Week 22

Middle of Year Testing
February 2 - 13, 2026
Our teachers will begin administering the iReady Middle of the Year (MOY) test beginning this week. We have marked two weeks for testing as students only test for about 30-40 minutes per day and some students require more time.
During the window in which students are testing, students may not use the platform for mypath and/or assignments. Be sure to log onto their Schoology to see how much they have grown.
Leader in Me: Habit 4
Think Win Win
Think Win-Win means everyone can be successful.
It’s about kindness, fairness, and solving problems so no one feels like they lose.
You can explain it to kids as:
“We look for solutions where everyone feels good about the outcome.”
Easy Ways to Practice Think Win-Win at Home
1. Model It First
Kids learn this habit by watching you.
-
Say things like:
“Let’s find a way that works for both of us.”
“I want to understand what you want too.” -
Avoid “because I said so” when possible—talk through choices instead.
2. Turn Conflicts Into Problem-Solving
When siblings argue or kids resist a rule:
-
Pause and ask:
-
“What do you want?”
-
“What do I want?”
-
“What’s a solution that works for both of us?”
-
-
Write or say out loud a few possible solutions and pick one together.
3. Offer Choices, Not Ultimatums
Giving choices helps kids feel respected.
-
Example:
“Homework before or after snack?”
“Clean your room now or in 10 minutes?”
Both options work for you—kids feel they “win” by choosing.
4. Practice Fairness, Not Sameness
Explain that fair doesn’t always mean equal.
-
Example:
One child gets more bedtime reading because they’re younger. -
Say:
“Win-Win means everyone gets what they need, even if it looks different.”
5. Use Family Meetings
Short weekly family meetings help kids practice win-win thinking.
-
Celebrate wins from the week
-
Talk about one problem as a family
-
Let kids suggest solutions
This builds leadership and cooperation.
6. Praise Win-Win Behavior
Catch kids when they:
-
Share without being asked
-
Compromise
-
Speak kindly during a disagreement
Say things like:
“That was Think Win-Win—you cared about yourself and your brother.”
7. Connect It to Real Life
Point it out in everyday situations:
-
Games: “How can we make this fun for everyone?”
-
Playdates: “What’s a win-win plan for both friends?”
-
Chores: “Let’s divide this so it’s fair.”
100 Days of School
Thursday, February 5th
Join us to celebrate this huge milestone! We are more than halfway through the school year and have already learned so much! Come dressed in your 100 collections or like how you envision you might be at age 100. We will host a red carpet where students will be able to strut their creativity. The most creative for each grade level will win a prize! All participants will earn a Multnomah Dollar.
Lunar New Year
Friday, February 6th
The official date of Lunar New Year is February 24th. However, we will kick it off early to welcome all the good luck and good fortune ahead of everyone else. Let's make the celebration last a little longer. The Immortal Dragon Dancers will help us kick off this celebration with a small dance ritual on Friday the 6th. Please wear your RED Multnomah M shirt to embrace the good luck and good fortune as red is the color of prosperity.
Career Day
A message from our Career Day Committee:
Multnomah is excited to host our upcoming Career Day, and we would love your participation! We invite parents, alumni, and community professionals to share your career, experiences, and a “day in the life” with our students. All careers are welcome. Your story can inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help students dream big. Whether you are a nurse, mechanic, firefighter, police officer, writer, actor, or work in another field, we would love to hear from you. Thank you for supporting our students and helping them see the many paths their futures can take. If you are interested in participating, please complete the survey below. 😎
Annual Science Fair
Families, we are excited to kick off Multnomah’s Annual Science Fair! Participating in a science fair gives children a fun, hands-on way to explore their curiosity and build confidence. It helps them practice asking questions, planning experiments, and explaining their ideas. These skills boost critical thinking and communication. Science fairs also encourage perseverance as students try, revise, and improve their projects, and they create opportunities for positive parent/child teamwork and pride. Finally, seeing their work displayed and celebrated with classmates can spark a lasting love of learning and science. So if it's optional for your student, I strongly encourage you to participate anyways! All projects will be showcased in the MPR and on exhibit for Science Night on March 19th.

School Experience Survey
The School Experience Survey is an annual survey administered in the spring to all LAUSD schools. Survey results provide schools with important feedback from teachers, staff, students, and parents. The SES provides valuable information to stakeholders about LAUSD schools.
We will be asking all of our staff, our 4th and 5th grade students, and our parents to complete the survey. The information will be able to support us in making informed decision about what we are doing well at our school and what we might need to adjust.
Please support us in hitting our goal of 100% participation as every voice matters.
Survey Opens Monday, 2/2/26.
February Attendance Challenge
There will be a daily attendance tracker hanging right outside the main office. Every time a class has 100% of students in attendance, the class will receive a stamp/sticker. We will be selecting one winner per program with the highest attendance for the month with the grand prize.
February Calendar
Kindness and Black History
In February we celebrate the importance of practicing kindness and also Black History. Practicing kindness and celebrating Black History Month help students grow into respectful, caring leaders. Black History Month gives us a chance to learn about the achievements, voices, and experiences of Black Americans and to understand how they have shaped our country and communities. When students learn this history and choose kindness in their words and actions, they build empathy, appreciation for differences, and a stronger sense of fairness. Together, kindness and learning help create a school community where everyone feels valued, included, and proud of who they are.
Monday, please have your child wear their "field trip" shirt which also has a kindness message on it.
Friendship Grams
If you would like to support our school and celebrate some friends with kindness, fill out and return the friendship gram forms. Each pen or candy option is $1.00. Let us help you save some time this Valentine's Day. Grams will be delivered on 2/13 and all proceeds will support our student incentives.
The school will also be hosting a friendship dance for students on 2/11/26. There are a few fields trips on 2/12 and 2/13 and we want to be sure all students have a chance to participate, so the dance will be on 2/11.
