Important Dates!

November 1st is a big day in the compliance world!

First, Bilingual Exceptions and ESL Waiver applications are due to TEA on November 1st. You can find helpful information for completing and submitting these documents on the TEA website at: https://tea.texas.gov/Academics/Special_Student_Populations/Bilingual_ESL_Education/Bilingual_Education_Exception_and_ESL_Waiver_Resources

The annual Bilingual/ESL Program Evaluation is due to your school board on November 1st. It is not required that it be presented formally, however, this is always an LEA option. The program evaluation does not need to be submitted to TEA, but it must be made available if requested.

Finally, the last date that you may use an identification assessment from the 2018-2019 list of approved tests is October 31st (please click here to view the Commissioner's letter in which this is addressed). As of November 1st, all LEAs must switch over to the single, statewide assessment -- the DRC Language Assessment System (LAS). If you need assistance or training with the new assessment, DRC has a dedicated customer service number and email specifically for Texas LEAs. The Texas-dedicated customer service line is 833-867-5679 Option 2. The Texas-dedicated customer service email is lastechtx@datarecognitioncorp.com.

If you have any BE/ESL compliance questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jennifer Phillips via email at jennifer.phillips@region10.org or by phone at 972-348-1050.
