Hello Rocky Point Families Hello Rocky Point Families

As we began to analyze all of our middle of year data, we are excited to celebrate that we met our school goal of 95% attendance for the month of January! Along with the celebration for attendance, we are also excited to see the academic growth of our students from beginning of year assessments to our middle of year assessments. There is still a lot of work to be done and growth to be made during this second semester, therefore we look forward to your continued communication and partnership with us!

Please remember that students are not in school this Friday, February 13th as there is a teacher workday for staff. We look forward to a great week of learning!

Our quote for the week in honor of CTE week and Black History Month: "Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others” by Booker T. Washington. Booker T. Washington was the founder of Tuskegee Institute and championed Career and Technical Education (CTE) as the essential path for Black economic progress, industrial skill, and self-reliance during the post-Reconstruction era. His philosophy focused on vocational training, dignified labor, and creating economic value to overcome racial prejudice.

  • Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night and that you are completing your child’s paper reading log each night.

The Pender County Schools Superbowl Reading Challenge began last week as the nation kicked off NFL Championship Weekend leading up to the Superbowl. Again, every thousand minutes logged by our school will equal one touchdown with 7 points. The school with the most touchdowns wins the game at the end of Superbowl Weekend, which will be at midnight on February 8, 2026. While we are continuing to log your child’s reading minutes as we have been doing all year, you may also do so by filling out the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge Google Form found here, RPE Million Minute Reading Challenge, and in Classlink of your child’s computer. The winning school will receive an ice cream party for students and a staff breakfast or luncheon. While we are out of school for inclement weather, this is a great opportunity to read while warming up after safely playing in the snow. Don’t forget to log your reading minutes." Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world." – Napoleon

Reassignment Application Request for 2026-2027 Reassignment Application Request for 2026-2027

In an effort to accommodate the educational preferences of families in the Pender County School District, officials have opened the reassignment request period for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. Parents who wish to enroll their students in a Pender County school outside of their designated zone, with the exception of Pender Early College and Pender Innovative Learning Academy, are encouraged to participate in the application process.

Due to schools in the Topsail and Surf City school districts being over capacity, no new applications will be accepted. Applications are being accepted now, allowing parents time to consider alternative educational options for their children. The deadline for submitting reassignment requests is February 28, 2026. Notification letters will go home on May 1st.

Collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Please begin collecting and sending in tabs from soda, food and pet food cans! Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
