Canaan Middle School Update
August 18th, 2023
Principal Corner
Canaan Families,
The school year is off to a great start as students start settling into their classes. As we finish up the opening few days of school and move into our regular classroom routines, it is important to stay connected by logging on to Canvas to keep up with your student's classroom assignments and grades. For login information, please see the link further down in the newsletter. Also coming up, we will begin MAP testing on Tuesday and will finish up over the next couple of weeks. These are assessments that give us a better understanding of what each student is ready to learn about. They are not graded and we just ask that students give their best effort. If you have any questions please reach out. We can't thank you enough for the support you have shown our students and staff so far this year. The partnership between school and home is so important to the success of our students.

Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Hein
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back! As we begin a new school year, I would like to review counseling services at Canaan. My role as School Counselor is to…
Work with ALL students to encourage a safe climate of trust and respect.
Provide lessons that are designed to assist with issues and interests related to the stages of student growth in the areas of academic, career, personal, social and emotional development. These lessons align with the American School Counselor Association standards.
Meet with students individually to help with personal issues by providing brief, solution-focused counseling on an as needed basis.
Facilitate small groups that focus on improving personal-social or academic skills.
Collaborate with parents, guardians, teachers, support staff and administrators to help address specific academic and social-emotional concerns.
Maintain confidentiality of students and their families unless there is a need to know or a safety concern.
Provide resources/support information to families in crisis.
Coordinate referrals to community agencies.
Thank you for your support as we work together.
Sincerely,
Marianna Hein
