings faster and directly into your checking account,
instantly, we are offering payments through ZELLE. Set up your account
through your bank website or the Zelle app. Once set up contact me with
your cell number and email address attached to your current or new Zelle
account. pennoak@gmail.com text 484-631-8932. PDG Rich Taylor, Treas.
Zelle in 2026: Fast, Free, and Focused on Safety
In the world of digital finance, speed is king. Whether you’re splitting a dinner bill, paying the
babysitter, or sending emergency funds to a family member, Zelle® has become the go-to standard
for instant, bank-to-bank transfers.
But as the platform continues to grow—now integrated into over 2,200 financial institutions—it’s more
important than ever to understand how to use it efficiently and, most importantly, safely.
What is Zelle?
Zelle is a peer-to-peer (P2P) payment network that moves money directly between U.S. bank
accounts in minutes. Unlike apps like Venmo or PayPal, Zelle doesn’t hold your money in a "digital
wallet." Instead, the funds go straight from your checking account into the recipient’s, often with no
fees attached.
How It Works (The 2026 Update)
The beauty of Zelle is its simplicity. You don't need to share your bank account number or routing
information. All you need is:
An Enrolled Account: Most major banks and credit unions have Zelle built directly into their mobile
apps.
The Recipient’s Identifier: A U.S. mobile number or email address is all it takes to find them.
QR Codes: For even faster transactions, you can now simply scan a recipient’s unique Zelle QR
code to ensure you’re sending money to the right person without manual typing.
The "Golden Rule" of Zelle Safety
Because Zelle transfers are instant and irreversible, they are essentially the digital equivalent of
handing someone cash. Once you hit "Send," the money is gone. To stay protected in 2026, follow
these three rules:
Only Pay People You Know: Never use Zelle to buy items from strangers on marketplaces like
Facebook or Craigslist. If the item never arrives, Zelle does not offer "Buyer Protection."
Beware of "Bank Impersonation" Scams: Scammers may call or text pretending to be your
bank, claiming there’s "fraud" on your account and asking you to "Zelle yourself" to fix it. Your
bank will never ask you to do this.
The $1 Test: If you are sending a large amount of money to someone for the first time, send $1
first. Have them confirm they received it before sending the rest of the balance.
Final Thoughts
Zelle is an incredibly powerful tool for managing daily life. It’s fast, free, and convenient. By treating
it like cash and only using it with people you truly trust, you can enjoy the benefits of instant banking
while keeping your hard-earned money secure.
Disclaimer: Zelle and the Zelle related marks are wholly owned by Early Warning Services, LLC and

Dear Leo Club Program Leader,
Your hard work guiding and assisting Leos is critical to ensuring their continued service. Leos in your area may be aging up or reaching the end of their eligibility as a Leo, and you have the opportunity to continue to guide them in their next steps. Members beyond the eligible age for their respective Leo programs (Alpha Leos age 19 and Omega Leos age 31) will have their records automatically closed by Lions International on June 30, 2026. Communications will be going out shortly to your affected Leos.
Now is a great time for you to collaboratively develop a plan. Be proactive and reach out to Leos about their next steps in their service journey!
Steps to help your Leos continue their service journey
Utilize resources and identify impacted Leos: Review the resources on the Encourage Leos to become Lions webpage to equip you with tools to support the Leo to Lion transition, including the Leos Aging Up report to find clubs with impacted Leos. Leo advisors can use the Lion Portal to access the list of Leos whose recorded birthdates reflect current or approaching ineligibility.
Work as a team: Work with your GMT, GET and Leo leadership to help your Leos find their fit as a Lion. Your GMT may be able to assist in a smooth transition to existing Lions clubs, and your GET may be able to provide guidance for Leos interested in chartering their own Lions or Leo-Lion club.
Involve Leo-Lions: Collect stories and experiences from Leo-Lions in your area to share what awaits Leos when they become Lions. Consider the best methods to share these stories, whether it be a social media post, a discussion with a Leo-Lion or something else. Here’s an example!
Reach out to Leos: Share the What comes Next for Leos webpage with Leos to remind them of Lion membership options, including the Leo-Lion program and its benefits. Omega Leos is another great option for Alpha Leos.
Learn how to transfer Leo memberships: Share this video and document how to transfer Leos to Lions membership with Lion leaders, including Lions club secretaries and presidents.
Celebrate Leos:
April is Leo awareness month! Celebrate the Leos in your district and the Leo club advisors on the first-ever International Leo Club Advisor Day on April 30.
Did the Leos in your district take part in the Leo recruitment pitch competition this month? If so, make sure to submit the one winning video from your district by March 15.
Leos may also have questions regarding discounted international dues. Leo-Lions wishing to count towards the club’s total delegate entitlement can waive their international dues discount. Lions clubs secretaries can do this for them in the Lion Portal. In areas not using the Lion Portal, please contact your council chairperson and district/multiple district office staff administrators.
Yours in service,
The Young Lions and Leos Department

Attached is a flyer promoting the rental possibilities at PA Lions Beacon Lodge
Camp. Our goal is to have Beason Lodge become a year-round facility. There is an
exerted effort made to generate interest in leasing the camp during the off season

is from rentals.
We ask that you include the attached rental flyer in your District Newsletters.
To make rental arrangements and to include specific services, please contact Lion Kelly McMullen, Programs Director at 814-542-2511or Kellym@beaconlodge.org.

Lion Barry Marteny,
As we approach the end of the year, this is the perfect time to reflect on our shared experience as Lions. While each of us brings something unique, it is our combined effort that creates the greatest impact.
When we come together in service, we achieve meaningful goals and show our communities the kindness and commitment Lions are known for. As Lions, we are never alone — we support one another, inspire one another and overcome challenges together.
There is still time to join forces this year and do something great. I look forward to seeing what you and your clubs accomplish together.
Together in service,
A.P. Singh
International President
PEACE POSTER CONTEST
It's not too early to start thinking which schools you can contact about the PEACE POSTER CONTEST.
September to Deadline in October is a very short time for the students to work on their posters.
For last year's contest the District only received 2 posters. The Poster doesn't have to come from a Leo; any student can enter. Please think about reaching out to schools in your area and encourage them to do a poster.
Our Peace Poster Contest Brings Your Community Together
The Peace Poster Contest invites young people around the world to express their creativity while sharing their unique vision of peace. This special blog shows the powerful impact the contest has on our clubs, our youth and our communities.

APRIL SERVICE
Leos helped with games at Special Olympics
MS Leo Club students had the opportunity to give back by preparing and serving breakfast at Ronald McDonald House. From cooking and setting up to greeting families with warm smiles, they experienced firsthand what it means to serve others with compassion. This meaningful morning reminded everyone that kindness, teamwork, and a simple meal can bring comfort and support to families during challenging times.

Leos participated in Color some kindness, bring a kind word to recipients and brighten their day by decorating boxes for our Grocery Boxes for Seniors
On June 27, 2026, 170 students at Owen J. Roberts High School were officially inducted into the Leo Club during a ceremony held during the school’s FLEX period. As members arrived, the line of enthusiastic students stretched from the front of the auditorium, through the rear doors, and into the hallway. Fellow Leos greeted the inductees and assisted with check-in as they entered.
Among the new members were 76 first-year Leos, each receiving a welcome packet and certificate of membership. Graduating seniors were presented with a Leo Club lapel tack, a tradition that began several years ago after seniors expressed interest in having a special keepsake to wear at graduation in recognition of their years of service and involvement in the OJR Leo Club. In addition, all 170 members received Leo Club T-shirts.
Leo Club Advisor John McCormick thanked the students for their dedication and commitment to serving others throughout the school year. Collectively, the club completed nearly 1,750 hours of community service. In addition to numerous independent volunteer efforts, members participated in 40 club-sponsored service projects and activities.
During the ceremony, the members stood together to proudly recite the Leo Club Oath of Membership. They were once again thanked for their service and encouraged to continue making a positive difference in their community through a lifelong commitment to helping others.

LEO CLUB INDUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
On Friday, May 29, 2026, 42 of the 47 members of the Owen J. Roberts Middle School Leo Club were officially inducted by their club advisor, Jennifer Scott, with assistance from Lion Barry Marteny of the Avon Grove Lions Club and Lion Terry Stouffer, Youth Clubs Liaison from the sponsoring Coventry Lions Club. These 7th and 8th graders proudly recited the official oath of membership under the direction of Lion Terry, Coventry Lions Club.
Among the new members were ten 8th graders who served their school and community for both of their middle school years and 32 first year Leos. All Leos received a certificate of membership and Leo Club T-shirts. Collectively, the club completed just over 700 hours of community service. Throughout this school year, members participated in 20 club-sponsored service projects and activities and attended 12 in-school meetings during the FLEX period.
During the ceremony, members were repeatedly thanked for their commitment to service and willingness to help make a positive impact in their school and community. Current officers took a leadership role and read the names of each inductee as they came to the podium for their certificate and congratulatory handshakes from Lions and their club advisor. Additionally, officers and club participants had the opportunity to give speeches about what Leo Club means to them or to highlight a specific service project that was personally impactful. It was a beautiful, inspiring ceremony for which many family members and school staff were present.
Advisor Jennifer Scott is so proud of this group of amazing young people and change makers. She also graciously thanked the Leo families for their support of the club making its existence possible with transporting students to and from events and balancing their calendars to help spread service and kindness in our small part of the world.

CELEBRATING 85 YEARS OF SERVICE
It was an honor to celebrate the Paoli Berwyn Malvern Lions Club's 85th birthday at Royer-Greaves School For Blind & Services - a partnership rooted in a shared commitment to empowering children and adults who are blind, visually impaired, and living with multiple disabilities.
For 85 years, the PBM Lions Club has exemplified what it means to serve with compassion, purpose, and community spirit. From supporting individuals with visual impairments to uplifting local families and organizations, their legacy of service continues to make a lasting impact throughout our region.
Thank you to the members, past and present, whose dedication has strengthened our community for generations. Here’s to 85 years of service above self, meaningful partnerships, and changing lives - and to many more ahead!
Happy 85th Birthday, Paoli-Berwyn-Malvern Lions Club!
CHARTER NIGHT CELEBRATING 76 YEARS
Citizen of the Year - Scott Steele from West Grove. Scott also gave a very interesting presentation on the West Grove History Center. If you have not visited the West Grove History Center put it on your list to visit. Scott is such a community person and very deserving of the AG Lions Citizen of the Year. Scott was introduced by his brother AG Lion George which was so fitting with their father's involvement in the club too.

250 CELEBRATIOON
As part of the Parkesburg America 250 celebration, we’re excited to announce in conjunction with the Parkesburg 250 Committee that a full carnival is coming to town — complete with rides, food, and game concessions. The carnival will run Wednesday, July 1 through Saturday, July 4, bringing four days of fun right here to our community.
The goal is to wrap up the carnival on Saturday night with fireworks. Because this is the 4th of July during the 250th anniversary, the cost for fireworks is higher than usual. The committee has been working hard through fundraisers like Bingo and Pancake Breakfasts (plus more to come!), but we are still looking for additional business or private sponsors to help make fireworks happen and bring this tradition back to Parkesburg.
This has been a huge undertaking for the committee, but we are doing everything we can to pull off an amazing celebration for our town.
In addition to the carnival — and fingers crossed for fireworks — we will have a full weekend of activities at the park on Saturday and Sunday, including:
Live music
Craft vendors
Car, truck, tractor, and motorcycle show
Beer garden
Baseball on the field on Sunday
If you or someone you know would like to become a sponsor and help bring fireworks back to Parkesburg, please reach out to:
parkesburg250@gmail.com
Our committee is getting more excited every day to bring this celebration to the Parkesburg community. We can’t wait to celebrate this historic milestone together!
